FIRE RETARDANT PROPERTIESZOTEK F foams are inherently fire retardant, low smoke, low heat release materials.ZOTEK F30 and F30 LS has been subjected to indicative testing using several aviation standards and UL 723(ASTM E-84-01) Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials.
Indicative testing of ZOTEK F30 shows it meets the stringent UL 94 vertical burn test with a V0 rating. A EuroclassB standard was achieved during indicative testing to the EU fire tests EN ISO 1195-2, the Single Flame SourceTest, and EN 13823 the Single burning item (SBI) test.
THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY VALUESThe thermal conductivity of ZOTEK F30 has been tested in accordance with ISO, DIN and ASTM test methodsat three mean temperatures.

SOLVENT RESISTANCEZOTEK F30 has exceptional solvent resistance. The foam was placed in Fuel C, a 50:50 mixture of toluene andiso-octane as defined in many fuel equipment standards, at 60°C and the weight gain measured after 16 days.

UV RESISTANCEZOTEK F30 has exceptional UV resistance. The foam was exposed to intense UV light in Xenon ArcLamp test equipment, a widely used accelerated weathering test based on ISO 105-B02. The lossof strength was measured after 1000 and 2000 hours exposure.

UV STABLEZOTEK F has excellent weathering propertiesbeing exceptionally resistant to UV andozone degradation. Although not translucent,it permits and maintains relatively high lighttransmission.
HIGH PURITY, LOW TOXICITYKynar is a high purity fluoropolymer usedin many ‘clean’ applications. ZOTEK F foamsmaintain this purity. They are physicallyexpanded using Zotefoams’ unique nitrogenprocess and contain no pigments, fillers, light stabilisers or other additives that couldleach or contaminate during use.The base unpigmented PVDF resin isapproved to FDA 177.2600 for repeatedfood contact.
CONTROLLED FLEXURAL RESPONSEKynar PVDF fluoropolymers exhibit varyingdegrees of flexibility or stiffness. This isexaggerated by the degree of expansionachieved in the foaming process. Flexiblepolymers become even more flexible whenfoamed to lower densities, adoptingelastomeric properties that make them idealfor cushioning and sealing applications.More rigid polymer foams, when expandedto higher densities, maintain a higher stiffnessto weight ratio, ideal for structuralapplications.
PROCESSABILITYZOTEK F foams can be converted andfabricated using traditional foam fabricationtechniques such as sawing, routing, laminating, welding, die cutting etc.The material is ideal for thermoforming usingvacuum forming or compression mouldingtechniques.
FINISHINGZOTEK F presents a fine closed cell surfacesuitable for direct use in many applications. To enhance its aesthetic appeal andfunctionality it can be laminated with a widerange of fabrics and foils or coated bydipping or spraying. Finishes are availablethat will improve the already high surfacedurability and enhance to impart a highdegree of scratch resistance.
ZOTEK® F is a new range of lightweight, closed
cell, PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) foams based
on Kynar® fluoropolymer a remarkable material
that offers a unique balance of properties.
Kynar exhibits exceptionally wide temperature
tolerance (to 160°C), excellent UV, nuclear radiation
and ageing resistance, high dielectric strength and
outstanding resistance to a wide range of solvents
and aggressive chemicals. It is biologically inert,
thermally stable across a wide temperature range
and is of a very low order of toxicity.
In ZOTEK F, these properties are combined with
light weight, flexural response, buoyancy and thermal
and acoustic insulation properties derived from the
foaming process. Like their parent resins, ZOTEK F
foams are expected to exhibit outstanding durability
and longevity.
FIRE RETARDANT AND LIGHTWEIGHTMany so called ‘fire retardant’ foams areopen cell in nature and have to be sealedwith a suitable barrier material to avoidmoisture absorption during use. Others notrequiring barrier films tend to be high densityheavy materials. ZOTEK F provides a uniquecombination of properties; inherently flameretardant, light weight and impermeable.ZOTEK F foams have been developed in arange of densities down to 30 kg/m3 (1.9pcf) some 1/60th of the density of the solidresin.
CHEMICAL AND SOLVENT RESISTANTZOTEK F is highly resistant to acids, halogens, alcohols, hydrocarbons andozone. It has good resistance to ketones, amines, bases and oxidising agents.
