After reliable connectivity is established, the next step is a secure infrastructure to land and manage real-time data, thereby enabling collaboration by making it available to users via a standard Internet Web browser 24/7/365. Schlumberger offers theInterACT service to bring well-sites and reservoirs to desktops. The InterACT service featuresthe latest standards in security and data (WITSML). Drilling optimization application enables collaborative real-time monitoring, analysis, and support for well construction operations PERFORMViewThe PERFORMView application provides unique drilling surveillance capabilities, including time and depth synchronized displays with BHA information, automatic rig-state detection, and advanced collaboration tools.A dashboard approach to view job status schematic, rig activity breakdown chart, time/depth curves, and crossplots enables operation surveillance at a glance and provides a window into performance analysis, all using real-time data.PERFORMViewThe PERFORMView application is designed primarily for drilling engineers remotely supporting operations. However, its flexibility allows use by the entire range of people who support drilling operations. Available information ranges from simple graphical or numerical gauges to the KPI analysis level. On the rig, userscan include the rig supervisor, drilling engineers, and the well-site geologist. PERFORMView software is most frequentlyused in an Operation Support Center or similar remote collabo-ration environment, in which aPERFORMView expert can engage geotechnical domain experts, bringing those skills to bear on the range of geological and reservoir challenges in drilling operations.Advanced visualizationThe PERFORMView applicationservice enables visualization of acquired data that puts in perspective drilling-related parameters, formation evalua-tion measurements, and static information such as BHA or mudproperties. This multidomain approach can be particularly valuable in detecting under- performances or anticipatingdrilling problems. Setting the PERFORMView application apart is the ability to plot subsurface data indexed in both time and depth with the BHA to scale, while remaining synchronized as users change the time display range. Real-time data can be plot-ted along with data imported from models and offset wells to ensure that drilling parameters remain within predetermined safe limits.Automated rig-state(activity) detection The at-a-glance PERFORMView job status schematic displays rig state and well curtain section with information such as casing, bit depth, and actual versus planned well trajectory. The schematic is continuously updated based ona powerful rig-state detection algorithm. The algorithm automati-cally derives the drilling process occurringfor example, on-bottom drilling, in-slips, circulating, tripping, etc. using data from rig sensors. This automatically computed rig state information complements the log entries made by the rig crew to provide rig activity information more frequently. The data can then be used to benchmark and analyze rig and drilling perfor-mance, identify anomalies, and areas for improvement. Key performance indicators Every company has its own defined set of KPIs. The PERFORMView application features a powerful user-defined function package that allows computation of cus-tomized KPIs as a function of any real-time measurement or static parameter. The package auto-matically checks for consistency and data availability. An example of a typical customized KPI is the mechanical specific energy (MSE) computation. The mechanical specific energy KPI is designed to determine how effectively the energy at the surface is being transmitted to the bit to make the hole. This calculation uses both real-time and historical real-time data and is a powerful tool to improve drilling performance.Risk and events captureand import During the drilling process, drilling engineers working in remote Operation Support Centers use PERFORMView software to capture and archive significant drilling events, indexed in both time and depth. These events can then be used in G&G models for correlation purposes. However, more importantly, a number of these events can be identifiedas drilling hazards, for example geomechanical risks, hole clean-ing issues, fluid loss zones. In subsequent wells the correlated hazards can be imported into the PERFORMView application and plotted with real-time measure-ments to identify areas of similar risk before they are drilled. If a complete set of real-time data is available from historical wells, the data can be reviewed using the PERFORMView application before starting a new or nearby well. The powerful crossplot package within the PERFORMView application enables analysis of drilling data foranticipation and detection of potential problems.Alarms The PERFORMView application includes alarms that can be set to a range of existing or user-defined drilling parameters. These alarms alert drilling surveillance engineers to changes in performance or bring to their attention measure-ments that may be approaching or exceeding predefined limits, introducing risks to the drilling operation. These alarms can also be triggered based on risks and events identified and archived in earlier drilling operations. This isa powerful way to ensure that earlier lessons learned or problems encountered are used to mitigate risk and improve performance of current operations.Drilling data analysis Postjob analysis of drilling data is a critical step in anticipating, identifying, and resolving under-performance problems in future drilling operations. PERFORMView data analysis in real time greatly simplifies postjob analysis. Risks identified and lessons learned are readily captured to share with the team and use on future wells. More powerful and simpler to use than generic spreadsheet software, the PERFORMView application also ensures consis-tency across the organization.Crossplots package The PERFORMView application makes crossplotting easy. Data import requires no effort and charts are automatically updated as new drilling data points are received. A variety of standard crossplots are available, such as 2D and 3D color-coded, which operate in both time and depth. The crossplot functionality allows filtering data by rig states, which results in clearer plots and more evident correlation betweenmeasurementsan important aspect of drilling optimization. The results can then be used to target areas for improvement, both well-to-well and rig-to-rig. Performance analysis PERFORMView software has preconfigured charts that provide compelling KPIs to evaluate and analyze operation performance. For example, the rig activity break-down chart shows the amount of time spent in each rig state over a period of time defined by the user, and the time vs. depth crossplot colored by rig state provideseffective tracking of job progress in the context of rig activity.COLLABORATION It is important to have a cultureof collaboration and effectivecommunication between operation centers and the rigs they support. Responsibilities and processes must be defined and comple- mentary, rather than overlapping.Designed with this in mind, the PERFORMView application com-plements rig operations when used by a drilling surveillance engineer, enabling the sharing of information on which recommen-dations are based. All members of a team can take ownership of decisions based on common understanding. With this tool, the team can extend to all domain experts, regardless of location.Multi-user enabledThe PERFORMView application maintains a record of all team members involved in each job, including those located at the wellsite. This creates a community of users in which communica-tions can be shared securelyand the role of each member clearly identified.Shared surveillance screensA key feature of PERFORMView software is the ability it gives users to assemble plots and charts in a customized dashboard view to monitor a particular aspect of the drilling operationfor example, pressure monitoring or drilling mechanics. These custom views can be shared before, during, or after operations to ensure a consistent level of understanding across the team, especially those at the rig. When a recommenda-tion is made, the ability to share viewing screens that show the analysis rationale ensures that decisions are mutually agreed upon and that plans or risk mitiga-tion steps are well understood. Regardless of locationat the wellsite or in the officeall members of the drilling team share a single common view of the complete range of real-timedrilling data acquired and analyzed within the context of all other available information and assembled into a customizable dashboard.PERFORMViewInstant communicationBuilt-in communication features include chat and annotationsharing. In addition, a white board allows quick capture of drilling surveillance screens as a live screenshot seen by all users. Users can then annotate, write comments, or draw on the sharedscreenshot in real time to visuallyclarify issues, decisions, or concerns. All results can be cap-tured and archived by the drilling surveillance engineer for use in future operations.
