Front Cover

For the front cover I wanted to create an element of mystery to make the reader want to find out more. I did this through the facial expression of my model. I also used a medium close up to further emphasise the mystery and make him seem attractive and moody. To contrast this to make the magazine seem more warm and welcoming I have used the direct mode of address. I think all this will attract my audience as stereotypically the majority of successful male indie artists are quite mysterious and dark which is art of its mass appeal. This is what I tried to convey with these images.

Contents Page

For my contents page I wanted to have 2 or 3 really strong images that would really get the readers attention and make them want to read on. I have used a combination of long shots to emphasise the clothing they wear to immediately make the reader relate to the magazine and the artists. I used both the direct mode of address and the indirect mode of address to make the audience feel both welcome whilst also keeping an element of mystery.

Double Page Spread

I think these images reflect my target audience of indie music fans as the images come across as quite moody and mysterious. However I chose to use the direct mode of address as I wanted the magazine to seem inviting and make the gap seem smaller between receiver and producer. I chose to use a dark setting to make the artist seem more mysterious but also to reflect that my target audience spend a lot of time out on a night which may make them relate to the article more. The dark setting also emphasises the darkness which could be relevant to some members of my target audience since some of them suffer with depression. I also used the fast shutter speed technique to capture the light from the cars which relates to my audience as it illustrates how fast paced some of their lives are. Furthermore I contrasted the darkness of the setting with the light of the cars to create mise-en-scene.
