Sept. 17 - Slippery Rock VillageFest 17
The Village at Slippery Rock will hold its 3rd annual community celebration, VillageFest. The event features children’s activities, live entertainment, crafters and vendors. New this year is special children’s activities and entertainment at the new gazebo. Slippery Rock VillageFest is FREE and open to the public. Ample free parking is availabl e. Main Street will be closed from 10 AM - 4 PM during the festivities.

5 Sept. 5, 12, 19, 26: Dead Fish Polo. 4 PM-sunset. Western PA Paddlesport Association will hold this event every Monday night. This event will take place in the McDanel’s area of the Lake Arthur. This sport combines elements of dodgeball and water polo with canoeing. Fortunately, the sport has been refined to the point where paddlers now use sponges instead of fish.
6 Sept. 7, 14: History Walks of Butler’s South Side. David Allen, history researcher and Butler County Historical Society volunteer, will conduct guided tours of the historical area of Butler formerly called Springdale from 1840 until 1940. Walks begin at the intersection of E.Cunningham St. and S. Monroe St. at 6 PM, weather permitting. For more information, call: 724-283-8116.
7 Sept. 10 & 11: 20th Annual Saxonburg Festival of the Arts! A culturally enriched weekend of art appreciation & education presented by the Saxonburg Historical and Restoration Commission. 9 Sept. 10 & 11: Muddy Creek Oil Well Exhibit. Demonstration days at the Muddy Creek Oil Field site in Moraine State Park, Old 422 Boat Launch Area. The antique oil well restoration project was recently awarded the Historic Harmony Heritage Award. Access to the well site can be obtained by taking Old Route 422 west from the Prospect interchange and proceeding about one-half mile beyond the DCNR District Office and boat launch area parking lot. 12 Sept. 16-18: Quilt Show at Harmony Museum. Quilters, quilt collectors and the Harmony Museum will display dozens of antique and contemporary quilts in a special show Fri. evening, Sat. and Sun., Sept. 16-18. The museum is at the center of Harmony’s National Historic Landmark District, on the diamond at Main and Mercer streets. Hours: 5-7 PM Fri., Sept. 16; 10 AM- 5 PM. Sat., Sept. 17; and 1-5 PM Sun., Sept. 18. Admission: $3, including one raffle ticket for Sun. afternoon’s drawing for a hand-sewn quilt. Salad lunch will be available on Saturday.

19 Sept. 17: Rockapella at SRU. An a cappella group, Rockapella blends soul, rock, rhythm and blues, and jazz. They are the house band for “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego,” and have appeared on the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and are featured in several television commercials. This concert corresponds with SRU’s Family and Friends Day. ING Performing Arts Series- 7:30 PM in SRU’s Miller Auditorium. For more information: call 738-724-2091. Admission charged.
20 Sept. 18: Slippery Rock Heritage Days. 9 AM-5 PM. Festival held on the quad of SRU featuring music, car and big truck shows, entertainment, food and craft and flea market items. This year we will be adding a display of pictures and other memorabilia honoring Slippery Rock. 724-794-2007
21 Sept. 18: Family Fishing Clinic at Moraine. Join the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission on Sun., Sept. 18, 2005 from 9 AM - 12 noon at McDanel`s Launch on the North Shore to experience the SMART start to fishing for FREE! The Family Fishing Clinic is designed to provide instruction to youth and adults alike, on the species of fish found in Pennsylvania, fish habitats, safety, equipment, outdoor manners and how to protect our water resources. Parents, guardians, mentors and other family members are encouraged to participate in the learning. Participants learn the basics of fishing and get to put their skills to use! 26 Sept. 25: Alameda Fall Fest, Fishing Tourney & Carnival. Games, crafts, clowns. Pony rides, petting zoo, car cruise, Youth Fishing Tournament (with live fish in Alameda Pool!). Fishing Tournament for three age groups at different times. Each age group will fish for an hour and 45 minutes. Car Cruise brought to you by the Butler Pentastars Car Club. 27 Sept. 23-25, 30: Cheeseman’s Pumpkin Festival. Every weekend through Oct. Daytime activities include crawl through hay tunnels, pet and feed the farm animals and run through the hay maze. Bring your camera and your flashlight! Daytime hayrides to our pumpkin patch (weekends only). This is a non-scary hayride for children and adults!
