KANE HIBBERD When I'm photographing a portrait, if possible, I
like to try and portray the artist in a different light. Take them
out of their comfort zone and try to give the viewer a previously
unknown insight into the artist. Kane Hibberd (Savvides, L.
2010)

ANNIE LEIBOVITZ In a portrait, you have room to have a point of
view. The image may not be literally what's going on, but it's
representative. Annie Leibovitz (Habert, J. 2013)

SUBJECT MATTER Both have the person/people as the subject
matter Background and surroundings is just as important because it
is symbolic Leibovitz The glacier lagoon ties in with DiCaprios
environmental concerns. Hibberd The use of a gooey mixture gives
the viewer an ew feeling which ties in with the bands heavy metal
image.
Slide 42
COLOUR & SENSORY Both photographs have a dark feel &
have an easy division between foreground and background Leibovitz
Leo is dressed in dark colours whilst the background behind is cool
icy colours. Viewer can almost feel the icy cold feeling of the
glacier. Hibberd The white shirts makes them stand out to the
viewer. You can almost feel the stickiness in the photograph.
Slide 43
FOCAL POINT The people in the photographs The way the subjects
gaze. Leibovitz The environment around him is important. Leo is off
centre. Depth adds more perspective. Hibberd The gaze gives an
unsettling feeling. Balance as the band members are spread out.
Some sense of depth.
Slide 44
OVERALL May appear to be very different but they both
incorporate similar aspects into their work. Have a way of making
each shoot different. Captures the viewers attention Reveal aspects
about the subject Each shot is meaningful and has a story behind
it. Both taken particular advantage of contrast and the gaze that
the subject or subjects has.
