Ph.D. Position in Surface Reaction Dynamics
Adoctoralpositionisavailableasof1.9.2020intheEPFLSurfaceDynamicsGroup(Prof. R. Beck). We use state-of-the-art laser techniques to probe chemicalreactions at the gas-surface interface by quantum-state-resolvedmeasurements.Our researchexplores surface reactionsused inheterogeneous catalysis suchasthe dissociative chemisorption of methane on a nickel surface which is ratelimitingintheconversionofnaturalgastohydrogen.Ourexperimentsprobethedynamicsofelementarychemicaleventsatthegas/surfaceinterfaceandproducedetailed state resolved data for comparison with first principles theory.Forfurtherdetailssee:http://ggsd.epfl.ch/

We are looking for a highly motivated and experimentally talentedphysicalchemist or physicist possibly with experience in laser spectroscopy,ultra-high vacuum surface science experiments, and/or computer interfacing.Knowledgeofthe French language is not a prerequisite for pursuing a Ph.D. atEPFL but good knowledge of spoken and written English is essential.
