Pastor’s Corner “And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there
appeared to them tongues as of fire.” This description of the first Pentecost does not seem like what one would want if one was concerned
for the good of the building. A strong driving wind shaking your house from the inside is already cause for concern, and when you add
fire to the mix, you have a recipe for disaster.
The coming of the Holy Spirit in any generation is not beneficial if one’s concern is for the status quo, if one is content with the way
things are. A spirit that shakes things up, that sets them on fire, is not a spirit that will leave us in our lethargy.
This transformative presence is evident from the first lines of Scripture. We read about a world formless and void, the unshaped deep,
and the Spirit of God hovers over the waters. That presence of the Holy Spirit brings about something entirely new, entirely different.
God’s introduces change. If we recognize this we can ask what God wants to change in our lives. In Acts today, the Holy Spirit makes
it possible for us to talk to each other. Instead of being limited by foreign languages, the Holy Spirit brings us together.
Paul echoes this in our second reading today: “As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many,
are one body, so also Christ.” As you look toward what God is introducing into your life, the first place to look is toward your neighbor.
The Holy Spirit bringing us together is a profound change. We’re used to being concerned about ourselves, worried how things are for
us, putting our own priorities first. This power of God is so profound, it has the ability to lift our perspective to see and respond to
others, to be drawn into true connection with them.
Ask God for this strong driving wind to shake our house. We do not want to come through this Lent and Easter unchanged,
untransformed: dead. Rather, we want to experience the power of the Holy Spirit renewing our parish today. As we celebrate Pentecost,
we want to see our brothers and sisters and recognize they are the ones we are called to love and serve. “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the
hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love.”

suffering illnesses, infirmity, and those in need of our prayers…

the Jews, Jesus came and
stood in their midst and
said to them, “Peace be
with you.” When he had
said this, he showed them
his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they
saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you.
As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he
had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,
“Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are
forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.

lenguas como de fuego. Esta descripción del primer Pentecostés, no parece lo que uno querría si estuviera preocupado por el bien de la
edificación. Un fuerte viento sacudiendo su casa desde el interior ya es motivo de preocupación, y cuando se añade fuego a la mezcla,

La venida del Espíritu Santo en cualquier generación no es beneficiosa si la preocupación es por el status quo (normalidad), si uno está

nuestro letargo.
Esta presencia transformadora es evidente desde las primeras líneas de la Escritura. Leemos acerca de un mundo sin forma y vacío, las
profundidades sin forma, y el Espíritu de Dios se cierne sobre las aguas. Esa presencia del Espíritu Santo produce algo completamente
nuevo, completamente diferente.
Dios introduce el cambio. Si reconocemos esto podemos preguntar qué quiere cambiar Dios en nuestra vida. En Hechos la lectura del
dia de hoy, el Espíritu Santo nos permite hablarnos unos a otros. En lugar de estar limitados por lenguas extranjeras, el Espíritu Santo
nos une.
Pablo se hace eco de esto en nuestra segunda lectura de hoy: "Como un cuerpo es uno, aunque tiene muchas partes, todas las partes del
cuerpo, aunque muchas, son un solo cuerpo, así también Cristo." Al mirar hacia lo que Dios está introduciendo en su vida, el primer
lugar para mirar es hacia su prójimo.
El Espíritu Santo que nos une es un cambio profundo. Estamos acostumbrados a estar preocupados por nosotros mismos, preocupados
por cómo son las cosas para nosotros, poniendo nuestras propias prioridades en primer lugar. Este poder de Dios es tan profundo, que
tiene la capacidad de elevar nuestra perspectiva para ver y responder a los demás, para ser arrastrados a una verdadera conexión con
ellos.
Pídele a Dios este fuerte viento que impulsa para sacudir nuestra casa. No queremos pasar por esta Cuaresma y Pascua sin cambios, sin
transformar: muertos. Más bien, queremos experimentar el poder del Espíritu Santo renovando nuestra parroquia hoy. Al celebrar
Pentecostés, queremos ver a nuestros hermanos y hermanas y reconocer que son a los que estamos llamados a amar y a servir. "Ven,
Espíritu Santo, llena el corazón de tus fieles, y enciende en ellos el fuego de tu amor."

Class of 2020 Graduation On Wednesday, May 27 we gathered to honor and confer diplomas of Graduation for our 8th grade students. These students have worked
diligently to reach the finish line to success. This past trimester has tested their fortitude, prudence, commitment, industriousness and strength in a way that I’m sure they never imagined. Distance Learning We are finishing up the year STRONG! For the past 10 weeks our students have gone on many ZOOM adventures! Teachers have gone exploring to the seas, Antarctica, the mountains, and many National Parks. We have prayed together and provided materials to build up family devotions. We have become incredibly proficient in using Google Classroom in an attempt to remain in community. Student Council hosted a virtual Spirit Week, a virtual Talent Show, and a virtual Student Council Campaign. A big shout out to our parents who have worked so diligently and adeptly at helping their children transition to Distance Learning. A HUGE shout out to our teachers who have never stopped delivering instruction to our students!

Reading 1 Acts 2:1–11 When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they
were all in one place together. And suddenly there came
from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it
filled the entire house in which they were. Then there
appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and
came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled
with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different
tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.
Now there were devout Jews from every nation
under heaven staying in Jerusalem. At this sound, they
gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because
each one heard them speaking in his own language. They
were astounded, and in amazement they asked, “Are not
all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how
does each of us hear them in his native language? We are
Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, inhabitants of
Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya
near Cyrene, as well as travelers from Rome, both Jews
and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs, yet we hear
them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty acts of
God.”

Hch 2, 1–11 El día de Pentecostés, todos los discípulos estaban
reunidos en un mismo lugar. De repente se oyó un gran
ruido que venía del cielo, como cuando sopla un viento
fuerte, que resonó por toda la casa donde se encontraban.
Entonces aparecieron lenguas de fuego, que se
distribuyeron y se posaron sobre ellos; se llenaron todos
del Espíritu Santo y empezaron a hablar en otros idiomas,
según el Espíritu los inducía a expresarse.
En esos días había en Jerusalén judíos devotos, venidos
de todas partes del mundo. Al oír el ruido, acudieron en
masa y quedaron desconcertados, porque cada uno los oía
hablar en su propio idioma.
Atónitos y llenos de admiración, preguntaban: “¿No son
galileos, todos estos que están hablando? ¿Cómo, pues,
los oímos hablar en nuestra lengua nativa? Entre nosotros
hay medos, partos y elamitas; otros vivimos en
Mesopotamia, Judea, Capadocia, en el Ponto y en Asia,
en Frigia y en Panfilia, en Egipto o en la zona de Libia
que limita con Cirene. Algunos somos visitantes, venidos
de Roma, judíos y prosélitos; también hay cretenses y
árabes. Y sin embargo, cada quien los oye hablar de las
maravillas de Dios en su propia lengua”.
Evangelio Jn 20, 19–23 Al anochecer del día de la resurrección, estando
cerradas las puertas de la casa donde se hallaban los
discípulos, por miedo a los judíos, se presentó Jesús
en medio de ellos y les dijo: “La paz esté con
ustedes”. Dicho esto, les mostró las manos y el
costado.
Cuando los discípulos vieron al Señor, se llenaron de
alegría. De nuevo les dijo Jesús: “La paz esté con
ustedes. Como el Padre me ha enviado, así también
los envíos yo”.
Después de decir esto, sopló sobre ellos y les dijo:
“Reciban el Espíritu Santo. A los que les perdonen
los pecados, les quedarán perdonados; y a los que no
se los perdonen, les quedarán sin perdonar”.

CATECHESIS OF THE
GOOD SHEPERD
In the Atrium as you can imagine, the
atrium here at St. Isidore’s has been
very quiet over the past several weeks.
The children, instead of coming to our parish atrium to
listen to the Word of God and pray in community with each
other, have been coming together with their families at
home to do the same thing. We have encouraged each
family to create a prayer space in their homes where they
can gather, sing, reflect on God’s Word, and spend time
with our Lord. Please pray for our families as we continue
with this effort to bring a small part of the atrium into the
home, the domestic church, where the parents can exercise
their responsibility and privilege of being the primary
educators of their children in our faith.

En el Atrio como pueden imaginar, el atrio aquí en San Isidro ha estado muy tranquilo en las últimas semanas. Los niños, en lugar de venir a nuestro atrio parroquial para
escuchar la Palabra de Dios y orar en comunidad unos con otros, han estado viniendo juntos con sus familias en casa para hacer lo mismo. THE RICHNESS OF THE SPIRIT
Students, and most adults
recalling their school days, are
familiar with the phrase
“compare and contrast” that
shows up from time to time on
tests. Today we hear two
different accounts of the giving
of the Holy Spirit to the church.
Let’s contrast, then compare. Luke’s account from
Acts is filled with arresting details: the mighty wind
from heaven, the tongues of flame, the miracle of
different languages. John’s account seems timid:
fearful disciples, the wounded Christ, the expelling
of breath from his risen body, not from the sky. Our
literal, modern minds wonder which way it
happened; our noisy culture probably makes us
prefer the former. But if we compare the two, we find
that the dazzling richness of the Spirit fills both
accounts, for it is the very breath of the risen Christ,
ascended to the sky in Luke, that appears to his
disciples in John and sends his followers forth to
carry on his mission of forgiving sin and proclaiming

Pentecost Sunday
In the readings on Pentecost Sunday, the
Spirit is described as a driving wind and tongues of
fire. Knowing that the Holy Spirit is a Person of the
Trinity, we seem to be able to picture the Spirit only
in terms of what the Spirit does. In our second
reading, Paul tries to explain just that.
First, Paul says that we cannot know Jesus as
Lord without the Spirit. The Spirit is the way Jesus is
present today, so anyone who truly believes in Jesus
is guided by the Spirit. Second, he acknowledges that
the Spirit works in many ways. As examples, Paul
mentions there are many different gifts and services
in the church. He emphasizes that all these
differences come from one and the same God.
When we think of the strength of the Church,
we usually think of its unity, i.e., one baptism, one
faith, one Lord. But we also draw strength from the
diversity of gifts and services that people offer to
God. So look at the gifts of those around you, and
you may be able to see the Holy Spirit more clearly.
LA RIQUEZA DEL ESPÍRITU

El relato de Lucas en Hechos está lleno de detalles
impresionantes: el viento poderoso, llamas de fuego como
lenguas, el milagro de las diferentes lenguas. El relato de
Juan parece tímido: discípulos temerosos, el Cristo
llagado, el soplo de aliento viene de su cuerpo resucitado
y no del cielo. Mientras nuestras mentes modernas y

ruidosa cultura probablemente nos hará preferir el primer

Domingo de Pentecostés ABRIR LAS PUERTAS
Cuando ponemos el Evangelio en su contexto,
Juan 20 empieza con el sepulcro vacío y la aparición a
María Magdalena. Aún así, los discípulos estaban
asustados y confundidos. Se reunieron para reagruparse.
Cerraron la puerta con llave por miedo a los judíos, a
quienes habían vistos furiosos en una turba, quienes
acababan de crucificar a su amigo Jesús. Estos discípulos
tenían miedo de los judíos, pero también podían haberse
sentido culpables y confundidos por haber huido de Jesús
en la cruz, por esconderse, por tratar de protegerse ellos
mismos.
Ahora Jesús resucitado viene hacia ellos
diciéndoles: “la paz sea con ustedes”, mostrándoles sus
cicatrices, y saludándolos una vez más. Jesús está
moldeando algo muy poderoso aquí. Muchos de nosotros
odiamos ser vulnerables. Intentamos esconder nuestras
heridas y cicatrices. Intentamos protegernos y mostramos
a todos que todo está bien. Para poder ser sanados, para
recibir al Espíritu, para seguir con nuestras vidas,
necesitamos abrir nuestras puertas interiores.
Necesitamos dejar a Jesús entrar a nuestra casa, a nuestros
corazones, y en aquellas esquinas oscuras de nosotros.
Podría ser aterrador. Podría significar ir al Sacramento de
la Reconciliación o hablar con un director espiritual o
incluso con un terapeuta.
