As you well know, our asset class is showing its strength and depth in these current volatile market conditions.

The investor groups we serve continue to grow and diversify with Core teams launching Core+ products, and indeed vice versa. Some others are considering and have made moves into Credit, Technology and Emerging Markets products also.

Against this backdrop this biannual report covering January to June this year seeks to share visibility of the human capital flows across European infrastructure investment platforms.

Aligned with those franchise growth strategies we have seen some interesting promotions and succession planning take place, notably at First State Investments. Our congratulations to each of those highlighted here and the team at One Search look forward to supporting you further as we enter the 2021 hiring cycle.

Confidence and hiring across the equity teams has remained robust with activity at the Associate and Vice President levels leaving Citi, Morgan Stanley and Rothschild some 14 heads short.

Both John Laing and iCon have also been active these past few months, and no doubt Ben Loomes’ recent arrival as CEO at the former will herald a few more positive changes.

In Credit, many banks and fund teams have been subject to a freeze however Allianz GI, Edmond de Rothschild, MetLife, BNP Paribas and MUFG have added selectively - we highlight an impact related appointment we were pleased to run in the market.

The build out within Investor Relations continues apace with Oaktree, EQT and IFM adding to their teams at both senior and junior levels. This continued growth from last years record levels

does suggest placement agent business will be getting harder with each vintage - a few have been moving over!

Why was this opportunity of interest to you?

I come from a Magic Circle law firm where I specialised as an energy and infrastructure lawyer. I have advised a wide range of clients on transactions including many infrastructure funds. I have always wanted to be more involved on the commercial side of transactions and learn about the day-to-day realities of how large businesses operate. This opportunity is unique because it will allow me to develop both my legal and commercial skills. Why was this fund of interest to you?

The fund is not typical of other infrastructure funds in the market. This fund has a long-term and sustainable outlook towards its assets. The management team are fully aware of the value of energy and infrastructure assets for the communities that rely on those resources. That value is not simply monetary and the management team work tirelessly to

get the right balance between investor returns and the end user experience. Has it always been a career aspiration to transition into a fund opportunity? Yes, I have always wanted to deepen my understanding of the commercial side of transactions and how businesses work. As a lawyer you get a great overview of the technical details and learn how to execute projects, but you do not always get to see the full commercial side of a deal and how assets are managed thereafter. How did you find the process?

The process was relatively lengthy but really informative and detailed. The team are very personable, and you get the opportunity to meet with all of them, ensuring a well-rounded process and greater buy-in from both sides. While this takes time, it is worthwhile because you get a great insight into the work the team does.

Why was this opportunity of interest to you?

I liked this opportunity for several reasons. In the first place, I was attracted by AllianzGI’s reputation in the asset management industry. Secondly, I was particularly interested in the Impact Investment scope of the role. Finally, during the interviewing process I not only confirmed that there is a very professional and experienced team in the Alternatives Investments Group, but also that the Impact Investments Team would be an extremely good fit for me and a great opportunity for my career. Why was this fund of interest to you?

I liked three aspects of the fund: (i) the impact scope, (ii) multi-asset investment strategy, (iii) growth potential of the Impact Investment Strategy. Has it always been a career aspiration to transition into a fund opportunity? I wouldn’t say it has always been my aspiration. However, having spent several years on the sell side covering di�erent sectors in the credit space, I was ready to transition to an investment role which would give me the opportunity to develop new skills, whilst at the same time utilising my previous banking experience. How did you find the process? It was an extensive and intense process which included multiple stages. I was able to meet the majority of the Impact Investments and Infrastructure Debt teams, which was very helpful to understand the culture and work environment. Overall, I found the process well organized and e�icient.

Allianz Global Investors announced the launch of the Allianz Impact Investment Fund (AIIF), its first multi asset private market impact fund, in 2019. The fund aims to leverage the potential of the rapidly expanding impact investing sector, worth 502bn USD globally, by putting institutional investor capital to work in projects which generate measurable, positive impact, investing across equity and debt opportunities in sectors such as energy e�iciency, sustainable land use and agriculture. AllianzGI manages around EUR 6bn of impact investments, with a long track record in sustainable investing and ESG research.
