Weight TrainingProper weight training disciplines are critical.

Learn to do it right either with the certification track or by taking individual classes. The series is taught by an experienced and certified personal trainer.

Classes meet on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon at Palmetto Fitness. Cost is $199 for the entire certification track or $59 per individual class.

Squatology: Everyone has heard the numerous myths of squatting while in the gym. Learn why they are false and how they may be limiting you in reaching your goals. Topics include the best way to squat for your body for everyday life and in the gym to help you reach those goals free of pain and injury.

Bench Press and More: Learn how to perform one of the most popular lifts in the gym for optimal performance as well as many other pressing movements. Understand optimal form and proper technique that will surely take you to the next level.

Deadlifting 101/Bending: Learn how to hinge and bend from the hips without injuring your back. Also, we will dispel many of the popular gym culture myths about deadlifting. Strengthen your technique and get the most benefit from your lifts.

Pull: Learn how to correctly perform the pull-up, bent-over row, seated row and other popular pull exercises. One of the things we all fight is slouching posture. Learn how to combat it with the best exercises for a strong back.

Personal Trainer CertificationPersonal trainers help people get healthy and feel

better about themselves. Not only is this a rewarding career, but it is in demand. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of fitness trainers and instructors is expected to grow by 24 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations.

Trident Technical College’s Personal Trainer program is offered in conjunction with World Instructor Training Schools (W.I.T.S.), which provides one of the top four certifications for personal fitness training. This five-week program does not guarantee a certification, but rather prepares you to take the certification examination. It includes 15 hours of hands-on practical training, 15 hours of classroom instruction and a 30-hour internship that networks many graduates right into a job.

XFIT 501-004 meets on Saturdays, Sept. 6-Oct. 11 from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Cost is $699.

Personal Trainer Recertification Online Courses

Online courses are now available 24/7 for certified personal trainers seeking recertification. Courses are taught by W.I.T.S.-certified trainers. Course descriptions and textbook information are available at http://www.witseducation.com/resources/wits-promo-materials.zip. Receive .6 CEUs or 6 CECs.

To register, call 843.574.6152. Students are contacted directly by W.I.T.S. upon registration. Class start time is arranged shortly thereafter. Cost is $199 per course.
