ORIENTATION PROGRAMMEAn orientation programme was conducted for 1st year B.Com students on 16th and 17th of July 2015. The resource persons were Dr. K.V Thomas (Director, Career studies centre, St.Thomas College, Pala) and Mr. Bansan Thomas George (Director, Synergen Consultants). Mr. Bansan Thomas George had taken a one day motivating session on goal orientation and time management. Dr. K.V Thomas had taken a class on career opportunities for commerce students. Our former student and University rank holder Mr.Solomon Paily also took a motivating session sharing his experience and success mantra. The 1st year students were given an ice breaking session to bring enthusiasm to their new surroundings and enhance their confidence.

SOFT SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMEA soft skill development programme was conducted for second year B.Com students by Mr. Bansan Thomas George (Director, Synergen Consultants).

MERIT DAY The merit day of Commerce Association was conducted on 30th June 2015 to applaud the meritorious performers of the department. The Chief Guest was Dr. Joy Jacob, retired Principal of Deva Matha College. Mr. Solomon Paily who has secured A+ and Second Position in MG University B.Com Examination, March 2015 and Mr. Lithin Thomas and Kavya Ashok who secured UGC Net, December 2014 were honoured.

FOOD FEST With an objective to help poor people in the locality, we conducted a food fest on 15th March 2016. The event was highly appreciated with good participation from the students and we could raise a good amount.

FINESSE HUNT- THIRD EDITIONThe third edition of the intra department commerce fest ‘Finesse Hunt’ was held on 28th, 29th January and 1st February 2016. ‘Finesse Hunt’ is conducted in order to provide a platform for students to showcase their managerial skills, aptitude, knowledge level etc. Business Quiz, Best Management Team and Product Launch were the events conducted in this regard. The quiz master for the Business Quiz was Mr. Antony P Clemence (B.Com batch 2013 - 16). The event witnessed a neck to neck competition. The overall trophy was won by 2nd year (B.Com 2014-2017 batch) students led by Jose Stephen and Kavya Vijayan.

EDITORIAL There is a saying that examine the present in the light of past for the purpose of future. ‘Illuminatus’ is such a newsletter which throws light on glimpses of past success story of our commerce department and helps to continue this successful journey more brightly in present and future. ‘Illuminatus’ is the outcome of efforts of Commerce Association 2013-2016. I seize this opportunity to express my gratitude to Mr.Anish Thomas (Assistant Professor of Commerce, Deva Matha College, Kuravilangad) for inspiring me to take this endeavour and also Ms.Sherin Cyriac (Assistant Professor of Commerce, Deva Matha College, Kuravilangad) for her support throughout this work. I gratefully remember the help of my teachers and my senior Mr. Milan Thomas Alexander. Rachel Sunny (Training Head, Synergen Consultants), Jayan Kurian (Director, Synergen Consultants), Manu Jacob (HR Manager, Profoundis) were the resource persons. It was conducted in full swing with the aim to enhance the employability of students and for their bright career prospects. Group discussions, mock interviews, career related talks and other engaging activities were conducted as part of the programme.

CASUS BELLI 2015 AND ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION The Commerce Association activities kick started with the 13th edition of South Indian Management Fest ‘Casus Belli’ which was conducted on 1st August 2015. Mr. P.M Kuriakose, retired IAS Officer inaugurated the function. The grand inter college management fest, ‘Casus Belli’ had got a record participation of 618 students from various colleges. The fest included 7 splendid events including Best Manager, Business Quiz, IPL Auction, Marketing Game, Online Photography Contest, Treasure Hunt and a brand new event, Corporate Survivor. Saint Gits College Pathamuttam bagged the ever rolling Trophy for their best performance.

11th and 12th March 2016. Christians and non-Christians had special sessions. The retreat was lead by Community FIDEI under the spiritual leadership of Rev. Fr. James Kozhimala and his team members. It was a memorable and blessed experience where the Christian students had the opportunity to enter through the Door of divine mercy followed by Adoration, Confession and Holy Mass in Kuravilangad church.

UGC SPONSORED NATIONAL SEMINARA National Seminar on “Research Methodology and Statistical Data Analysis” was conducted during February 10th -12th 2016. It was officially inaugurated by Dr. M.D Baby (Doctoral Research advisor, Research Centre of Commerce, St. Dominic’s College, Kanjirappally). The Seminar included invited lecturers and panel discussions by eminent personalities. The Resource persons for Seminar were Dr. Roy C Mathew (Director, School of Gandhian Thought and Development Studies, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam), Dr. Madhu S Nair (Assistant Professor and Research Guide, Department of Computer Science, University of Kerala, Thiruvanathapuram), and Dr. Gabriel Simon Thattil (Professor of Commerce University of Kerala). The seminar was rich with around 150 participants including research scholars, faculties and students.
