It is important to establish the home school links at the beginning of the year. As part of our beginning of the year all classroom teachers try to contact the parents of the children they teach. Community of Schools: Napier Intermediate is one of 8 schools who have taken up the Ministry of Education initiative of Investing in Educational Success. We are at the early stages of this initiative and I will keep you posted of what this will mean for Napier Intermediate. Bullying: At the beginning of the year there is always a settling in period and I regularly talk to the whole school about the perennial issue of bullying, physical contact, name calling and swearing. Usually the first we hear about such issues is through parents. Do not hesitate to contact us at school if your child has seen anyone bullied or been bullied. It is well worth having a discussion with your child about exactly what is bullying. No one should have to put up with inappropriate behaviour. Home Learning: The other beginning of the year issue is always homework or as we are calling it home learning. Often if asked students will say they have no homework. At Napier Intermediate all students will have home learning and if your child is saying they have no home learning please contact the class teacher. Message from the Principal On Tuesday last week we had our Meet the Teachers evening. It was wonderful to see so many parents along

at school. The Meet the Teacher is only one opportunity for you to find out what is happening for your child

while at Napier Intermediate. If you were unable to attend because of other commitments, please take a few

minutes to contact your child’s teacher either by phone or through your child’s logbook. It is important to

establish the home school links at the beginning of the year. As part of our beginning of the year all classroom

teachers try to contact the parents of the children they teach.

Community of Schools: Napier Intermediate is one of 8 schools who have taken up the Ministry of Education

initiative of Investing in Educational Success. We are working alongside of our local contributing schools,

Eskdale and Napier Girls High, Napier Boys High and Sacred Heart to identify achievement challenges for

students across our primary, intermediate and secondary schools. We are at the early stages of this initiative

and I will keep you posted of what this will mean for Napier Intermediate.

Bullying: At the beginning of the year there is always a settling in period and I regularly talk to the whole

school about the perennial issue of bullying, physical contact, name calling and swearing. Usually the first we

hear about such issues is through parents. Do not hesitate to contact us at school if your child has seen

anyone bullied or been bullied. It is well worth having a discussion with your child about exactly what is

bullying. No one should have to put up with inappropriate behaviour.

Home Learning: The other beginning of the year issue is always homework or as we are calling it home

learning. Often if asked students will say they have no homework. At Napier Intermediate all students will have

home learning and if your child is saying they have no home learning please contact the class teacher.

Complaints policy: We do have a complaints policy that we will make available to anyone on request but the following is a flowchart of the process.

Non Uniform Day

Friday 20th February

We would appreciate support from adults who drop off and pick up their children before and after school

because we are very concerned about the safety for our students, particularly after school, at 3pm.

We would appreciate your support to back up the message we are giving students by encouraging them to

use our patrolled crossing and not crossing Jull Street in any other place. Where applicable, the zebra

crossings on Kennedy Road and beyond the railway tracks on Thackeray Street should also be used.

A suggestion would be to pre-arrange a pickup point so that they know where you will be before they leave

school as parking on yellow lines or in bus stops is both illegal and dangerous because vision is restricted for

other drivers and pedestrians. Please help us to keep our children safe.

ICAS COMPETITIONS 2015 Napier Intermediate children have the opportunity

to participate in the 2015 ICAS Competitions. The

competitions comprise a selection of multiple

choice items in Digital Technologies (formally

Computer Skills), Science, Spelling, Writing, English

and Mathematics.

The closing date for getting entries and fees

in to the school office is Monday 23rd March.

Please see the school website for a

letter explaining the competitions and an entry

form. Hard copies of the letter are available from

the school office.

Reminder to parents

If a phone is confiscated by a teacher it is sent to the office and parents are asked to come and pick it up from me. I will return it straight away the first time. The second time it is confiscated it will be held for a week and the third time we will ask them not to bring it to school at all.

ZONE IN Home Learning Group “Zone In” is an after school support programme designed to be used as a home learning centre where students can do their homework/home learning tasks. Library resources and computers will be available for all “Zone In” students to access. “Zone In” will be held every Tuesday and Thursday this term. Students will meet in the library when the school bell rings. All “Zone In“ students will need to be in the library by 3:00. Sandy Grantham, Lou Taylor and other volunteer teachers will help supervise “Zone In.”

“Zone In” hours will be 3:00 to 4:00. Students attending “Zone In” will need to be present for the whole

hour. If home learning tasks are finished early students will be able to spend their time reading or researching.
