Following the highly successful project to supply HS2 Limited with furniture for their One Canada Square offices, Flexiform were selected via a competitive tender process to supply the furniture for the new HS2 Snow Hill offices in Birmingham.

Working closely with the same client project team that we worked with at Canada Square (and with Mace on the design and project management), Flexiform delivered a full interior furniture package for over 1,000 staff located in Birmingham.

Using reflective learning from the earlier project, a slightly revised furniture specification was created, incorporating the slightly differing needs of the Snow Hill space while also mirroring the look and feel of the Canary Wharf offices. This ensured that the corporate branding of the space was maintained, while also maximising the efficiency and effectiveness of the new building.

Analysis of the Canada Square offices revealed an increased need for small collaboration spaces, but Snow Hill has less enclosed meeting spaces. Flexiform therefore provided a number of meeting

and breakout “pods” – IT-equipped spaces that can be used for one-to-one meetings, small meetings and presentations, solo work, and an ideal space for ad-hoc discussions of any kind.

The formal meeting rooms are highly flexible, with mobile and folding tables allowing these rooms to be utilised in a number of ways, reflecting the agile nature of the open plan workplaces. The use of USB charge points on all workstations is designed to accommodate mobile technology much more effectively, providing agile, flexible working.

Personal lockers remove the need for pedestals at the workstation, while ensuring that all staff have a safe, private storage space. This again helps to reinforce the flexibility in the office, but also saves money on the overall scheme. Combination locks also eliminate issues with key management.

The project was installed over four phases, with all deliveries taking place at the weekend and installation being completed during the week.

Pico DesksHS2 selected Pico back-to-back desking, with scalloped desks to allow for cables to feed below.

Additions 2 TablesTables from our Additions 2 range were provided in poseur height, for use as meeting tables. HS2 selected all-white tables, but the A2 and A3 legs are also available in chrome.

LockersHS2 selected the same lockers for Snow Hill as at Canada Square, but this time Flexiform also provided six and eight-door lockers to break up space, and create corridors.

Breakout SeatingWe delivered a range of breakout seating, provided by a number of our suppliers. Each pod featured a built in display screen for ad-hoc presenting. These were supplied in blue, to match the selected colour scheme.

Additions Pedestal TableAdditions Pedestal tables can be provided with cable management. Ideal as a meeting or breakout table, and available in various heights: 450mm, 740mm and 1050mm. HS2 selected all-white tables.

Flip-Top TablesReconfigurable flip-top tables are installed with power and data, us-ing a slinky to connect desk power to floor grommet.
