The technical and research acumen of faculty members has percolated in

the students of this college as well who have consistently won pole positions

in research competitions. Notably the prestigious “Young Innovative Choice

Competition” Organised by ICT, Mumbai, which entails students to solve

practical technical problems faced by the pharma industry. Consistently over

the years our students have successfully found the most innovative and

feasible solutions to the allotted problems fetching them top positions.

Mr. Nilesh Mundle stood first in “AAVISHKAR 2012” state level poster

presentation organized by University of Mumbai

Ms. Mugdha Karade M.Pharm student won First prize for oral presentation

on at IPA Convention-2011

Cultural & sports -

Our student enthusiastically participate in extracurricular activities too and

1. About Hyderabad (Sind) National Collegiate Board

1.1 Brief History of HSNC Board

‘Vidyasagar’ Late Principal K.M. Kundnani began his career as a

Professor and then Principal of the D.G. National College in Hyderabad,Sind in Undivided India. Caught in the whirlwind of the partition, he cameto Mumbai in the hope of resurrecting not only his career, but also to valiantlyfight to rebuild his shattered institution brick by brick. His concerns forhundreds of educators and students from his community, who had migratedto Mumbai from Sindh, inspired him to create the Hyderabad (Sind) NationalCollegiate Board. He received active support and encouragement from LateBarrister Hotchand G. Advani. Both of them founded the Hyderabad (Sind)National Collegiate Board in 1949. Both these eminent personalities playeda pioneering role in the field of higher education in Mumbai and Ulhasnagar.Late Barrister Hotchand G. Advani was the Founder President and‘Vidyasagar’ Late Principal K.M.Kundnani was the founder Secretary andfounder Principal of the first college started by Hyderabad (Sind) NationalCollegiate Board known as the R.D. National College at Bandra. This wasfollowed by a chain of educational institutions belonging to various facultiessuch as Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Education, Law, Pharmacy,Engineering and Technology etc.

Today, the HSNC Board manages 29 educational institutes includingSecondary & Higher Secondary school, polytechnics, degree & post graduatecolleges with over 2000 teaching staff and over 2500 non teaching-staff andoffers education to more than 50,000 students in all faculties & is the largesteducational corpus in Mumbai. The HSNC Board is managed by dedicatedteam of professionals led by the dynamic President, Mr. NiranjanHiranandani. Appropriate committees have been set up to provide a dynamicand vibrant environment to all educational institutes of the Board. Thecommittees monitor academic standards, organize faculty developmentprograms and provide administrative support to all Institutes of the Board.The HSNC Board also provides international education programs abroadfor its faculty and students and receives foreign faculty and students inMumbai.

The HSNC Board has the unique distinction of being the largest group of

institutions affiliated to the University of Mumbai.

The ESE in the subject Experimental Techniques in Pharmaceutical Scienceswill be conducted by the college/institution on behalf of the university. Afterthe conduct of the examination, the marks will be forwarded by the college/institution to the University

Total Credits: Semester II – 24

Semesters III and IV

Research work related to the title of the thesis that has been registered with

the University.

The learner should be allotted a Research Guide in Sem. I. The Guiding

Teacher (Research Supervisor) along with the learner may plan the Research

area to be pursued during Sems. III and IV. The title of the thesis should be

communicated to the University before the commencement of Sem. III. The

learner is expected to work a minimum of 40 hrs/week in Research to be

entitled for 24 Credits each Semester. The Guiding Teacher (Research

Supervisor) will sign a statement to this effect at the conclusion of Semesters

III and IV, which may be communicated to the Controller of Examinations at

the conclusion of each semester. Before completing the course, the learner

will be required to give a Colloquium on the research work carried out by

him/her during Sems. III and IV. The Colloquium will follow an open structure

and will be assessed besides others by the Head of the Department, the

Guide and the Principal of the College. A Statement that the learner has

delivered a Colloquium must be sent to the University and will be mandated

before the conduct of the viva-voce examination by the University.

Learners should be encouraged to attend conferences, seminars where they

may present their research work, and to publish the findings of their research.

At the end of Sem. IV the learner will submit a thesis to the university. This

will jointly be evaluated by the guiding teacher and an external examiner

appointed by the university from academia or from the pharmaceutical

industry. The evaluation will be for a total of 100 marks, of which 50 marks

will be given by the guiding teacher and 50 marks by the external examiner.

The parameters on which the marks will be given are: a. Literature Survey

(10 marks) b. Presentation (8 marks) c. Methodology (7 marks) d. Results

and Discussion (10 marks) and e. Viva-voce (15 marks). This makes a total

of 50 marks to be given by the guiding teacher and by the external examiner

separately.

In the second semester, there will be one common paper Biostatistics and

Research Methodology and a practical Experimental Techniques in

Pharmaceutical Sciences for all the branches of specialization. At present

the syllabus for Experimental Techniques in Pharmaceutical Sciences has

been prepared for the main branches of specialization – namely

Pharmaceutical Chemistry/Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutics,

Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Analysis/Quality Assurance and

Pharmacology. Students of other branches of specialization like Clinical

Pharmacy, Medicinal Natural Products, Biopharmaceutics and

Pharmacokinetics etc. can choose to do the exercises prescribed for any one

of the above mentioned branches, preferably selecting something closest to

their branch of specialization. Each Branch of Specialization will also have

two Core subjects in the Branch of Specialization and two Electives that may

be selected from the List of Electives specified in the Syllabus.

4.2 M. Pharm. course structure

The M. Pharm. course is of 4 semesters of two years duration and follows

the newly introduced Credit Based Grading System (CBGS) of University

of Mumbai

Semester I (For All Branches of Study)

CIA: Continuous Internal Assessment; ESE: End Semester Examination;ST: Sessional Tests; IA: Internal Assessment, L: Lectures, I.L.: IntegratedLearning involving Tutorials, Group Discussions, Assignments, Field Work;P: Practicals, Lab. work, Project, C: Core, E: Elective, S: Self Study.

Total Credits: Semester I – 24

In Semester I learners of all Branches will take the above 5 subjects,irrespective of their area of specialization in M. Pharm. The Evaluation patternfor every subject will be 25 marks for Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA)and 75 marks for the End Semester Examination. The 25 marks for CIAwill be divided into 5 marks for Attendance and 5 marks for surprise quizzesand student-teacher interaction and 15 marks for a Periodic test heldmid-semester.

Every learner will deliver a Seminar. This will evaluated at the college levelby a Committee consisting of the Principal, and faculty of the Department inwhich the student will be doing his research work. After the conduct of theSeminar the marks will be forwarded by the college/institution to theUniversity.

2. About Dr. L. H. Hiranandani College of Pharmacy

The college was established in 2004 in the sprawling CHM campus as a

proud addition to the Institutes managed by Hyderabad Sind National

Collegiate Board. The college initially conducted the Bachelor of Pharmacy

(B. Pharm.) course. Over the years the college grew in strength, crossing

many milestones and soon becoming well known for its discipline and high

academic standards. With excellent infrastructure, committed and

knowledgeable faculty, hard working non-teaching staff and a conducive

environment for teaching – learning process as its corner stones, the college

built a strong undergraduate program. This reflected in consistently excellent

performance of students at the University and competitive examinations

and transpired in good placement and career progression of the students

graduating from the college. Bolstered by the success of the B. Pharm.

Program and with encouragement from the management, the college extended

itself to begin the Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm.) courses in 2010.

2.1 College Infrastructure

College Building:

College building is a G + three storey edifice with a clear division of

administrative, instructional, amenities and circulation areas adhering to

the norms laid down by the regulatory bodies. All areas are spacious, well

ventilated and constructed keeping smooth execution of teaching – learning

process in mind.

Library:

College library is replete with more than 5000 volumes covering 2000 plus

titles on various subjects like Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry,

Pharmaceutical Analysis, Biochemistry, Organic & Inorganic Chemistry,

Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, and other allied specialties such as

pharmaceutical statistics, pharmaceutical management and pharmaceutical

jurisprudence. Apart from print resources the library has subscribed to

nearly 100 international e-journals published by Science Direct and Bentham.

Keeping in mind the need of the students for perpetual access to text books,

the college library extends book bank facility and very soon has plans of

converting to digital library. The library is open for the students between

8.30 am to 6.00 pm on all working days.

Instructional facilities:-

The class rooms and laboratories, where the actual teaching is undertaken,

have been developed with special attention to smooth conduct of lectures

and practical assignments. The five class rooms are fitted with audio visual

teaching aids and comfortable seating arrangements for the students. The

college has 10 undergraduate and 4 postgraduate research laboratories with

the necessary equipment, instruments, glassware and quality chemicals.

Basic needs like ample ventilation, fire-fighting equipment and egress as

well as special requirments like sterile room with laminar air flow for

Pharmaceutics laboratory, fume chamber for organic chemistry and platform

mounted tube lights for Pharmacognosy and microbiology, have been met.

The college has provided generator back-up to ensure seam less lectures

and practicals.

• Fee to be paid -

The college charges fee as approved by Shikshan Shulka Samiti forthat academic year. In case the final fee has not been approved byShikshan Shulka Samiti till the date of admission, the college chargesthe interim fee decided by Shikshan Shulka Samiti and charges/refunds the difference between the final approved fee and interim feein due course of time.

Additionally students have to pay the examination fee and Universitycontributions as mandated by the University of Mumbai

Research facilities

Analytical Instrument Room:-

This facility is furnished with the most modern analytical instruments like

High Performance Liquid Chromatography, UV-Visible spectrophotometers,

Infra red spectrophotometer, Biochemical analyzer as well as basic analytical

devices like pH meters, colorimeters, conductometers, fluorimeter and flame

photometer. The facility shoulders responsibility for all analytical chemistry

work undertaken at the undergraduate and postgraduate research level.

Machine Room:-

The college machine room houses modern machines for lab/pilot level

processing, manufacturing and In Process Quality Control (IPQC) of

pharmaceutical formulations including Novel Drug Delivery Systems (NDDS)

Fluidized Bed Dryer (FBD), Spray Dryer, Tablet Press, Tablet Coating

machine, Peel adhesion tester, High Pressure homogenizer, High Speed

homogenizer, USP Dissolution test apparatus, Disintegration test apparatus,

friability and hardness tester are some of the equipment housed in the

machine room.

Animal house:-

The college has a well established CPCSEA registered facility for animal

breeding and experimentation. This facility is designed and maintained as

per CPCSEA norms with separate areas for rats, mice and rabbits.

Amenities and central facilities

The college computer center has 60 terminals with advanced configuration,

legal system and applications software. All the computers are connected

through LAN and provided with 2 mbps internet connection. The post

graduate section of the college also has wi-fi internet connectivity.

The college has a spacious air conditioned Seminar hall, with in-built audio-

visual aids, where most co-curricular activities like seminars, guest lectures,

debates and technical discourses are hosted.

Candidate should have valid and qualified GPAT score OR should

have Non-zero score in MAH-MPH-CET

Additionally, students applying under minority quota must belong to

Sindhi Linguistic Minority

• Procedure for admissions at Institute Level -The college invites applications for admissions by publishing

advertisements in leading newspapers and puts up schedule for

admission on the college notice board and website

Aspiring and eligible students can purchase application form and

prospectus from college office and submit duly filled application before

the last date for filling applications.

The college prepares a merit list on the basis of guidelines issued by

DTE for the academic year

Students are called in order of merit to attend the admission counseling

round(s) and offered admission

Students who are offered admission can confirm the same on payment

of applicable fee and submission of relevant documents

Exact date of beginning of First Year M. Pharm. Class is decided by

DTE and displayed on college notice board

Seats remaining vacant in the minority quota are surrendered to DTE

and made available for filling through centralized admission process.

Seats remaining vacant after the centralized admission process are

treated as Against CAP vacancies and are available for filling at the

The boys’ and girls’ common rooms are well furnished and ideal places for

students to spend whatever little free time they get from their demanding

academic schedule.

The sports centre houses indoor games like table tennis, carom boards,

chess as well as kits for cricket, foot ball and volley ball.

Students can avail the CHM campus sports ground for outdoor games and

the CHM canteen during the lunch breaks.

A beautiful medicinal garden has been developed and maintained within

the college campus. The garden has more than 50 medicinally important

plants.

2.2 Student Centered Activities:

Extra-curricular Activities:-

The college actively promotes sports and cultural activities and encouragesstudents to participate in inter-collegiate events. Sanskriti – the college annualfest, the college annual sports events and Pharma Beats – the college annualmagazine provide an ideal platform for students to hone and display theirtalents in performing arts and sports. Each year students participate in Rxfestival comprising of sports and cultural competitions and have won manyhonours for the college over the years. UDAAN - An extracurricular program

Co-curricular Activities:-

Regular academic schedule of the institute is liberally interspersed withseminars, workshop, guest lecturers etc. These are conducted to boost thetechnical knowledge of students and faculty and to give an edge to theirapproach towards life and career. The Institute has also conducted two AICTEsponsored National level Seminars. College also organizes Pharma Zeal - anintercollegiate working model competition every year.

Department of Life Long Learning and Extension (DLLE) Program: Thecollege has a very active DLLE unit which selects 150 students spanning thefour years of B. Pharm. course and allots extension project work. Thestudents benefit through increased social awareness and award of 10

additional marks.

4. About the Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm) course

The college conducts two year (four semester) course in the specializations

of Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Quality Assuranceand Pharmacology. The Master of Pharmacy course is approved by All

India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, Directorate of

Technical Education (DTE) and affiliated to University of Mumbai.

This helps the students in award of class. We are among the only few colleges

in University of Mumbai wherein all the projects were accepted by the

University of Mumbai and all the 150 students received the benefit of 10

extra grace marks in their last semester examination. Significantly, this helped

these students to upgrade to Distinction and First class.

Industry –Institute Partnership Cell:-

This cell is responsible for bridging the gap between academia and industry

by

● regularly arranging industrial visits,

● facilitating industrial training and internship for the students,

● arranging workshops for preparing the students in soft skills, interview

techniques as well as aptitude tests

● facilitating research projects and consultancy assignments from

industry

This cell also arranges campus interviews and has assisted recruitment of

the graduating students in companies like Rubicon Research, ReeCure,

Perrigo, Bharat Serum to name a few.

2.3 Faculty :

The teaching staff of the college is a potent blend of youth and experience,

uncompromising in their pedagogy yet understanding the emotional needs

of the students. Our teachers have very carefully integrated and instilled

theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the students while

simultaneously updating their own expertise by regularly attending technical

events and workshops. Their acumen in research is apparent from the

number of research articles that they publish in high impact pharmacy

research journals and also from the research projects undertaken by them.

3. About the Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) course

The Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) course of the college is a four year (8

semesters) course approved by All India Council for Technical Education

(AICTE), New Delhi, Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), MS, Pharmacy

Council of India (PCI), New Delhi and affiliated to University of Mumbai.

The annual intake is of 60 students.

3.1 Admission to the B. Pharm. Course:

Students seeking to pursue B. Pharm. can take admission either in

the First Year B. Pharm. or in Direct Second Year B. Pharm.

The college charges fee as approved by Shikshan Shulka Samiti for

that academic year. In case the final fee has not been approved by

Shikshan Shulka Samiti till the date of admission, the college charges

the interim fee decided by Shikshan Shulka Samiti and charges/

refunds the difference between the final approved fee and interim fee

in due course of time.

Additionally students have to pay the examination fee and University

contributions as mandated by the University of Mumbai.

declaration of result for First Year B. Pharm. the exact seat distribution

is displayed on the college notice board and on the college web site.

• Procedure for Admission

Admissions to S. Y. B. Pharm through lateral entry for the minority quota

seats and seats remaining vacant after CAP will be filled at the Institute level

as per the guidelines given by DTE. Aspiring candidates fulfilling the eligibility

criteria shall apply directly to the Principal, Dr. L. H. Hiranandani College of

Pharmacy, Ulhasnagar. Schedule for these admissions will be notified on

college notice board after receiving the directives from competent authority.

Eligibility Criteria: The candidate must be an Indian National and should

have passed Diploma Course in Pharmacy with at least 45% marks (40%

marks in case of candidates of Backward class categories and Physically

Handicapped belonging only to Maharashtra State) from an AICTE approved

Institution with English as the medium of instruction at Diploma level.

Additionally, students claiming admission in the minority quota should belong

to Sindhi Linguistic minority.

Rules regarding fee structure, cancellation of admission and part refund of

fees for the cancellation of admission secured against institute level seats

and vacant seats filled at the institute will be as per the guidelines of DTE.

3.2 Bachelor of Pharmacy Course Structure

The B. Pharm. course is of 8 semester duration and follows the newly

introduced Credit Based Grading System (CBGS) of University of

Mumbai

• Examination/Assessment and Grading -

Semester wise performance assessment of every registered learner is to be

carried out through various modes of examinations. These include Internal

Assessment and End Semester Examination. Normally weighting of Internal

Assessment and End Semester Examination is 30 and 70 percentage,

respectively, in both Theory Courses and Practicals. Internal Assessment

includes Mid-Term assessments i.e., Periodic Tests and Continuous mode

of evaluation.

• Work practice -

Every candidate shall be required to work for at least four weeks in a

pharmaceutical industry or government hospital at the end of Semester VI

of the course study and to submit a satisfactory report to the college.
