    Pereira is a city in Colombia, and the

    capital city of Risaralda. It is the most

    populous city in Coffee region and

    makes a big metropolis with two

    suburbs like Dosquebradas and La

    Virginia. The city is located in central-western part of the region, in the

    valley of river Otn in the Central

    Cordillera of the Andes.

    The city of Pereira is known as la

    querendona, trasnochadora y

    morena and the Otn pearl It is

    also well known as the city with no

    doors, the capital of joy and thecapital of coffee region in Colombia.

    In the Central part of the country

    where you can experience a big

    diversity of the weather, different kind

    of entertainment, wide gastronomical

    variety, and places to practice extreme

    sport; but the best of all is the very

    nice, friendly and welcoming people.

    There are many places to go and see in

    Pereira, like, Botanical Garden,

    Metacaa Zoo with more than 150

    species. For those who like the nature,

    just 15 minutes away from Pereira there

    is the town of Santa Rosa de Cabal,

    where you can find a lot of nature

    reservoirs, forests, villages and places

    to take thermal spa and hydro

    massages. On the route to Cauca River,

    tourists can find No Farm (La Granja

    de No), a place that represents the

    way of living in the coffee areas of the

    region which main characteristic is the

    sustainability. The National Park Tatam

    is an ideal place for adventures.

    It is a place with a small human

    presence a dense nature, the best

    way to explore it is with a guide.

    Also there is the Otn Lake, which

    is said to be located in the clouds,

    because of the snow of Ruiz y

    Santa Isabel Mountains which are

    located behind the lake. And in

    the end it is possible to go through

    the Sanctuary of Fauna and Flora

    Otn in Quimbaya.

    Since the early 80's in Pereira, the

    need to talk about developing plans

    in order to renew the area due to

    the deterioration of

    this sector. Through the figure

    of the municipal urban renewal led

    to the development of what is now

    Ciudad Victoria, with many public

    spaces, among which the Plaza

    de Bolvar, located between

    the 19th and 20th streets, and

    7th and 8th avenues, across from

    the Cathedral Nuestra Seora de la

    Pobreza, it is famous for

    its monument El Bolivar Desnudo

    (Naked Bolivar). The area is

    the main center of commercial and

    financial activities of the city as

    well as a meeting place for its

    habitants.

    Also Lucy Tejada Cultural Center,

    located in the place of

    the central gallery, where is

    located the Cultural

    Institute of Pereira, the band of

    musicians, the radio

    station "Remigio Antonio Caarte

    ", the Municipal Library, the

    Exhibition rooms and the

    Academy of

    History, music workshops, dances

    and theater,

    and shops related to cultural

    things. It was opened in 2005

    during the anniversary city fair.

    There are different types in

    educational field in Pereira.

    Technological University of Pereira

    offers undergraduate and graduate

    education located in a very calm and

    natural area where the Botanical

    Garden is located. There are more

    universities like Catholic University ofPereira, Universidad Libre, Andina

    University, Cooperative University of

    Colombia, Universidad Nacional a

    Distancia, University of Santo Tomas, la

    Universidad CEIPA, Antonio Nario

    University, Universidad Autnoma de

    las Amricas, there is also some

    educational institutes for workingtraining education like SENA. In

    February 2010 in the city has been

    opened first coffee CEDE (Center for

    Entrepreneurship and Business

    Development), where is possible to

    offer training for small-sized business.

    By planeMatecana International Airport, the largest and busiest airport in the region. Receives

    domestic flights Domestic non-stop flights go to Bogot, Medelln. There are non-stop

    flights to Madrid (Spain), Miami, New York, Quito and Guayaquil from the airport in Cali

    By car

    Pereira is about 6 hours from Bogota by car, in the Bogota-Melgar-Ibague-Armenia road.

    The trip is about 4 hours from Medelln and 3 hours from Cali (Pereira-Cartago-Buga-

    Cali).

    By busCurrently buses run in and out of Pereira's main station, Terminal de Transporte de

    Pereira. The station is clean and has standard amenities. Multiple bus companies have

    regular routes to destinations around the country. To get there from the airport you can

    take a taxi ride.
