The two-day event included face-painting, tours of the Capital and a day of meetings on Capitol Hill. If you couldn't make it down to D.C. to join the fun, don't worry. Boston Children's Today has you covered. You Made The Walk Great! Thank you to everyone who supported the Eversource Walk for Boston Children's Hospital. On Sunday, June 14, more than 4,300 walkers gathered at DCR's Baxter Park at Assembly Row in Somerville and strolled the 2- or 7- mile course along the Mystic River while enjoying beautiful weather, food and family entertainment.     Two Boston Children's families recently travelled to Washington D.C. to represent the hospital at Family Advocacy Day, atwo-day event where patient families get the chance to meet with their Senators and Congressional Representatives tolobby on behalf of children's hospitals around the country. The two patients who traveled on Boston Children's behalf thisyear have complex conditions and a wealth of first-hand experience that decision-makers on Capitol Hill rely on tounderstand the impact of healthcare legislation.     Family Advocacy Day was the Ferreras' first trip to Washington, and they took the chance to see as much of the NationalMall as they could.

    It's not Family Advocacy Day without a party. Kate Pecora, was the second Boston Children's Hospital patient to travel toWashington along with her parents and her younger sister Caroline. Here, she gets a caricature at a party the night beforeshe visits Capitol Hill.

    Devyen and Beth Hawkins, RN, MSN, FNP, shoots some hoops at the party. Hawkins has been Deyven's nursepractitioner since he received an LVAD device and is usually the first person he calls with questions or care problems.

    Family Advocacy Day is also an opportunity for parents of children with complex and rare conditions to meet other parentsand caregivers in similar situations. Above, Deyven's mother Venus, talks with another mother about Deyven's LVAD andthe changes it has made in their lives.

    The second day of Family Advocacy Day takes place on Capitol Hill where families meet with their Senators andCongressional Representatives. Senator Whitehouse stepped out of a committee meeting to meet with Deyven and hisfamily. Deyven shared his story - including taking an AP exam while having symptoms of heart failure - and askedWhitehouse to support legislation beneficial for pediatric healthcare.

    Boston Children's Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-president of Health Affairs Kevin Churchwell, MD, was onhand to visit Capitol Hill alongside Deyven and Kate. Above, he is introduced to Senator Whitehouse.
