RECENTLY, WE OPENED A FULL-SERVICE VIDEO STUDIO HERE AT MANOBYTE. Prior to doing so, we determined a need to identify and create a process to ensure we were taking care of our

legal responsibilities for fi lming and taking photographs while conducting our shoots.

Who knew you couldn’t just walk around and take pictures and shoot video of anything and everyone? As you

have probably fi gured out, it’s much more complicated than that. However, when we went on a search to fi nd

resources on how to do this properly, we came up a little empty. Thankfully, after input from our legal advisors

and recommendations from trusted industry colleagues, we were able to create some templates that serve as a

valuable resource for our fi lming and photography processes.

Because we like to share the love here at ManoByte, we want to save you some time and hassle by providing you

with this simple guide with all the release templates you will need for your video and photography purposes.

In this toolkit, you will receive release templates for the following release forms:

LOCATION RELEASE - A client signs this agreement to acknowledge the fact that a fi lm team is on their property

and is granting that team permission to fi lm.

MATERIAL RELEASE - This release protects against legal ramifi cations for utilizing any footage you may obtain as

well as granting its use in an edit.

DOOR NOTICE - This notice is placed on the entrance to the building or receptionist desk letting anyone know

that recording is happening and that by entering, they have given their permission to be on camera.

NOTICE OF FILMING ON LOCATION - Someone in charge of the location of fi lming signs this agreement stating

they are aware and allowing fi lming at the location. (Although similar to the location release, this form is intended

for your fi lm team to have available in the event someone else questions the permission to fi lm.)

PERSONAL RELEASE - This form is specifi c to anyone who is appearing on camera more than two times, usually

in the form of an interview. It grants permission to edit together what the subject says and does on camera.

In connection with the production, distribution and exploitation of the Production entitled

alter and amend the Footage in any manner and to juxtapose the Footage with any other 

material. This grant also includes the right to exploit the Video and/or the Footage throughout 

the world, in perpetuity and in any and all media now or hereafter devised without any further 

permission from me. The company has no obligation to use Footage in the Video.

result of accident or negligence on the part of [INSERT COMPANY NAME]. Should [INSERT 

COMPANY NAME] need to return to the premises or retakes for whatever reason, I agree to 

reasonably cooperate regarding the scheduling of such retakes, and I understand that such 

retakes shall be considered “Footage” and subject to the terms of this Agreement. 

 

I do hereby waive any rights I might have relating to use of the Premises as described herein, 

and I release and forever discharge [INSERT COMPANY NAME] of, from and against all 

actions, causes of action, claims, suits, judgements and demands by virtue of the appearance 

of the Premises, in any manner whatsoever, in the film. I warrant that I have the right to grant

Licensor hereby grants [INSERT COMPANY NAME] (“Producer”), its successors and assigns, 

the nonexclusive and irrevocable right to produce the licensed Material, to reproduce, record 

and edit the Licensed Material as desired on video, tape or other media (the “Recording”), and 

to use the Licensed Material, in whole or in part, in connection with the Video and all versions 

therefore and all materials relating thereto, including distribution, exploitation, advertising and 

promotion of such Video, worldwide, without compensation. Producer’s right includes the right 

to make editorial changes to all or part of the Video as deemed suitable to Producer in its sole 

discretion and utilize footage for marketing and social purposes. 

 

Licensor represents and warrants that Licensor possesses or has obtained all rights to the 

Licensed Material necessary for the grant of this License and that the rights granted hereunder 

will not conflict with or violate any commitment, agreement, or understanding Licensor has or 

will have to or with, nor infringe upon any rights of, any person or entity. Licensor shall pay and 

indemnify and hold Producer and its grantors, officers, directors, assignees, agents, licensees, 

and employees harmless from and against all claims, losses, costs, expenses, settlements, 

demands, and liabilities of every kind, including reasonable attorneys’ fees and expenses, 

arising out of or incurred by reason of the use of the Licensed Material set forth herein, and/or 

the inaccuracy, alleged breach of any representation, warranty, covenant, agreement, or 

undertaking Licensor has made herein.
