In the

beginning…

It’s the beginning of a new month at Redeemer.

November 2019

Dear People of God,

On 1 November, once again we will celebrate the ancient and important feast of the Church,

All Saints’ Day. The faith that we possess today is ours because of the many faithful persons who

have gone before us. Without the conviction and courage of these people, there would be no

Church today; for ours is a living faith, transmitted through the witness of Christians through all

ages. It is only through the living witness of God’s people that the truth of the witness of Scripture

is tried and made manifest. Indeed, Scripture itself is a witness of persons to whom and through

whom God’s saving activity was brought to pass.

On All Saints’ Day, we remember and give thanks for all Christians who gave their lives in service to Christ, some of

whom even shed their blood and died as martyrs. Many of their names are known to us, but the names of far more of

them are known only to God. Some of them died long ago, even in biblical times, and some have died even in our

own lifetimes. On All Saints’ Day, we remember all of them, give thanks for their witness, and ask for their prayers.

Michael Ramsey speaks of the communion of saints in terms of a family: “...The Saints are not isolated meritorious

mediators as some Western presentations had made them appear, but rather a family in which we may all pray to

one another and for one another, a family created by the birth of the God-Man through the Holy Spirit and the

response of Blessed Mary.“

Join us this All Saints’ Day at one of our Masses at 7:30 AM, 10 AM, or 6 PM.

See you in church!

Faithfully yours,

Church of the Redeemer 222 S. Palm Avenue Sarasota, FL 34236 redeemersarasota.org 941 955 4263
