Philosophy of Science specifically about the scope and function.

Scope means area or field of philosophy of science.

The scope of philosophy of science includes all sciences.

Functions of philosophy of science are different among the philosophers.

Determine or compile which of them is suit to certain goal.

ScopeAccording to The Liang Gie (2010: 65), the field

of philosophy of science being discussed by philosophers will be presented briefly.

Peter Angeles He said that the scope of philosophy of science

includes study about concept, presupposition, analysis, expansion and the arrangement to gain definite knowledge; study and verify about reasoning process in science and its developmental structure; study about science relation; study toward consequences of scientific knowledge, relation of logic/mathematic and reality, source and validity of knowledge, fundamental characteristic of humanity.

Cornelius Benjamin Benjamin divided scope of philosophy of

science into three. First is study about scientific method, scientific

symbol, logical structure of scientific symbol/logic system, knowledge theory, common sense theory on sign.

Second is explanation on basic concept, presupposition, foundation of empirical knowledge (empirical, reasoning, pragmatic base) in relation to metaphysic.

Third is study on relation of different knowledge and its implication toward universe theory (idealism, materialism, pluralism).

Marx Wartofsky: He said that the scope of inter-

discipline in philosophy of science covers two fields.

First is reflection about basic concept, formal structure and knowledge method.

Second is philosophy of epistemology which combines analytic device of modern logic and conceptual model of scientific study.

Ernest Nagel: On the basis of his study he

divided the scope of philosophy of science into three.

They are logical rule in explaining knowledge, proven in scientific concept.
