THE PROPERTY: BRIDGE ROAD, SUTTON BRIDGE, PE12 9SH. ASKING PRICE: £174,950.

4 Bedroom detached Georgian house situated on the outskirts of Sutton Bridge with field views, lounge with study area, dining room, kitchen, bath/shower room, outbuilding offering garage potential plus utility, off road parking, upvc double glazed windows, gas central heating & small enclosed garden. The property also retains some character features such as fireplaces, decorative coving & ceiling roses. Internal viewing essential to appreciate correctly!

The sellers of this property have owned it since 1999 having been bought as a project to renovate and make into the family home - with the now adult children growing up there. They were attracted to the property as they liked the idea that the garage offered the potential for alternative use – having used it as a family room/bar for entertaining. The sellers advise they love the rural views that the property offers and although on the main road through the village being situated on the outskirts they feel the property gives them the best of both worlds. The sellers are now looking to downsize to a smaller property and intend to stay in the local area.

ACCOMMODATION: Hallway, lounge with study area, dining room, kitchen, rear lobby/sun room, landing, 4 bedrooms, bath/shower room, outbuilding offering garage potential plus utility, small enclosed rear garden, driveway giving off road parking for several vehicles. SERVICES: All mains services (water, drainage, gas & electricity). South Holland District Council tax band: C. EPC rating: E.

ABOUT US: Chairman Mr. Tim Machin With a local presence of nearly 50 years, the Society exists to promote high standards of planning and architecture; promote civic pride; secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of historic structures or features and promote understanding of the geography, history, natural history and architecture of the area. As a registered charity, we cover the south east corner of Lincolnshire covering the communities of Long Sutton, Little Sutton, Sutton Bridge, Wingland, Tydd St. Mary, Sutton St. James, Gedney Broadgate, Gedney, Gedney Dyke, Gedney Drove End, Dawsmere, and Lutton. The Society meets every 3rd Monday of the month at the Market House in Long Sutton at 7.15 pm. With varying speakers and occasional outings, for further information call 01406 362310 or email [email protected] THE (GREAT) FIRE OF LONG SUTTON Fires in closely packed timber and thatch buildings must have been commonplace and there are two recorded ‘great fires’ in Long Sutton, one in 1867 when five cottages in Market Place were destroyed and a bigger fire on August 3

rd 1885, on

Market Street. It started in a grocery and drapery shop. The shop was shut and alarmed onlookers got into the rear of the building to discover the entire shop floor on fire. The fire spread to surround buildings, taking hold of adjoining shops and ‘illuminating the town with its light and heat’. A nearby butchers shop, pub and seed store were soon ablaze. The town’s fire engine and a private hand engine fought the fire and a telegram was sent to Sutton Bridge for their engine to attend. 50 yards from the centre of the fire a thatched workshop caught fire and embers from collapsing buildings landed up to one and a half miles away. At least 8 buildings were involved and the cost of the fire in buildings and stock about £8,000. (well over a million pounds at today’s prices) There are very few photographs of the town from this period as photography was in its infancy, but many of the older buildings would have been thatched and two big fires in 18 years were probably the catalyst for owners to re-roof. At least two buildings on Market Place, Pledgers electrical shop and Palmers Ale House and kitchen, are known to have been thatched as some of the reeds have been found in place under the tiled roof covering. This prompted the owners of Palmers’, our newest treasure in Long Sutton to restore its original covering. Over the past century it has been a butchers, coal merchants, restaurant, wine bar, pub and now eatery and hotel.

The summer holidays will so be upon us! Not that you can tell with the ever changeable weather we’ve been having of late. Don’t know about you but I would like some sunnier weather which has got me thinking about a nice sunny destination. So if I’ve got you thinking about a holiday now I doubt you’ve thought about insurance for it. Don’t worry if you haven’t help is at hand we can provide holiday insurance for all (subject to criteria) from group bookings to single trips, long stay and annual policies with varying levels of cover to suit you with many sport activities covered as standard (subject to policy wording). We can cover from Europe, Worldwide including and excluding USA, Canada, Caribbean.

Lots of people don’t think about arranging insurance whilst booking their holiday and wait until just before there trip but if you take it out when you book then if the worst happens, and you needed to cancel then you would be covered (subject to policy wording). If you have any medical conditions this can also be taken into consideration and in most cases can be covered (subject to policy wording). An emergency abroad can be extremely expensive. If you needed to be returned to the UK it can cost thousands of pounds unless you are adequately insured. Did you know that NHS assistance doesn’t apply to the Channel Islands so you would need insurance if you are planning a trip there. Word of warning if you’re a skier or planning a skiing holiday – avoid a lunchtime tipple if you have an accident and there is alcohol in your bloodstream your policy will be invalid. Please call today for your premium. Don’t arrange your holiday without it: Jane, Kat or Liz are waiting to take your call on 0800 308 1140.

Coversure the cover you want, the service you expect, the advice you need.

July is the month for Roses. In our flower beds we have several Rose bushes and the flowers are looking beautiful despite needing some TLC to improve them. Any Rose growers out there, we would love to meet you.

Some new plants have been planted out in the “Community Garden” some to replace those we lost over the winter. All our beds are receiving attention on a regular basis we cannot stand back and admire just yet.

Containers are all planted up with summer flowering plants, the geraniums are showing some flowers, and we are working to equal or surpass last years display. We would like to thank the businesses who are watering “their plants”. Tubs and containers not outside businesses are being watered by the volunteers, if you see somebody with a watering can do stop and chat, perhaps, if you can spare a few hours now and then you could join us.

Lastly, enjoy the display we are producing for people in Sutton Bridge.
