Gelungene ReminiszenzWaterfront nostalgia
Prägend für das Stadtbild von Purmerend ist die Kanalzone, deren
typisches Ambiente für die Stadterweiterung Vorbildcharakter hat.
In Anlehnung an historische Fabrikgebäude entwarfen die Architek-
ten einen Wohnblock mit markanten Pultdächern und maximaler
Verglasung zur Wasserseite. Die Fassadenöffnung ist dabei nicht
nur visuell gelungen, sondern dank öffenbarer Glas-Faltwände auch
individuell erlebbar.
The canal-side is typical for the Purmerend townscape; its characte-
ristic atmosphere provided the inspiration for the urban expansion
project. Calling to mind old factory buildings, architects designed
an apartment block with monopitch roof and maximum glazing in
the direction of the waterfront. The open façade is not only a visual
success; thanks to the folding glass doors it is also an experience
which can be individually enjoyed.

With this high-rise complex, Daniel Libeskind added a striking
silhouette to the Keppel Harbour skyline: the six towers twist
skywards around themselves, incorporating fascinating light
reflections as a mutable element of the entire architectural design.
Folding glass doors allow the living space to flow out onto the inte-
grated loggias and embrace the unique maritime panorama.

Das Architekturkonzept des Maritime Parc ist offensichtlich: Das
Bauwerk soll optisch nicht in Konkurrenz zur einmaligen Lage und
Aussicht stehen, sondern sich perfekt einfügen. Das moderne, klar
gegliederte Gebäude inszeniert durch die Betonung horizontaler
Linien den freien Blick auf den Hudson und die Metropole New York.
Glas-Faltwände öffnen die Räume hin zum umgebenden Liberty
State Park und zur unverwechselbaren Skyline des Big Apple.
The architectural concept of Maritime Park is obvious: the building
should not visually compete for one position and views, but fit per-
fectly. The modern, clearly structured building staged by emphasi-
zing horizontal lines offers a clear view over the Hudson River and

A luxury residential development has been created at one of
Dublin’s most prestigious addresses as part of the city’s sustainable
urban development strategy. The six buildings cleverly combine en-
vironmental considerations with design: wood, concrete, steel and
glass are used both in symbiotic harmony and effective contrast.

Auf der Grenze zwischen Rotterdam und dem Naturschutzgebiet
Hitland entstanden zwei prominente Wohntürme. Die charakteristi-
sche Fächerform der Gebäude ermöglicht winkelförmige, großzügig
verglaste Wohnräume mit freiem Blick auf Stadt und Land. Das
Wechselspiel aus unterschiedlichen Materialien betont die Vertikale
und verleiht dem Gebäude eine beeindruckende Präsenz.
Two imposing apartment blocks have been built directly where
Rotterdam meets the Hitland nature reserve. The unique fan shape
of the complex creates angular, generously glazed living spaces
offering an unhindered view of the city and the countryside. The
interplay of different materials emphasises the vertical axis and
lends the development an imposing presence.

Wie ein gläsernes Stadttor steht der 71 Meter hohe St. Jakob
Turm am Eingang Basels. Kaum ein rechter Winkel findet sich im
Grundriss des Gebäudes, dessen außergewöhnliche Geometrie
für wechselnde Ansichten aus allen Perspektiven sorgt. Der Turm
bietet Platz für exklusive Wohnungen, Büros und den Einzelhandel.
Alle Apartments sind mit großzügigen Fensterfronten und verglas-
ten Loggien ausgestattet.
Like a town gate made of glass, the St. Jakob Turm towers 71
metres above one of the feeder roads into Basel. The building’s
floor plan features very few right angles; its unusual geometry
ensures that the appearance of the complex changes with every
perspective. The tower block houses luxury residential, office and
service areas; all apartments are fitted with large windows and
glazed loggias.

Vier mehrgeschossige Gebäuderiegel bilden das 250 Wohneinhei-
ten umfassende Quartier im 10. Wiener Bezirk. Neben zahlreichen
Gemeinschaftsflächen wurden auch private Freiräume als Rück-
zugsorte inmitten der Stadt realisiert: Balkone, Patios und Dachter-
rassen bieten Außenräume mit einem Maximum an Licht und Luft.
Für transparenten Schutz auf den weit auskragenden Balkonen
sorgen flexible Verglasungen.
Four multi-storey blocks form the residential quarter featuring 250
units in Vienna’s tenth district. In addition to numerous communal
spaces, this urban location also features private areas into which
one can retreat: balconies, patios and roof terraces provide outdoor
living spaces offering a maximum of light and air. Flexible glazed
elements give the overhanging balconies transparent protection.

Kommunikative SyntheseCommunicative synthesis
Als Wohn- und Geschäftshaus konzipiert, verbinden die Cannery
Lofts Hafenflair mit der Dynamik innerstädtischen Lebens. Das
lichtdurchflutete Quartier mit Blick auf die Newport Bay schafft
kommunikative, öffentliche und private Außenräume: Den großflä-
chig verglasten Apartments sind weitläufige Freisitze vorgelagert,
die im milden Klima Kaliforniens für flexible Übergänge zwischen
drinnen und draußen sorgen.
Designed as a residential and commercial building, the Cannery
Lofts combine harbour flair with the dynamism of urban life. Floo-
ded with light, the building overlooking the Newport Bay creates
communicative, public and private outdoor spaces: in front of the
large glazed apartments are spacious outdoor seatings, providing
flexible transitions between indoors and outdoors in the mild Cali-
fornia climate.

Zeitgemäße ErgänzungContemporary addition
Mit dem Neubau des Wohn- und Geschäftshauses gelang das be-
hutsame Schließen einer Baulücke im denkmalgeschützten Umfeld.
Das Gebäude fügt sich harmonisch in die Häuserzeile ein und
akzentuiert sie durch markante Details: Aus der Fassade vorsprin-
gende, verglaste Loggien dienen als Klima- und Lärmpuffer und
erweitern den Wohnraum für den Großteil des Jahres.
The gap in this series of listed buildings has been sensitively filled
with the new build of a residential and office complex. The building
blends harmoniously into the row of houses and accentuates it
with striking details: overhanging glazed loggias serve as heat and
sound insulation buffers and provide extended living space for
much of the year.

Vor über 20 Jahren begann das Landgewinnungsprojekt nordwest-
lich der Amsterdamer City: Im Ijmeer entstehen als neuer Stadtteil
Ijburg ca. 18.000 Wohnungen. Block 18, ein fünfgeschossiger, massi-
ver Klinkerbau, überzeugt durch seine klare Architektur mit großzü-
giger Verglasung: Geschosshohe, flexible Glas-Faltwände öffnen die
Wohnungen zum Balkon mit Aussicht auf die Stadt und das Meer.
The land reclamation project north-west of Amsterdam City began
over 20 years ago: some 18,000 new apartments have been built
on the Ijmeer to create a new Ijburg district. Block 18, a five-storey
solid brick building, is impressive with its clean architectural lines
and generous glazing: ceiling-high, flexible folding glass doors open
up the apartments on the balcony side and offer views of the city
and the sea.

Außergewöhnlicher Wohnkomplex in exklusiver Lage: Fünf Türme
winden sich in elegantem, kurvenreichem Schwung in den Himmel
Singapurs. Fahrstühle und Treppen befinden sich in vorgelagerten,
elliptisch geformten Türmen, so dass pro Etage ein Apartment mit
atemberaubender 360-Grad-Aussicht entstand. Wie eine Spirale
umschließt eine Linie aus Balkonen die Wohntürme des im Sinne
nachhaltiger Architektur preisgekrönten Projektes.
An unusual residential complex in an exclusive location: five apart-
ment blocks wind an elegant curve across the Singapore skyline.
Elevators and stairwells are located in elliptical towers at the front
of the building, making it possible to create an apartment on each
floor with a breathtaking 360-degree view. In a spiral, a series of
balconies wraps around these award-winning apartment blocks,
which are recognised for the sustainability of their architecture.

Lebendiges WohnenLively living
Den gestalterischen Maßgaben eines städtebaulichen Projekts der
1950er Jahre folgend, entstand ein U-förmiger Wohnkomplex mit
großzügigem, gemeinschaftlich genutztem Innenhof. Während die
straßenseitig geschlossenen Fassaden abschirmen, erschließen
im Inneren großzügige Laubengänge die Apartments: Die frei
zugänglichen Bereiche werden als kommunikative nachbarschaftli-
che Treffpunkte genutzt, wobei flexible Glas-Faltwände geschützte
Privatzonen einbeziehen oder abgrenzen.
Following the stipulations of an urban design project of the 1950s,
a U-shaped residential complex with a large, communal courtyard
was developed. Whilst closed façades shield the building on the
streetside, spacious arcades open up the inside: the open access
areas are used as friendly neighbourhood meeting places, where
flexible folding glass doors allow residents to in- or exclude their
houses into these spaces.

tische Bauwerk 75 Meter in den Himmel. Gestaltet wie ein Triumph-
bogen, umfasst der Wohnkomplex Tasman Toren 221 Apartments
sowie Gemeinschafts- und Gewerbeflächen. Dem zukunftsorientier-
ten Architektur- und Wohnkonzept gelingt dabei durch inszenierte
Blickachsen die visuelle Verbindung mit dem Umland und der Stadt.
In an exposed position on the outskirts of Groningen, the futuristic
complex towers 75 metres into the sky. Shaped like a triumphal
arch, the Tasman Toren residential project features 221 apartments
as well as communal and commercial spaces. By creating visual
axes, the futuristic architectural and living concept harmonises
successfully with its surroundings and the town.

Das 20-geschossige Hochhaus im Zentrum Amsterdams ist das

The 20-storey apartment block in the centre of Amsterdam forms
the heart of a residential development which incorporates five
buildings, all of different heights. Its striking design feature is
a strictly symmetrical punched façade with recessed windows:
ceiling-high folding glass doors allow the living space to flow out
onto the integrated balconies – and into urban metropolitan life.

Der Wunsch nach innerstädtischen Wohnkonzepten für Senioren
wird mit der Residenz Aaseehof ideal bedient. Um trotz der Lage
an einer lärmbelasteten Straße ein Maximum an Licht und Trans-
parenz zu ermöglichen, wurden in den Loggien Glaselemente als
Schallschutzmaßnahme installiert. Helle, lichtdurchflutete Räume
garantieren ruhigen Balkongenuss mitten im Stadtleben.
The Aaseehof project ideally accommodates the need for urban
living concepts tailored to suit the elderly. To ensure a maximum of
light and transparency, regardless of the busy street location, the
loggias have been fitted with glass elements as sound insulation.

Die Apartments auf der Hafeninsel „Ostelijke Handelskade“ über-
zeugen mit überwältigender Aussicht und intelligenter Fassaden-
lösung: Wohnraum und Balkon trennt eine wärmegedämmte
Glas-Faltwand, die Außenhaut bildet eine transparente Verglasung.
Durch die Doppelfassade lässt sich flexibel regulieren, wie viel Luft
und Hafenatmosphäre man ins Haus holen möchte.
The apartments on “Ostelijke Handelskade” harbour island impress
with incredible views and an intelligent façade solution: a thermally
insulated folding glass door separates living space and balcony,
transparent glazing forms the outer skin. The “double-skin” façade
allows the occupants flexibility to regulate air flow and harbour
atmosphere into the apartment.

Gelungene SanierungSuccessful renovation
Im Rahmen der energetischen Optimierung erfolgte die Loggien-
und Fassadensanierung des 8- bis 9-geschossigen Wohngebäudes
aus den 70er Jahren. Maßgefertigte Module als Vorhangfassade
werten das Objekt doppelt auf: Das Gebäude erhält wirksamen
Schutz; die verglasten Loggien bescheren den Mietern ein Plus an
Wohnkomfort.
As part of a range of energy-saving measures, the loggias and
façades of this eight- and nine-storey apartment block dating from
the seventies have been given a facelift. Custom-made modules
mounted as a curtain wall add value to the project in two ways: the
building receives effective protection, while the glazed loggias offer
tenants enhanced living comfort.

The curved façade of glass and wood wraps around the building like
a second skin, lending the complex a soft, harmonious appearance.
An accessible corridor effectively creates a buffer zone: efficient
sound insulation and protection from the elements allows residents
to open living room windows without fear of disturbance.

Je nach Standort, Lichteinfall und Wetterlage schimmert die
gläserne Fassadenhaut der Wohntürme in einer anderen Farbnuan-
ce. Inmitten der Dockanlagen markieren sie den Strukturwandel in
dem von Hafennutzung geprägten Stadtteil Antwerpens. Die techni-
sche Anmutung der Gebäude steht dabei in reizvollem Kontrast zur
Hafenatmosphäre am Kattendijkdok. Freisitze mit transparentem
Windschutz sind geschickt in die Fassade integriert.
The high rise apartment blocks in the harbour district of Antwerp,
mark a structural change for this dockside development. Depending
on the ambient light and weather, the glazed surfaces shimmer in
varying colours providing an attractive contrast to the harbour at
Kattendijkdok. Open air seating and transparent glazing have been
cleverly incorporated into the façade design.

Monumentaler KontrastMonumental contrast
Zuvor als Wunde in der Landschaft empfunden, verwandelte sich
ein stillgelegter Steinbruch am Rande Ljubljanas in ein Wohnquar-
tier mit außergewöhnlichem Ambiente. Der Komplex mit 140 Apart-
ments inszeniert ein effektvolles Wechselspiel zwischen offenen
und geschlossenen Volumen: Transparent verglaste und farblich
abgesetzte Loggien im Wechsel mit schwarzen Fassadentafeln
prägen die markante Außenfassade.
Once regarded as a blot on the landscape, a disused quarry on the
outskirts of Ljubljana has been transformed into a housing develop-
ment with a unique atmosphere. The complex, which houses
140 apartments, plays effectively with the juxtaposition of open and
closed spaces: transparent glazed loggias provide colourful high-
lights against the black panels of the façade and offer a striking
visual appearance.

A new build, which is quite literally founded on, and leaning against
existing structures. In the eastern harbour quarter of Amsterdam,
the transformation and extension of historical warehouses to crea-
te loft-style residential properties has been realised to perfection.
The acclaimed Boston development is characterised by maximum
transparency and effective sound insulation.

Die Fassade des Lagerhauses versprüht nostalgischen Charme,
die aufgesetzten Geschosse repräsentieren urbanen Lifestyle von
heute. Der massive Sockel kontrastiert mit maximaler Transparenz:
Auf gesamter Breite zu öffnende Glas-Faltwände gewähren freien
Ausblick und erfüllen alle Anforderungen der exponierten Lage an
Stabilität, Dichtigkeit und Schallschutz.
The façade of the warehouse oozes nostalgic charm, while the
additional storeys embody today’s contemporary lifestyle. The solid
base contrasts with maximum transparency: folding glass doors
across its entire width ensure an unhindered view and fulfil all of
the exposed location’s requirements in terms of stability, airtight-
ness, and sound insulation.

Transparenter SchallschutzTransparent insulation
Das Großprojekt HafenCity begeistert mit städtebaulich wegweisen-
den Ideen, stellt aber besondere Anforderungen. Im Gebäudekom-
plex Kaiserkai wurden die Schallschutzauflagen von 30 dB durch
den Einsatz von Glas-Faltwänden als Raumteiler optimal erfüllt:
Die transparente Architektur wird nicht gestört, und die Bewohner
genießen Wintergartenatmosphäre zwischen Außenfassade und
Wohnraum.
With its ground-breaking urban development concept, the huge
HafenCity project is inspirational, however, particular specifications
had to be met. In the Kaiserkai building complex, the sound insula-
tion requirements of 30 dB were optimised by using folding glass
doors as partitions: the transparency of the architecture has been
maintained and occupants can enjoy a wintergarden atmosphere
between the outer façade and their living space.
