Dear Parents and Carers, Pentecost Reflection: Last Sunday was the feast of Pentecost. On this day we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and how the apostles were changed from frightened people who had locked themselves in a room to people who went out and boldly proclaimed the Good News of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is active in our lives as well and we need to be open to when the Spirit is calling us through the people and events in our lives. Like the apostles we to lock ourselves up in our own room of fear and complacency. Pentecost calls us to be open and aware of the Holy Spirit moving in and influ-encing our lives. Like the apostles, when we are open to the Holy Spirit we are enabled by that same Spirit to achieve great things in our lives. Father Peter’s Birthday On Sunday 3rd June all are invited to celebrate Father Peter’s 75th birthday. There will be Mass at 9am followed by a morning tea. Please come along and bring a plate to share for morning tea and join Father Peter in celebrating this great event in his life. Please note that there will be no Mass at Dayboro on this Sunday and that the Sunday morning Mass will begin at 9am and not the usual 8am time. Year of Grace From Pentecost Sunday (last Sunday) until Pentecost Sunday next year the Australian Bishops have declared this a Year of Grace. This is a time for the Church in Australia to rediscover what it means to encounter Christ in our country and context today. Grace can be defines as the life or presence of God in each of us and in our world. This year of grace invites us to celebrate the presence of God in us and to rediscover the treasures of our Faith and renew and renew and recommit ourselves to the living out of this Faith in our world today. Below is the official prayer for the Year of Grace. Patron’s Day – Thursday 24th May Last Thursday we had a great celebration for Patron’s Day. The children were involved in many activities to deepen their knowledge of Mary, our school and Uganda. During our festive Mass the children listened to our past Principal – John Brady speak about our sister school in Uganda. The children also listened to reflections from Father Peter and Rosemary Bravo (read by Jan Wilson) about what it means to be part of Our Lady of the Way Parish. The market day (mission fair) raised over $900 for St Bruno’s Uganda. At the end of the day classes presented some aspect of their learning from the day to the rest of the school community at an assembly. My thanks to everyone, for their great support of the day. Below are some photos of the day

Prayer for the year of Grace Gracious God, You have blessed this ancient land with many gifts, especially its people. We thank you for the Year of Grace, a time to start afresh from Christ. You invite us to contemplate the face of Jesus your Son, that we may experience a new wave of grace, and that the light of Christ may burn more brightly in our lives. Attune our hearts and minds to the presence of your Holy Spirit, that our Church may be transformed, our relationships be healed, and our nation grow in compassion and justice. With the intercession of St Mary MacKillop, who showed us new ways of living the Gospel, we make our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen. Mary, Help of Christians, pray for us.

Scripture: No one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord’ unless he is under the influence of the Holy Spirit. There is a variety of gifts but always the same Spirit; there are all sorts of service to be done, but always to the same Lord; working in all sorts of different ways in different people, it is the same God who is working in all of them. The particular way in which the Spirit is given to each person is for a good purpose. Just as a human body, though it is made up of many parts, is a single unit because all these parts, though many, make one body, so it is with Christ. In the one Spirit we were all baptised, Jews as well as Greeks, slaves as well as citizens, and one Spirit was given to us all to drink. (1 Corinthians 12:3-7. 12-13)

LIBRARY NEWS WK7 Year 4 are practising writing descriptions after looking at a photograph. This was written by Maddy in 4F The Rainforest The rainforest is a lovely calm place where animals live. It has lots of thick trees with moss on them. The moss is green and slimy. Some old trees have fallen into a creek. A waterfall keeps the water flowing. It is noisy but refreshing. There is soft white sand. The water is an orangey colour from the sun and the sand. Sometimes there are lily pads. The trunks of the trees are dark chocolate brown with minty green leaves. You can hear bugs and birds everywhere you turn so it is really noisy. It is shady and damp and very

peaceful.

Junior School Choir Thank you to all the children who attended our first practise session. It was an overwhelming

response with 50 children attending. Their biggest question was “When are we going on stage?” After lots of

practice and training our voices. The children started off by learning breath control. Some students were given the

opportunity to sustain one breath by making a pinwheel turn for as long as possible. Following this, the children

listened to successive notes played on a piano, using the sequence of 1; 1,2,1; 1,2,3,2,1, etc.; all the way up to 8

completing the octave. We finished the session with the children again listening to and joining in singing on one

note encouraging them to open their mouths to produce clear vowel sounds: nee, nay, nah, no, noo.

Happy singing,

Mrs Bone.
