Our school have received a number of brilliant students. These
students want to takecourses in summer to graduate early to peruse
an early career or continue their further
studies. This thing is not only beneficial for the students but
it will also save funding
of the university due to their early graduation.
There are a specific number of International Students that are
taking double majors.These students utilize the summer to catch up
with their additional courses and to
complete their degree before the estimated time. Thus they save
university from
additional costs that is going to be spent on their extra
academic year.
We all are new to Turkish food and sometimes the meals at school
are not reallycompatible with the taste we have developed in our
lives. There are some students
who spend the cash on buying the provisions and cooking
themselves. With the cash
money, they might enjoy the luxury of eating fruits as well.
Living is not only eating and students have to buy some little
items for dressing,bathing, washing, mobile communication etc. We
cannot buy these things from
Bakkal as our food scholarship is limited, 15 TL per day average
while two time
meals, on an average cost 16TL. Cash scholarship will help
students to meet these
costs and live in ease.
Moreover, Ramdhan and Bayram are within summer school time so
with this cashmoney students can be more confortable during these
occasions. In fact, it will add to
their joy on Bayram and will ease down the intensity of
Ramadhan.
Information came from a credible official source that University
will not provide cash to
Turkish Students as well. Respected, there is a huge difference
between the situation of
Turkish students and the International Students.
Most of the Turkish students that receive cash scholarship are
being funded by someorganizations and government as well due to
their success but International Students
only have University scholarship. It means that even without
cash scholarship Turkish
Students can easily survive because of alternative sources of
funding but International
students cannot.
Turkish students get more food scholarship, so that can buy
their basic necessitiesfrom the Bakkal, while International
Students cannot.
Most of the Turkish Students are from Istanbul or have relatives
in Istanbul so theyhave option to spend their time with families to
refresh themselves, at least on
weekends but in case of International Students the only option
we have is to go out
with friends that obviously cost a little amount of cash
money.
They can be funded and are being funded by their parents while
when an InternationalStudents wants to get money from his parents;
it costs 10%-15% commission.
Moreover, most of the International Students come from middle
class families and
their parents cannot afford to send huge amounts due to high
conversion rates of TL.

We totally understand and respect the scholarship contract that
is for9 months only yet we
ask for a moral support from the university. University has been
funding people in last
summer so they should continue doing the same act in this summer
as well. There has been
several requests in past about increasing scholarships or
providing plane tickets but I (Abdul
Basit Adeel) believe that they were illogical. Yet this demand
is ethical and will not costuniversity too much. It should be
considered in order to keep the morale of International
Student, high.
Secondly, we dont want this thing to be done for this summer
only. It would be better to
make a permanent amendment in the scholarship policy so that
next time it will not create
any discomfort. Moreover, this act will get more and more
International Students to get
enrolled in the Summer Semester. In addition to that it might
affect the prospective
International Students.
We believe that university has resources to meet the costs of
this request. We also hope that
we will hear something good from you.
