Designed for Pharmaceutical and Biotech ApplicationsThe AAF PharmaGel HEPA filter ceiling module is ideal for applications requiring an easily replaceable HEPA filter cartridgewithout risk of bypass leakage. An AAF gel sealant pocket ensuresairtight integrity at the filter to module seal.The PharmaGel module was designed with the pharmaceutical andbiotech industries in mind. Filter cartridges can be tested and replacedwithout disturbing the module housing. The removable stainless steelperforated grill allows easy wipe down of the modules to prevent crosscontamination of the product. Stainless steel trim is also available.Welded Aluminum HousingThe airtight housing is constructed of sturdy (0.063) aluminum. Joints and seams are welded and sealed.Vertical or Horizontal AirflowPharmaGel modules can be used for vertical or horizontal airflowapplications. Horizontal flow must be specified when the modules are ordered to include bottom-edge filter supports.Designed for Tee Grid or Plaster CeilingEach housing includes an integral aluminum flange on the downstreamside, for use with a conventional T-bar grid system. Optional stainlesssteel trim is available for mounting in a plaster ceiling.Stainless Steel Perforated GrillThe flush-mounted protective grill is constructed of 22-gauge stainlesssteel with a perforated design and 40% open area. Four stainless steelwashers and acorn nuts hold the grill in place.Adjustable Butterfly DamperThe round top inlet, 10" standard, is designed with a butterfly damper conveniently operated from the downstream, or room side,using a rotary-type mechanism. A perforated diffuser plate beneath the damper promotes even distribution of air across the filter.High EfficiencyThe AstroCel® II, 2 7/8" HEPA filter, featuring a 2" deep pack and mini-pleat design, provides the lowest pressure drop in the industrywith optimum air cleaning efficiency. Filters with 3" and 4" deep packsare also available.Easy TestingA static pressure port adjacent to the installed filter cartridge isprovided for easy measurement of the resistance across the filter, or to serve as an upstream aerosol sample test port.

Gel Seal Prevents Bypass LeakageGel Seal Forms Airtight SealAstroCel II filter cartridges designed for PharmaGel moduleseach include a pocket of AAF gelsealant around the perimeter of the filter on the downstream side.When the filter is installed, a knifeedge on all four sides of thehousing penetrates the channel of gel to form an airtight seal. With the gel sealant pocket located on the downstream side of the housing, there is no dead air space commonly found incompetitive products that seal on the upstream side.Sturdy Retainers Protect the FilterThe filter cartridge is held in thehousing by four retainers, eachlocated on a threaded stud, which also support the protectivegrill. To replace the filter cartridge, the retainers are simply turned 90degrees. The filter retainer studs are designed to avoid penetrationsthrough the knife edge frame, and eliminate potential leak paths. The retainer mechanism is also designed to prevent the knife edge from bottoming out in the gel track.

AAF gel sealant in a pocket along theperimeter of the AstroCel ® II filtercartridge forms an airtight seal.

The filter support retainers turn 90degrees for filter cartridge replacement.

Filter SelectionsThe PharmaGel module includes an AAF AstroCel II LPD 2 7/8" mini-pleat HEPA filter with a 2" media pack that provides 99.99% minimumefficiency. A laser-tested ULPA filter providing 99.9995% efficiency at0.12µm is also available. AAF filters are scanned for pinhole leaksbefore shipping to ensure trouble-free installation. AstroCel II 3" and 4" filters are also available for extra-depth housings.

Options• Modules are available with

hanging tabs on the top fourcorners of the housing.

• Permanent stainless steelperimeter trim (shown below) isavailable for drywall installationor applications requiring 100%stainless steel housing materialon the room side of the filter.The factory-installed 18-gaugewelded trim consists of a one-piece perimeter flange on thedownstream side of thehousing, including the knifeedge that seals the filter intothe module.

• An extra wide, 11/2", stainlessperimeter flange provides anattractive finished appearancein plaster or gypsum ceilings.

DamperThe PharmaGel module standard top inlet has a 10" diameter collar. A 12" diameter collar is also available. Both inlets include a butterfly-type damper. Damper adjustment and air sampling is from the roomside of the module through access ports at the end of the module.

• Removable stainless steelperimeter trim (shown below)is available for applicationswhere the module is mountedin a plaster or gypsum ceiling.

• Fiberglass insulation, 2" thick,with aluminum foil backing isavailable to cover the exteriorof the module to limitcondensation. The insulationhas a rating of 25 flamespread, and 50 smokedeveloped, when tested inaccordance with ASTM E-84,and UL-723.

• A fixed perforated diffuserplate can be supplied in placeof the adjustable butterflydamper, provided there aredampers already mountedin the ductwork upstream of the module.

• Extended-height PharmaGelmodule housings are availablefor deep pleat (4" deep pack)AstroCel II filters, or for sideinlets.

• Deep-pack AstroCel II HEPAfilters for extended heighthousings are available in 3"and 4" deep packs to providelonger life and lower pressuredrop than competitive designs.

• An extended stainless steelgrill protruding 2" below thehousing is available forimproved distribution of cleanair into the room.

• AstroCel II ULPA filters99.9995% efficient on 0.1 to0.2 micron size particles areavailable in 2", 3", and 4"deep packs.

• Aerosol distribution tubes areused for room-side injectionand uniform distribution of the challenge aerosol in themodule for leak testing. The aerosol is introduced onthe downstream side of themodule through a plugged 1/2"pipe coupling penetrating theinternal flange of the housing.The challenge aerosol isdispersed through aperforated horseshoe-shapeddevice located on the upstreamside of the distribution plate inthe top of the module.

Riveted to the aluminum housing at thefactory, the permanent stainless steelperimeter trim provides a very attractivefinish in the ceiling.

The welded stainless steel angleperimeter trim is inserted and riveted tothe module after installation.

Aerosol distribution tubes are ideal forapplications with limited access to fansor ductwork upstream of the filtermodules.
