Introduction

©2019 The Literacy Collective

Sound Drill eCode uses a ditty and action to teach every emoji sound. This assists memory retention as well as bringing a fun and engaging element to learning. Once students know all the eCode sounds, fluency in word blending increases. Sound Drills occur daily in weeks 1 - 10 and then 3 times a week from week 11 - 40. Students who don’t know all sounds by week 30 require small group intervention.

Phonemic Awareness Drill Research has proven that the prerequisite to fast track reading success is phonemic awareness skills and a quality program that focus on this skill can assist accelerated literacy success. The Literacy Collective recommend that phonemic awareness drills are done twice a week, additional to a quality phonics program that embeds phonemic awareness into literacy activities.
