Come Grow with Green Prairie Garden Feed the hungry while working in communi-ty with others! Metro Catholic Outreach is seeking volunteers to help with the Green Prairie Garden at Prairiewoods in Hiawatha.
This vegetable garden provides food for the MCO food pan-try as well as guests at Prairiewoods. We need more help this spring and summer. You can volunteer as an individual or family; we’ll try to accommodate your schedule. We can use your help one time, once a month, weekly, or more often as you are available. Tasks may in-clude planting, caring for and harvesting a variety of vegetables, or basic yard work like mowing, weeding, and watering. Laughter and lots of fresh air and sunshine are included! LAST WEEK: Food baskets were distributed to 270 people from 70 families.
WANTED: MCO Summer Interns Metro Catholic Out-reach, a food pantry in downtown Cedar Rapids, seeks self-motivated individuals for 10-15 hr/week internships May-
August (dates flexible). Focus will be the food pantry or community garden. Junior in college or equivalent age pre-ferred. A desire to work to help people in need or an affinity for plants, gardening, & produce is helpful. Should have great communication and organizational skills and an ability to work with a diverse group of volunteers and clientele. Financial compensation is not available, but college credit can be arranged. Intern will gain experience working with non-profit organizations, with leadership & team building, with communication, planning, & organization, or spend time outdoors learning organic and permaculture gardening techniques while working with our awesome, supportive volunteers. Knights of Columbus 909 Bags Tourna-ment - Sat June 9 starting at 10:00 a.m. 1620 E Ave NE. Cost: $40 per team; dou-ble elimination tournament; 100% of pro-ceeds from registration and the hourly 50/50 raffles will go to our usual charitable
causes (Discovery Living, local parishes etc. The last two years, the money has gone to St. Pat's and St. Matt's). There will be prizes for the top 3 teams overall. Bring lawn chairs. If it is raining, the Mass will be celebrated at St. Matthew’s, 2310 1st Ave NE. St. John's Cemetery Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Please bring your own lawn chair. In case of bad weather, Mass will be held at St. Ludmila Parish.

Xavier High School 2018 Booster Club Golf Outing The Xavier High School Booster Club invites you to participate in its annual Golf Outing at Elmcrest Country Club on Monday, June 18. The day will consist of a morn-ing shot-gun at 8 a.m. with lunch at Noon and an afternoon shot-gun at 1 p.m. with dinner/prizes following at approximately 6:30 p.m. Format for the outing is 4-person best shot and cost is $150 per golfer (includes lunch, driving range, golf cart, golf, flight prizes, dinner & reception). consecutive year of Czech School in Cedar Rapids. This is a unique opportunity for children ages 6 - 14+ to learn about Czech language, culture and heritage. Classes will be held each weekday morning from 8 – 11 a.m. at Wilson School from Monday, June 11 to Friday, July 13. We will conclude on Friday evening, July 13, with the traditional Final Program & Ice Cream Social, held in the St. Ludmila Social Hall at 7 p.m. Adult Czech Language 2018 Adult Czech language classes will be held on 5 consecutive Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in St. Wenceslaus Church facilities at 1224 5th St. S.E. Life Line Screening will offer their affordable, non-invasive and painless health screenings at St .Wenceslaus Church, Glovik Center on July 10. Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, which is a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arter-ies in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heartbeat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteo-porosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. The Rosary Gang– The Ro-sary Gang has acquired a large number of Fatima 100th Anni-versary Rosaries and copies of DeMontfort’s The Secret of the Rosary to send to parish mem-
