Offshore Projects & Operations

What kind of projects are we working on in Petrofac OPO?

Offshore Projects & Operations (OPO) is one of seven business units within Petrofac. Headquartered in Aberdeen and operating across Petrofac’s key geographies, we specialise in both offshore engineering and construction services and the provision of operations and maintenance, on and offshore.

Kittiwake Platform

Since2003,PetrofachasbeendeliveringDuty Holder and engineering management services to the Kittiwake platform. As well as constructionservices,wehavesuppliedandmanaged a wide range of work scopes and enabledsizeableproductionimprovementsforCentrica,includingenhancingproductionby50%since2005.

Shetland Gas Plant

InOctober2010TotalawardedPetrofaca£500millionlump-sumengineering,procurement and construction contract to develop the new Shetland Gas Plant (SGP) which,whencompleted,willfacilitatethetransportation of gas from the Laggan and TormorefieldsbacktoTotal’sgasterminalatStFergus,nearPeterhead,Aberdeenshire.

Petrofac is executing the works and overseeing the development of the SGP throughtoitshandovertoTotalin2014.

Apache Forties

Apache’saimwastoextendtheexpected life of the Forties field. Petrofac won the Apache onshore engineering and offshore constructioncontractin2009,andbeganthetransitiontoPetrofacofApache’sfiveUKNorthSeaassetsontheFortiesfield:Alpha,Bravo,Charlie,DeltaandEchoinJanuary2011.

There is a technical training matrix for every discipline as well as lots of soft skills training throughout the graduate programme.Youarealsoworkingin a multi discipline team with lots of experienced engineers that you can learn from. The opportunity to do the work for realisthebestwaytolearn.

Are there any travel opportunities? If so, where to?

Tell us something you have learned since you joined Petrofac?

ThesizeandaspirationsoftheCompanyhasbeenakeylearningpointforme.Whilst on placement I never appreciated howbigtheCompanyactuallywas.Itsfuture plans are particularly interesting andcouldbeverybeneficialforgraduatedevelopment.

What additional learning/training opportunities are there?

Petrofac is very keen to develop graduates throughout their time within the Company. As part of this we are encouraged to attend any relevant training courses.

Role:• TechnicalSafetyEngineer,responsible

for design or operation of oil & gas and petrochemical facilities onshore andoffshoreworldwide.Employingsafety engineering principles in various challenging and rewarding roles

• scopesrangingfrominitialconceptandfielddevelopmentstudies,throughfront-endengineeringtodetaileddesign,commissioning and operational support

• applicationofUKRegulationstodesignandoperations,todemonstratethatmajorhazardriskisbeingmanagedinaccordance with company policies and statutoryrequirements

• provideindependentsafetyengineeringadviceandcontributetorelevanttechnicalsafetystudies,e.g.HAZID,HAZOP,HazardousAreaClassification,Fire&ExplosionAnalysis,QRA,SIL/LOPA,SafetyCriticalElements/PerformanceStandards,etc

Requirements:HonoursDegree(minimum2:1)inanEngineeringdiscipline(Chemical/Electrical/Mechanical/Processetc).Personswithprevious practical working experience within theaboveareofparticularinterest.
