    Install handset battery Remove battery compartment cover by pressing on the indentation and sliding it downwards (only

    for 6043 and 6053).

    Align the two holes in the plug with the socket pins according to the color-coded label in thebattery compartment, then snap the plug nto place.

    Place the battery nto the compartment.

    Poston the battery compartment cover and slde t upwards untl t clcks nto place.

    Put the handset n the telephone base or the charger to charge the new battery for at least 16

    hours. The battery may have enough charge for short calls. For best performance, charge t for

    at least 16 hours.

    You can keep the battery charged by returnng the handset to the telephone base or charger after

    each use. When the battery power s fully depleted, a full rech arge takes about 16 hours.For further nformaton on batteres, please see theBattery secton on page 38.

    If the handset wll

    not be used for along perod of tme,remove the batteryto prevent possbleleakage.

    Desk/tble bcket instlltinThe telephone base comes wth the desk/table bracket nstalled and ready for tabletop use.

    Dil tpeIf you have touch-tone service, your telephone is ready to use as soon as the battery is charged. If

    you have pulse (rotary) service, the dial type must be changed. To change the dial type, see

    Dil tpe on page 12.

    To remove the bracket:

    1. Push the bracket away from the telephone

    base as shown below. Do not remove the

    bracket by force to avod breakage of

    the tabs.

    To nstall the bracket:

    1. Algn the tabs of the bracket wth the slots

    at the bottom of the telephone base as

    shown n the dagram.

    2. Slde the bracket towards the center

    you are experencng nterference durng telephone conversatons and/or your caller ID features are

    not functioning properly, install a DSL lter to the telephone line between the telephone base andthe telephone wall jack. Contact your DSL provider for a DSL lter.

    the VoICEMaIL light on the telephone base will ash when you have

    Dal the number.After hangng up, the telephone automatcally returns to pulse dal

    servce.

    Use the keypad to select a destnaton handset. The screen of theorgnatng handset dsplays CaLLINg HaNDSET X.

    Press /FLaSH, or any dialing keys (0-9, * or #) on the destination

    handset to answer the call.

    To end an ntercom call, press oFF/CLEar on the handset or by placng

    the handset back on the telephone base or charger.

    Multiple hndset useWhle on a call, the person on the other handset can jon the conversaton.

    Press /FLaSH or to jon the conversaton. (Only two handsets can

    join the conference conversation at the same time.)

    Press oFF/CLEar, or place the handset n the telephone base or charger

    to drop out of the call. The external call wll not be termnated untl both
