Pg. 67 # 1 -4, 81. food, fuel, natural resources, water, recreation,

oxygen2. Three levels of biodiversity: family, community

and world.3. Extinction is when there are no more living

organisms of that species. Related to biodiversity because one less organism means there is less diversity.

4. Overexploitation of a resource: 1. fishing for cod (trawling, ruined the ecosystems at the

bottom)2. Collecting oil.

Pg. 67 # 1 -4, 81. oxygen, food, recreation, wood/trees, water, fuel,

inspiration, (food, water, fuel, carbon dioxide, and oxygen)2. biodiversity – species, genetic, earth level. 3. Extinction is the loss of a species, related to biodiversity

because when one species is lost, it decreases the biodiversity. Biodiveristy mean there is a diverse group, indicating multiple types

4. Overexploitation is when you use resources too quickly and use them up completely before they replace themselves. 1. Cod fish in Maritimes. Over fished. 2. Easter Island – chopped down all tress and overfished. 3. Aril Sea – water used up, decrease habitat. 4. Blue fin tuna – overfished.

• Five factors that effect ecosystems are habitat change, pollution, overexploitation, climate change, invasive species.

• No pollution or climate change, small amount of invasive species (rats ate tree seedlings).

• The sustainability was mostly effected by overexploitation (cut down all trees).

1. 5 factors that effect sustainability are, habitat change, climate change, overexplotation, pollution, invasive species. Did they use all factors? no., not all used.2. Which ones used? Did not use pollution or climate change. Habitat change, overexplotation and invasive species. Justifying them. (Examples)- Habitat change – cut down trees- over explotation – over fished- invasive species – rats – ate all the tree seedlingsInfereincing -

Human impact on Ontario (pg. 60 – 63)

• (bolded terms, subtitles, title, read 1st sentence, prior knowledge, CHUNK out the text – get the main idea)

• Human activities affect the ecosystem, there are ways to help.• Freshwater ecosystems – humans activities on the water effect the water

ecosystems. Such as, boat wakes – waves disturb terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems

• A suburban terrestrial ecosystems – urban sprawl – unplanned, disorganized development into the countryside. Human developmnet effects ecosystems all over ontraio, specifically the Niagra Escarpment. Environmental protection: called Niagara escarpment plan.

• Forest Ecosystems – Clear cutting – process of removing all trees from an area regardless of size. For example – clearcutting is an issue in most of Ontario in the Borel forests. Nedd to plant more trees. Destorying habitats death of species decreases diversity. Ontario uses sustainable clear cutting by adopting measures ensuring companies plant trees

Pg. 63, #1 – 41. Three stressors on freshwater lakes in Ontario

are:1. . Boats – gas - pollution – fish die2. .sewage - septic tanks – nitrogen leaks back into

water2. Urban sprawl affects the Niagara Escarpment in

the following ways:1. . Habitat change and habitat framentation.

3. Clear cutting is when: all trees get cut down.4. The major effect of clear cutting on the boreal

forest is….increased animal death, alternated water, soil degradation.

Invasive Species:Non-native species that causes harm to the ecosystem into which it has been introduced. They outcompete native species because they do not have natural predators.

Organism Region Effects

Dog-strangled vine

Native to Eurasia Introduced to North America as a garden plantInvaded sunny hillsides and ravines in southern OntarioSmoothers small plants, tree seedlings, small shrubs, and saplingAffects monarch butterflies
