One major project in the off season is inspecting our aircraft along with various maintenance items required. This is a very intensive inspection to ensure top mechanical conditions of the aircraft.

PILOT FLIGHT TRAINING AND PRACTICEThe off season gives us the opportunity to accomplish our required flight training so once the spray season arrives, we are able to jump into our planes with the confidence of piloting these aircraft safely and efficiently in your fields.

ATTEND CONFERENCESWe attend conferences for the professional organizations we are members of:• Alberta Aerial Applicator’s Association ( AAAA) www. albertaaerialapplicators.com

• Canadian Aerial Applicator’s Association (CAAA) www.canadianaerialapplicators.com

• Western Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s Association (WAMEA) www.wamea.com

These conferences allow us to attend a number of continuing education courses and seminars required to keep our various certifications, gives us the opportunity to meet with representatives from Transport Canada (TC), Health Canada Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA), Alberta Environment to talk about concerns and provide input on decision making of the various Regulations or changes to them. CLOSING THE GAP BETWEEN URBAN CONSUMERS AND THE FARMER BEFORE THE PLATE

The documentary, which premiered in the summer of 2018 in Toronto, is one of the most balanced food and farming films we’ve ever watched. It follows the journey of a chef, John Horne, as he explores the source of 10 ingredients for an appetizing dish served in his restaurant. From indoor to outdoor farming, genetically engineered seeds and organic production, Before the Plate is a diverse view into what modern farming is all about.

RE-ENTRY, PRE-HARVEST,PPE & DELIVERYPlease ensure you know when its safe to enter your field after any application. Read the product labels for Re-entry interval, Pre-harvest intervals, what Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and other important safety information.

All of the agriculture retailers of crop protection products in our area will deliver to our hangars. This is a very useful service which saves time for our growers. Thank you to our Ag Retailers for this valuable service!

We are very pleased to announceQuikway Air Services replaced our AT 502B with a brand new AT-502 XP complete with the latest technology in the engine and propeller performance along with a higher efficiency in operations and safety. The one thing you will notice about this aircraft as it works your fields is that the noise factor is greatly reduced.

TAKE OFF WITH A FULL 500 GALLONSAll day. Every day.

MORE POWER TO YOU

The world’s favorite 500-gallon ag plane has gone one better. The Air Tractor 502XP has the Xtra Power to haul a full load even on the hottest days. It’s a productive balance of a modern airframe and engine—providing speed, capacity, and productivity in high, hot conditions. The 502XP can help you finish more acres in less time, with less effort.

Driving that performance is the Pratt & Whitney PT6A-140AG turboshaft engine. It has 867 horsepower available for takeoff. That’s 117 more horses than the AT-502B. Providing 20 percent more thermal dynamic performance, and five percent better specific fuel consumption, the -140AG is an investment in the latest turbine engine design, materials and technology.

The power is yours. Use it to your advantage.

Annually we have our aircraft calibrations completed to ensure our aerial application equipment is working properly and providing the best in environmental professionalism. Recently, Chad and Garry Moffat of Specialized Spray Systems, Lethbridge, AB travelIed to our hangars to conduct the calibrations. Our nozzles are calibrated for op-timum droplet size and spray pat-tern conducive to aerial spraying. Specialized Spray Systems ensure our nozzles and settings are to the best standards! We look forward to working with Chad and Garry each year !

DRONES ¡ Currently Drones are not legal to use for aerial

application and spraying

¡ There are no products registered for spraying with drones in Canada

¡ Field mapping and crop scouting within line of sight are allowed with drones

¡ It is very important to avoid aircraft traffic when flying any drones

¡ Registration, Licencing and training is required by Transport Canada for drone operators

¡ ADS-B in and out technology for drones and aircraft will probably be mandated in the future. It allows for enhanced traffic avoidance and situational awareness.

See Transport Canada Website - Flying Your Drone Safely & Legally

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT . .

SCENIC FLIGHTS Due to the recent COVID 19 pandemic and restrictions put in place, we are not flying any scenic flights, but gift certificates are still available for future use. We are optimistic that we may be able to provide the scenic flights later on this summer and fall !

WHAT IS ADS-B? ADS-B stands for Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast. The system is “automatic “in that it requires no pilot or external input, or in-terrogation from an ATC (Air Traffic Control) radar to send information; is “dependent” because it depends on data from the aircraft’s navigation system; and “broadcasts” because it transmits the information available to anyone with the appropriate receiving equipment. ADS-B systems are able to track objects equipped with the same technology and come in two forms for aircraft: ADS-B Out and ADS-B in.ADS-B Out automatically transmits critical position information once per second. Transmitted information includes aircraft direction, altitude and velocity to air traffic controllers (via a terrestrial-based network of ground stations) and other nearby aircraft (via air to air transmission). The “Out” solely transmits data to air traffic control and aircraft but doesn’t allow the pilot to observe other aircraft. ADS-B In provides traffic information, known as Traffic Information Ser-vice – Broadcast(TIS-B), as well as weather, TFR and other information known as Flight Information Service – Broadcast(FIS-B), ADS-B”In” al-lows the pilot to view the same data ATC can see. This technology will allow a greater level of safety and greatly help pre-vent mid air collisions.
