PetroBowl℠ Yearbook 2015
About PetroBowlThe PetroBowl competition is a fast-paced quiz-style competition covering
technical and non-technical aspects of the oil and gas industry, that matches SPEstudent chapters against one another.
Since its launch in 2001 by the Gulf Coast Section, the competition has been heldin conjunction with ATCE and has grown in popularity globally. This has been put
together by a dedicated work group of SPE Members from all over the world
The 2015 PetroBowl regionals took place across six regions: Africa, Asia Pacific,Europe, Latin America & Caribbean, Middle East and North America. Resulting inthe most globally diverse matches we have ever had. 103 teams took part in the
2015 Regional Qualifiers for a chance to become one of the top 36 teams tocompete at the Championship at the 2015 Annual Technical Conference and
Exhibition.
2015 PetroBowlA total of 103 teams from 28 countries competed against each
other in six regional qualifier competitions.
The Regions:AFRICA, ASIA PACIFIC, EUROPE, LATIN AMERICA & CARIBBEAN,
MIDDLE EAST and NORTH AMERICA
The top two teams from each regional qualifier earned seededplacement. An additional 24 teams advanced to the
championship.

D. Nathan Meehan, 2016 Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)president, is a senior executive adviser at Baker Hughes, advisingexecutive management on reservoir and geoscience issues.Previously, he was president of CMG Petroleum Consulting, vicepresident of engineering for Occidental Oil & Gas; and generalmanager exploration and production at Union Pacific Resources.He is a licensed professional engineer in four states and haspublished scores of papers.
Mack Shippen is a Principal Engineer with Schlumberger in Houston,where he is responsible for the global business of the PIPESIM
multiphase flow simulation software. He has extensive experience inwell and network simulation studies, ranging from flow assurance to
dynamic coupling of reservoir and surface simulation models. He hasserved on a number of SPE committees and chaired the SPE Reprint
Series on Offshore Multiphase Production Operations. He holds BS andMS degrees in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University,
where his research focused on multiphase flow modelling.

CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIERS
The PetroBowl Championship took place on the first officialday of ATCE 2015, at the George R. Brown Convention Centre in
Houston, Texas.
Teams were made up of the regional winners, runners upand highest scoring teams. This Championship showcased
an increased regional variety in its qualified teams, with fiveof the elite eight coming from different regions.

As Shell we find it very important to support theinitiatives organised by the SPE for its Young
Members. This year’s PetroBowl was an amazingdisplay of team spirit and fun, combined with
skills and knowledge. The international podiumwith Delft UT, University of Texas and the winner
UNAM was a great display of how the SPE hasreached out across the world to inspire and
involve the Young Members to be active.

six regions: Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America &Caribbean, Middle East and North America.
