Features of a p.d.p
A personal development plan which maps out how a person can develop skills and progress in his or her
job.
They must follow the following features :• Look at the development of the individual employee
• Be all about the aspirations of the employee• Look at the broad long-term development in the
future• Be written in a structured way, recorded and
reviewed with your line Manager
Writing clear targetsWhen setting targets, it is very important that the
targets follow this pattern for them to be successful.

TIMEBOUND
Ways to monitor and control p.d.p/targets
BUDDY SYSTEM
Where and employee is paired with a more
experienced person so that help and advice can be called
upon if need be
MENTORING SYSTEM
Where a senior member of staff is assigned to an
employee to supply advice and knowledge of the
organisation and how it works
LINE MANAGER
Involves periodic checks of work or discussions about
progress of tasks to ensure that required quality
standards are being met by staff
INTERNAL AUDITS
A type of quality system to check organisational standards
and quality are being met. Usually carried out by staff external to the department.
