Why VBS Matters And Is Worth All The Effort! From June 23 rd to June 27 th (6:30 to 8:00 PM – ages 4 – 6 th grade) Petsworth Church will once again host our yearly summer VBS. It takes a large dedicated group of volunteers to make that week happen – but it is so worth it. Here is why! Last year in Southern Baptist Churches . . . 2.5 million children attended VBS. Over 155,000 unchurched families connected with the body of Christ during VBS. Over 70,000 children made professions of faith at VBS. Over 1,300 children responded to Gods call into ministry or missions as part of VBS. In a single week, children received over 15 hours of intense discipleship. That is equivalent to 7 months of ministry. $6.5 million given to mission causes through VBS. So is it worth it – absolutely yes!! And consider these things as well . . . VBS is the best opportunity to reach more kids at one time with the life-changing message of Jesus. Many kids will come to VBS that may never otherwise come to our church – that should encourage us. VBS shows parents that you really care about their kids and allows them to get a first impression of our church. VBS gives kids five days of repetitive influence and gospel exposure. Children get saved at VBS and make life-changing decisions for Christ. So register today: https://kideventpro.lifeway.com/mychurch/?id=51848 Yours for VBS!! Carenet PENINSULA WALK 4 LIFE

Petsworth Senior Adults

Appreciation Spring Banquet 2019

About 2 dozen of our Senior Adults gathered Saturday morning, May 18th, for a time of food, fellowship, encouragement and challenge. This event was led by our Deacons, with the assistance of Women’s, Men’s, and Student Ministry cooking, taking orders, serving, sharing, asking questions, and fellowshipping with our Senior Adults. Thank you Senior Adults for your past and present and even future ministry as we seek to advance the good news both here and abroad.

NOTE: SAMS MEETINGS WILL RESUME IN THE FALL

Care Net Peninsula provides practical help and hope to women fac-ing pregnancy decisions. Funds raised through the walk and other means help the center provide the crucial services and support so desperately needed by women and babies in our community. This year Petsworth had a team in the Walk 4 Life, led by Lynn Luechauer.

As we move into the month of June, the theme is rest. Rest for the leaders as they have an oppor-tunity to be in a Wednesday night Bible study. Thanks to those who are working with the " Kids Summer Bible Study". Clubbers, I want to encour-age you to have some fun and join that Bible study. A couple of summer dates to remem-ber: June 14th-16th Family Camp out in Williamsburg. Aug. 2nd T&T lock in, 7 pm - 7 am. Aug 9th Sparks Fun Night, 7 pm- 10:30 pm. Aug. 24th Awana registration. You guys are the best, but Jesus is BETTER. EVERY CHILD, EVERYWHERE,

Jim Munson -

Angola Team Commissioning Salutations Church! As our Angola Prison Team settles in back home after journeying into the heart of the deep south, we excitedly await reports of their travels. In the meantime, let us briefly visit the plantation turned prison to see for ourselves what life has been like behind it's century old steel bars. First, we must pass between the gates through which many inmates enter yet few ever depart. The origins of the prison can be traced all the way back to the late nineteenth century, when prisoners resided in the Angola Plantation's old slave houses. The state of Louisiana commandeered the prison in 1901 due to reports of inmate brutality and neglect. During the decades following, the prison weathered many obstacles, from frequent flooding by the Missis-sippi River to severe budget cuts during the Great Depression. By the 1960's, Angola Prison was infamously known as the bloodiest prison in the south due to it's high rate of inmate assaults. Thankfully, by the 1990's, the prison began to change for the better. Levees were constructed to protect it from further flooding and the prison was recog-nized for it's adherence to national prison standards. The prison has grown is now roughly the size of Manhattan and houses approximately 6,300 prison-ers--the largest maximum security prison in the country. Not only is the prison large but it is also nearly completely self-supporting. Inmates sow, cultivate and harvest a variety of crops each year and even feature their own maga-zine and radio station. The average sentence for inmates at Angola is 89.9 years, meaning a high percentage will never be free men again. This is where Awana's Returning Hearts Program steps in. This program's mission is to restore and equip in-carcerated individuals, helping them become godly parents. Throughout the year, incarcerated individuals participate in a program much like Awana. In order to graduate from the program, inmates must memorize bible verses, study scripture and attend regular bible studies. As a part of this program, once a year, there is a celebration event that hap-pens at the prison where children and their fathers are united for a day of games, food, Bible teaching and relationship building. This much anticipated event is what our team went to Angola to support. Stay tuned next month for personal accounts of all that occurred during this exciting time of reuniting. For now, I suppose it is time to leave the prison gates and fences far behind and enter back into our land of freedom and comforts. May our prayer for the inmates of Angola and prisons throughout the nation be that they will seek and find forgiveness, healing and rest in the arms of our Savior and Lord, the One who breaks our chains. May God bless each of you,

--

Love God, Love People

Sunday, May 12th, was Mother’s Day. We celebrated Mothers along with Parent/Child Dedication and Baptism.

A parent/child dedication is a time in which you express your de-sire, as parents, to raise your sons and daughters according to the truths of Scripture and to pray continually for God to use your sons and daughters for His greater Purposes and glory.

The church also pledges to come alongside parents in their role of raising spiritual sons and daughters. As a church, we need to pray for these families and little ones. It was also a day of believers obedience through baptism. We added to the Petsworth Family Jeanette Whitcomb and Josiah Stickles through their baptisms.

Robert and Katie Blake dedicated their daughter, Emily Blake.

This summer we will be heading to Boston to begin a partnership with a church plant. This church plant is something that we, not only as a student ministry, but as a church plan to pour into and grow a relationship for many years to come. We will be teaming up with Grace Church and their pastor, Stephen Sargent, in Bridgewater, a suburb of Boston. While in Boston our day will begin by working a kid’s camp; then serving the local community with various needs. We will wrap up the day with some worship and purpose-ful devotional time. We will get time to do some tourist things as well. The team appreciates Petsworth’s prayers, en-couragement and financial support. This is the kind of trip that will change lives!
