ACADEMIC YEAR - 2005-2006.
PART A
Our college undertook maximum activities for the upliftment of the academic and
administrative standard. However the IQAC has chalked out following action plan for The
Academic Year 2005-06. The IQAC has the objectives for enhancing the academic and other
qualities of the college:
Plans for Academic Activities:
1. To initiate new academic programmes for Commerce, Arts and Science students.
2. Motivate the teachers for innovation in curricular design.
3. To introduce Interdisciplinary Programmes.
4. To organize state level Seminars / Workshops.
5. To motivate the teachers for undertaking research projects.
6. To attempt for setting the assistance / registration of organization such as
SAP/COSIST/DST, FIST etc.
7. To organize camps /lectures for community service.
8. To appoint required teaching/non-teaching staff.
9. To improve Library services and purchase necessary reading material.
10. To undertake the students’ assessment of teachers by oral/questionnaire methods.
11. To update the computer facilities in the administrative section and other departments.
12. To provide computer and internet facilities to the students.
13. To provide the financial aid to the students who are needy and eligible.
14. To organize the meeting of the Alumni Association and Parent -Teacher Association.
15. To provide Health services to the students.
16. To provide the best facilities to Sportspersons.
17. To strengthen the Placement Cell.

1. ACTIVITIES REFLECTING THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE
INSTITUTION.
A) TO ADVANCE THE CAUSE OF LOWER INCOME GROUP AND AMONG
STUDENTS COMING FROM TRADITIONAL BUSINESS SECTIONS.
The college extended priorities to the students coming from middle and lower income
group and traditional business sections for admissions.
Fee concession of different types was given to the needy.
The college is situated in the very heart of the city where the traditional business men are residing/running their business.
The college never discriminates among the students as far as their educational
background, financial status, castes and religions are concerned.
The college provided each educational facility to these students for the advancement of their higher education.
B) TO PROVIDE AN ENVIRONMENT WHICH FOSTERS CONTINUES
IMPROVEMENT AND INNOVATION WITH TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND
FACILITY TO ENHANCE STUDENT AND FACULTY EFFECTIVENESS :
The college has three faculties:
i. Commerce
ii. Science
iii. Arts
All the departments of above faculties continuously work hard to undertake various activities
providing an environment in order to foster continuous improvement and innovation. In order
to achieve this target, every possible technical support and facility was utilized and provided.
For the enhancement of the students and faculty effectiveness, following activities were
undertaken for the same:
Commerce faculty :
a. Industrial and field visits were organized.
b. Guest lectures on different topic were arranged.
c. Camps were arranged for maintaining mental and physical health.
d. Teachers’ participation in seminars and workshops was encouraged.
e. Inter - disciplinary program was started.
f. Placement Cell was made more efficient.
Science faculty :
a. Study Tours were organized.

b. Teachers’ participation in seminars and workshops was encouraged.
c. Participation of students in various activities.
Arts Faculty :
a. Study Tours were arranged.
b. Guest lectures for students were organized.
c. Participation of teachers in various seminars and workshops was encouraged.
C) TO INCULCATE IN STUDENTS THE NEED FOR SELF EMPLOYMENT AND THE
VALUE OF DIGNITY OF LABOUR :
All the three faculties and different departments work hard for inculcating need for self
employment and the value of dignity of labour among students. Majority of the students of this
college belong to the middle and lower income groups. The activities undertaken by the college
had immediate impact on the students who consequently responded with great interest and
enthusiasm.
Activities undertaken by the college were as below :
Commerce Faculty :
a. Lectures on „Opportunities in the field of Accounting‟ by. Anand Khandelwal, C.A. was
organized on 24/12/2005.
b. A Lecture by Apurva Chaturvedi, Director Wigan Leigh College was organized in
December 2005.
c. A Lecture on „Interview Techniques‟ by ‘Rosy Shateware’ was organized on
13/12/ 2005.
d. The Placement Cell organized campus interviews conducted by SBI, ICICI, &
SherKhan Industries. Four students were selected by ICICI, while six were selected by
SherKhan Industries.
Science Faculty :
A) To inculcate the value of dignity of labour Singhgad Cleaning Activity was organized for
the students in association with Rotary club.

a) Mr. K.K. Bagdane attended a workshop at Pune University
b) The College Campus Cleaning Program was organized on 13/08/05. Ninety Students
participated actively in the Camp.
c) 125 students of this college participated in the River Cleaning Activity on 25/8/05,
organized by Pune University.
d) A District Camp of the N.S.S unit was organized from 28/08/05.
e) One Day College Campus Clearing Camp and Street Play was organized on 24/09/05 Fifty
Volunteers of the unit participate a in it.
f) Mr. Upendra Kulkarni participated in the state Level Camp at „Hivare Bazar‟ from
24/09/05 to 30/09/05.
g) Miss Megha Darekar a volunteer of this unit was selected for pre-parade training
programme at Daman from 17/10/2005 to 27/10/2005.
h) A One Day Workshop for Programme Officers on „Swachhata Abhiyan‟ by Pune
University was attended by Mr. K.K. Bagdane.
i) A Workshop on Cleaning was organized in the college on 27th
& 28th
December 05 Prof.
Nitin Ghorpade Co-ordinator, N.S.S Pune University, Ms Yede, Miss Deshmukh Health
officer’s Pune were present on this occasion.
D) TO PROVIDE A SOUND ACADEMIC BASE FOR AN OVER ALL DEVELOPMENT OF
PERSONALITY FOR A SUCCESSFUL CAREER :
The college attempted in the best of its capacity to provide a sound academic base for an
overall development of personality of students as well as teachers. The best possible
educational & other facilities were provided to them. As per the planning maximum
activities were undertaken.

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS :
This year 2005 marks the centenary of Einstein’s three famous papers on Relativity,
Photoelectric effect and Brownian motion. This has prompted United Nation General
Assembly to declare 2005 as the International Year of Physics (IYP 2005) which, the Physics
community had earlier named as World Year of Physics, 2005 (WYP-2005). Indian Physics
Association along with other organizations were spearheading efforts to use the occasion to
highlight the importance of Physics and to focus on the role of Physics in National
Development.
In this regard the Department of Physics of our college conducted Various activities in the
College and Pune City and a few district places of Maharashtra. It includes Lectures by various
Scientist, Project Exhibitions etc. as below :
A programme for selecting Talents among the school and Undergraduate students was
organized at H.V.Desai College, Pune, in collaboration with Lions Club of Pune Seniors,
Pune. This programme was a part of Physics Talent Search conducted on the ocassion of
International year of Physics, 2005. The programme included slide show, Lectures by known
persons and Project exhibition. Dr. Bhoraskar V.N., Former Director Inter-University Centre,
Indore, Shri Sundarbhai Shah, Secretary, PGK Mandal, and Dr .C. N. Rawal, Principal of
the College inaugurated the Programme .
Dr.P.B.Vidyasagar delievered a talk on Life and Research Work of Einstein
Shri.S.Mahashabde, President of Lions Club of Pune Seniors and other members Shri Sunil
Javeri, Shri.Patankar and Shri Patwardhan Co-operated for conducting the programme.
2. A study visit of B.Sc. students was arranged on 13/1/06 to Peshave Park Pune to study solar
devices & others instruments.
3. A study visit of science students was organized at University of Pune on 22 /2/2006 to
various laboratories such as Nuclear Physics, Material Science, School of Energy studies.
4. A Guest Lecture of Prof. S.D.Aghav, Head Department of Physics, B.R.Gholap College was
organized on 15/2/2006 on the topic “Biopotential / Bioelectricity.”
5. A lecture of Dr.K.C.Mohite and Representattive of AARTI was arranged on “ Urja Bachat
Aani Aparamparik Urja” (Energy saving and Unconventional Energy)on the occasion of
National Science Day 28/2/2006 at H.V.Desai College Pune, for Science and Technical
students on National Science Day.

OUTLOOK :
All the faculties of the College were keen in having community orientation and civic
responsibilities in the students’ outlook.
Activities undertaken by various faculties were as below :
1. A Students’ visit to Loni Bazar was organized on 17 /1/2006.
2. Mr. Gorakhe D.C. ( Dept of Zoology ) attended the Orientation Programme of N.S.S.
unit at Ahmednagar from 23-9-2005 to 2-10-2005. He also attended the Workshop of
NSS on 10-9-2005 at Pune University.
3. A Students’ visit to Bhor Bhatghar Dam was organized on 15-10-2005.
4. The Sinhagad Cleaning Activity was organized on Feb 2005.
5. Students Visit to Pabal was organized with the Students’ Welfare Department, Pune
University.
6. A lecture on „Environmental Protection Act ’was organized.
7. Mr. Bagdane K.K. (Dept. of Botany) attended a Workshop on „Disaster Management‟
organized by Fergusson College on 6th

8. Mr. Bagdane K.K. attended Orientation Workshop organized by Bahai Academy,
Pachgani in collaboration with the NSS cell, Pune University on ‘Education in
Universal Human Values‟ from 25-10-2005 to 29-10-2005.
9. Mr. Bagdane K.K. attended various workshops organized for NSS Programme Officers
at Pune University.
10. Mr. Bagdane K.K. also participated in a Three Day Forest Sensitization Camp held at
Bhimashankar from 22-2-2005 to 25-2-2005. Seven students of this college also
participated in the same programme/ camp.
11. Mr. Bagdane K.K. participated in ‘Vruksha Dindi‟ from Pune to Pandharpur along
with 40 students of various colleges. The students of this College, Haran Math, and
Sagar Pujari also participated in the same programme on 1-7-05 to 18-7-2005.
12. Mr. Bagdane K.K. delivered guest lectures for NSS students of from various colleges
11-12-2005 to 25-12-2005.
13. The NSS Vruksha Dindi had an objective of „Swachhata Abhiyan‟ which was carried
for the Varkaries and masses belonging to the respective villages on the route (Saswad,
Jejuri, Daund, Lonand, Phaltan, Natepute, Vellapur , Pandharpur )
14. A Blood Donation Camp was organized by NSS unit on 12-8-2005 in association with
PSI Blood Bank, Pune,108 students donated their blood.
15. Mr. Upendra Kulkarni ( F.Y.B.Sc.) attended a State Level NSS Camp at Hivare
Bazaar, Dist. Ahmednagar from 24-9-2005 to 30-9-2005.
16. Miss Sunita Kamate, T.Y. B. Com. Attended a University Level Workshop
„ Swachhata Abhiyan ‟ at Kelgaon ( Alandi ) from 22-11-2005 to 30-11-2005.
17. The college arranged a lunch for more than 50 NSS students of various college
participated in “Vruksha Dindi” on 1-7-2005.
18. The NSS volunteers offered some grocery material (worth Rs. 2500/-) to earthquake
affected people of Jammu & Kashmir on 24-12-2005.
19. A workshop on ‘Gender Equality‟ was organized for the students.
F) TO DEVELOP AN ORIENTATION TOWARDS THE NATIONAL AND GLOBAL NEEDS
AS RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS :

The college conducted different activities for developing an orientation among
the students towards the national and global needs as responsible citizens as below :
Science faculty :
i. A Student visit to Water Purification Plant, Parvati, Pune was organized “A Blood
Donation Camp” was organized on 12-8-2005.
ii. Mr. K.K. Bagdane participated in a Three Day Forest Sensitization Camp held at
Bhimashankar on 22-25 Feb 2005.
iii. Students were guided to prepare to skits and street plays on their syllabi topics
namely „Typhoid & Collera‟ on 27 /12/2005.
Commerce faculty :
i. A Students’ visit to Post Harvest Horticultural Institute of Training of
Talegaon, Dist. Pune was organized on 27-12-2005.
ii. Principal Dr. C.N.Rawal delivered a lecture to the students on the
„Positive Thinking‟.
2. NEW ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES INITIATED :

1. Mock Communication was introduced in the subject „Business Communication‟
for commerce students.
2. Dr. K. C. Mohite, Head Dept. of Physics, was associated with the designing of
syllabus in physics.
4. INTERDISCIPLINARY PROGRAMMES:
Interdisciplinary lectures and discussions were arranged by the Science &
Commerce faculties.
The course “Environmental Science Awareness” was introduced to second year
students of all the faculties.

The college administration section has been computerized. New
software were installed as per requirement. Necessary training was
given to the staff.
As a result, the process of admissions, examination result, issuing of
certificates and other student related issues, became easy and quick to

The infrastructure being adequate to the existing courses, no addition in it
was made in this year. Instead, the necessary maintenance work and cleanliness
activities were undertaken with constant care.

The Gymkhana Committee of the college was very active during this year.
The year began with Cross Country Competitions on 30/7/2005. The
College participated in 15th
sport events. The Students of this College excelled
in Weight Lifting, best Physique, Wrestling, Volleyball, Boxing, Athletics,
and Rifle Shooting.
Mr. Ratnakar Patekar, T.Y.B.Com. obtained the first place in the Inter
University & Regional Competitions. He was also selected for All India Inter
University Competition.
Neha Mutha, F.Y.B.Sc. obtained the third place in Rifle Shooting. She was
selected for the Regional Competition.
Kalpita Malpani, S.Y.B.Com. was selected for Regional Volley Ball
Competition.
Madhav Shete F.Y.B.A. achieve the first place in Athletics in Running
Competition of 21 Kms.
Jayant Jana, T Y Bcom played very attacking in Kabaddi, and was selected for
Pune City Team.

Our College organized Pune City Inter Collegiate Hockey Tournament this
year. They were organized on the ground of SRPF Group at Ramtekdi. We had
best players team for Chess, Swimming, Bad-Minton, Wrestling, Table Tennis
(Men & Women), Volleyball (Men & Women), Athletics & Cricket.
34. INCENTIVES TO OUTSTANDING SPORTS PERSONS:
Additional Sports Equipments, diet facilities etc. were provided to the Out
standing Sports Persons.

This unit worked efficiently for guiding the students about their careers. Some
students were given psychological counseling who had serious,
personal or family problems.

The Placement Cell organized campus interviews conducted By SBI,
ICICI, and SHERKHAN INDUSTRIES Four students were selected by ICICI.
