In addition to the products shown in this catalogue, weare also able to supply special models or adaptations ofexisting cleats. This can be as simple as producing acleat in a specific colour, adding or removing a roller, oras complex as designing and manufacturing acompletely new item using our own in-house researchand toolmaking facilities.

A short company history

In 1963 the mischance parting of a light pull-cord from itsknob triggered off the thought that there must be a bettermeans of attachment than threading the cord through ahole and tying a knot. With the 'necessity' established,the 'invention' followed in short order and was proved bya model of the first of our cleats – grip commensuratewith load and no moving parts.

Following exhaustive development work and materialtrials, the first nylon cleats were produced in 1965. In thesame year Clamcleats Limited was formed, initial patentswere filed and the trade mark Clamcleat was registered.

The company is a family concern with sound engineeringand administrative background and dedicated to offeringquality and personal service. Right from the beginning, ithas been company policy to offer excellent service to allour customers. Good stocks are held so most orders canbe supplied ex-stock, via distributors throughout thesailing world.

All manufacturing is undertaken in house, from designand toolmaking, through casting and moulding tofinishing and packaging. This ensures all stages ofproduction can be closely controlled to ensure highquality cleats.

Whilst Clamcleat® rope cleats sell chiefly in the sail-boatand windsurfing markets, there are numerous industrialapplications but no call, so far, for a switch pull-cordcleat!

Complementary ranges to satisfy all needsMarine grade nylon cleats offer very good value for money, for bothproduction builder and sailor alike. They are ideal for most applicationswhere high loads or rope surges are not likely to be encountered. Nyloncleats are corrosion resistant and will last for many years outdoors.

Aluminium cleats are highly successful in providing a complete answerto rope burn. They are unaffected by the heat generated by a ropesurging back through a cleat as well as being suitable for sub-zerotemperatures. Corrosion resistance is good.

For extra protection from corrosion and a high tech appearance, all ofour popular aluminium cleats are offered with a hard anodised finish.

Our research into cleat materials over the years has shown aluminium tobe far better for high performance cleats than any polymer, irrespectiveof any fibre reinforcement or additive. These factors make aluminiumcleats the best choice for demanding applications.

Standard colours are shown in the photographs but special coloursare available to order. For example, white CL204 are supplied for windowblinds.

Most cleats are provided with countersunk fixing holes. Countersunk(flathead) screws or bolts of the recommended size should be used;bolts being preferred. If using rivets with a powered fixing gun, makesure the pressure is not set too high. Fastenings must be enteredstraight so that the heads do not protrude to snag the rope. Several ofthe cleats have been designed with a groove in the base enabling themto be fitted to both flat and curved surfaces.

The cleat flips up torelease the rope when aset load is exceeded. TheCL257 is easily re-set oradjusted for differentrelease loads, even out onthe water.
