Dear Friends in Christ, I want to take this opportunity to share what we have planned for when we open the Church on Corpus Christi Sunday June 13th (Vigil) - 14th (Masses during the Day). These are some of the changes we are implementing: ¨ Social Distancing Protocols (6’ +): Every other pew will be left vacant - Limited capacity allowed in the church at one time (maximum 100) ¨ Involves Reservation / Sign up System: + This week, “How to Sign Up” will be shared on our website and through Flocknotes’ Parish Updates: to accommodate all who would like to attend Mass, sign up for one Mass every two weeks ( until the capacity allowed increases) + Confirmed reservations will receive the pew # and location - Right Side of Church: will park in the front lot & enter through the side front door byway of the ramp

(abiding by social distancing markers) - Left Side of Church: will park in the back lot & enter through the door by way of the ramp (abiding by social distancing markers) + Please do not arrive earlier than 30 minutes prior to the Mass start time + Wait in vehicle until the greeter/usher waves a white flag to enter + Leave an empty parking space between your car and the next + Greeter/usher will check your family name at the door & ask that you go directly to your reserved seat—we are to avoid excess movement or touching of surfaces ¨ The entire church and restrooms will be disinfected in between Masses: Required Modified Mass times: Saturday Vigil: 4:00 PM (English) and 6:30 PM (Spanish) Sunday: 9:00 AM & 4:00 PM (English) and 12:00 PM (Spanish) Monday & Friday: 7:30 AM (English) & Wednesday: 6:30 PM (Spanish) Livestream Masses will continue ¨ Everyone is asked to bring a face covering and gloves to wear into the church, and if you have it, hand sanitizer. Some hand sanitizer will be provided by the doors. [Gloves are to be removed when receiv-ing communion.] It is imperative for your protection and those around you, that if you are showing any flulike symp-toms, with or without fever you do not attend Mass. “Individuals age 65+ and persons with compromised health conditions, should continue to shelter-in-place’” SCD 5-20-20 “The decree issued by Bishop Soto on March 13, 2020, dispensing ALL the faithful from obligation to attend Sunday Mass ...remains in effect.” SCD 5-26-20 More information will be sent out this next week through Flocknotes’ Parish Updates and posted on our website. The Ascension of the Lord ~ Homily By Deacon Mark Van Hook

The Simplest of Things Our neighborhood supermarket recently did some upgrades to make sure that customers are safe from this COVID-19 thing. They put arrows on the floor for one-way traffic down the shopping aisles for social distancing. Put “X’s” on the floor showing where people are supposed to stand in the checkout line to keep that magic 6 foot spacing. Erected plexy glass shields at the checkout to protect customers and cashiers from contact. The store also installed some really nice ascetic stuff to enhance the grocery shopping experience.

In the produce department they installed a water mister to keep everything fresh. Just before it goes on, you hear the sound of distant thunder and then smell of fresh rain. When you approach the dairy section, you hear cows mooing and experience the scent of fresh cut hay. When you get to the egg case, you hear hens clucking and the air is filled with the wonderful aroma of bacon and eggs frying. But you know, I don’t buy toilet paper there anymore.

Yes, these are indeed different times I never recall anything like this before. Heck, I haven’t been able to get a haircut for a couple of months and actually starting to look like a Nazarian from biblical times

The connection with our church family seems to be distant. But you know what we’re very much connected in faith because of the common bond we have as Catholics. The early Church was persecuted there were thousands of martyrs and there have been challenges in every age, even to this very day. We survive because of our faith and it gets stronger and stronger.

So what I want you to do during this and every other livestreamed Mass, light up the messaging chat board. Share words and prayers of encourage-ment, hope, unity, and especially praise for our God . So here's a question for you something to ponder, it’s a bit of a head scratcher. When was the last time you saw God? I don’t know about you, but I haven’t ever actually seen God. So how do we know God’s presence?

It’s a pretty interesting question. But here’s the answer, we can know God’s presence through the simplest of things. Something as simple as love because God is love. Where there’s love, there’s God. God is present when we love one another and others see goodness in us, in the way we live our lives. When we live like this, when we love like this, we are dwelling in God and God is dwelling is us. Dwelling in us through the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives.

The evidence of God’s love is that He sent His Son into the world. After all, the reason for Jesus’ life, death and resurrection isn’t that we have to love God in return. God loves us freely and gave us His Son as proof. All we have to do is to accept His love. What else can be easier to do? And isn’t this really what love is?

The most important thing about God’s love isn’t that we’re commanded to love, God’s loves is always with us. We know this by the way Jesus left those who knew him. It was no ordinary parting, no ordinary farewell. When the earthly part of Jesus ministry drew to a close. When He ascended to His rightful place alongside of His Father. He left the gift of the Holy Spirit to remain with His disciples in spite of the parting so they wouldn’t be abandoned to fend for themselves. Jesus was with them after His ascension just as certainly as He had been before but in a different way and still sharing His love.

It was hard for the disciples to adjust to this different reality. After all, they had walked with Jesus, talked with Him, broken bread with him, shared their lives and their dreams. And now, He was gone from their sight. They thought that they had lost Him once in death, but their sadness was overcome by His rising to new life. They knew that His promise to remain with them through the Spirit would be kept, yet they still experienced the sad pangs of loss.

It was hard for them and it’s hard for us too. We don’t have the consolation of His earthly presence. We haven’t heard His voice or even touched His hand. We haven’t walked with Him and shared our food and drink with Him as the disciples did. We have to struggle with His promise, trusting His word believing in His Spirit and living in His risen life.

But our burden is our consolation. We know, and we believe, that we’ve heard His voice in our heart, We know His call, we follow His teaching and we believe His promise of life.

Jesus is clear that His parting was for a purpose and His disciples and yes, that includes you and me sharing in that promise. Here with a very real sense of the earthly presence of Jesus. What we do in His name with His power and authority through His Spirit; is to fully represent Jesus. By God’s grace we’re children of God and instruments of God in the world. Opening ourselves to the Holy Spirit allows God to work through us to help others see the Lord and to share His love with the world.

Now days, in this seemly new reality that we are living in it’s no easy task. How can we do this? It’s by doing the little things with love. Praying for those that have been stricken with illness. Supporting those that are strug-gling. Contributing to our Church with both our prayers and financial support. Being kind, and most of all mak-ing and keeping God our priority.

God sent his Son into the world to teach us how much He loves us. We know how much God’s loves us through Jesus. Jesus came to bear our sins, give us life, give us love for God, and love for each other. Giving us an example of unselfish living, without reservation, with no strings attached, and seeking nothing in return.

Cuando vivimos así, cuando amamos así, estamos morando en Dios y Dios mora en nosotros. Morando en nosotros a través de la presencia del Espíritu Santo en nuestras vidas.

La evidencia del amor de Dios es que envió a su Hijo al mundo. Después de todo, la razón de la vida, muerte y resurrección de Jesús no es que tengamos que amar a Dios a cambio. Dios nos ama libremente y nos dio a su Hijo como prueba. Todo lo que tenemos que hacer es aceptar su amor. ¿Qué más puede ser más fácil de hacer? ¿Y no es esto realmente lo que es el amor? Lo más importante sobre el amor de Dios no es que se nos mande amar, el amor de Dios siempre está con nosotros. Sabemos esto por la forma en que Jesús dejó a los que lo conocieron. No fue una despedida ordinaria, ni una despedida ordinaria. Cuando la parte terrenal del ministerio de Jesús llegó a su fin. Cuando ascendió a su lugar legítimo junto a su Padre. Él dejó el don del Espíritu Santo para permanecer con sus discípulos a pesar de la separación para que no fueran abandonados a valerse por sí mismos. Jesús estuvo con ellos después de su ascensión tan ciertamente como lo había estado antes, pero de una manera diferente y aún compartiendo su amor. Fue difícil para los discípulos adaptarse a esta realidad diferente. Después de todo, habían caminado con Jesús, habían hablado con Él, habían partido el pan con él, habían compartido sus vidas y sus sueños. Y ahora, se había ido de su vista. Sabemos y creemos que hemos escuchado su voz en nuestro corazón, conocemos su llamado, seguimos sus enseñanzas y creemos en su promesa de vida. Jesús tiene claro que su despedida fue para un propósito y sus discípulos y sí, eso incluye que tú y yo compartamos esa promesa. Aquí con un sentido muy real de la presencia terrenal de Jesús. Lo que hacemos en su nombre con su poder y au-toridad a través de su Espíritu; es representar completamente a Jesús. Por la gracia de Dios somos hijos de Dios e instrumentos de Dios en el mundo. Abrirnos al Espíritu Santo le permite a Dios trabajar a través de no-sotros para ayudar a otros a ver al Señor y compartir su amor con el mundo.

Hoy en día, en esta realidad aparentemente nueva en la que vivimos, no es tarea fácil. ¿Cómo podemos hacer esto? Es haciendo las pequeñas cosas con amor. Orando por aquellos que han sido afectados por la enferme-dad. Apoyando a los que están luchando. Contribuyendo a nuestra Iglesia con nuestras oraciones y apoyo financiero. Ser amable y, sobre todo, hacer y mantener a Dios como nuestra prioridad. Dios envió a su Hijo al mundo para enseñarnos cuánto nos ama. Sabemos cuánto nos ama Dios a través de Jesús. Jesús vino a cargar nuestros pecados, darnos vida, amarnos a Dios y amar los unos a los otros. Dándonos un ejemplo de vida desinteresada, sin reservas, sin condiciones y sin buscar nada a cambio.

Have you ever noticed how in the Scriptures men are always going up into the mountains to commune with the Lord? Yet in the scrip-tures we hardly ever hear of women going to the mountains, and we know why — right?

Because the women were too busy keeping life going; they couldn’t abandon babies, meals, homes, fires, gardens, and a thousand responsibilities to make the climb into the mountains!

When I was younger, I felt I was never “free” enough from my respon-sibilities, never having enough quiet time with God. But then I started to realize that women don’t climb mountains to commune with God, God comes to women.

Scripture proves this to be true that God comes to women where they are, when they are doing their ordinary, everyday work. He meets them at the well where they draw water for their families, in their homes, in their kitchens, in their gardens. He comes to them as they sit beside sickbeds, as they give birth, care for the elderly, and perform necessary mourning and burial rites.

Even at the empty tomb, Mary was the first to witness Christ’s resur-rection. She was there because she was doing the womanly chore of properly preparing Christ’s body for burial.

In these seemingly mundane and ordinary tasks, these women of the scriptures found themselves face to face with divinity.

So, if you ever start to bemoan the fact that you don’t have as much time to spend in the mountains with God as you would like, remem-ber, God comes to women. He knows where we are and the burdens we carry. He sees us, and if we open our eyes and our hearts, we will see Him, even in the most ordinary places and in the most ordinary things.

Let us hear your voice once again, that we may recognize in your beloved son our hope in inheriting eternal life. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

¿Alguna vez has notado cómo en las Escrituras los hombres siempre suben a las montañas para comunicarse con el Señor? Sin embargo, en las Escrituras casi nunca oímos hablar de mujeres que van a las montañas, y sabemos por qué, ¿verdad? Porque las mujeres estaban demasiado ocupadas manteniendo la vida; ¡no podían abandonar bebés, comidas, hogares, incendios, jardines y mil responsabilidades para escalar montañas! Cuando era más joven, sentía que nunca era lo suficientemente "libre" de mis responsabilidades, nunca tenía suficiente tiempo tranquilo con Dios. Pero luego comencé a darme cuenta de que las mujeres no es-calan montañas para comunicarse con Dios, Dios viene a las mujeres. Las Escrituras prueban que esto es cierto que Dios viene a las mujeres donde están, cuando están haciendo su trabajo ordinario y cotidiano. Las encuentra en el pozo donde sacan agua para sus familias, en sus hogares, en sus cocinas, en sus jardines. Él viene a ellas mientras se sientan al lado de camas de enfermos, mientras dan a luz, cuidan a los ancianos y realizan los ritos de duelo y entierro necesarios. Hello Brothers and Sisters in Christ, It would be difficult to overstate how challenging these days have been for all of us, as we face the various effects of the COVID-19 crisis on our families, jobs, and communities. Among the most dramatic ways we all have had to adjust to the coronavirus pandemic and control the spread of the virus is the suspension of Holy Mass and refraining from gathering in community. Please know that we priests miss our parishioners deeply! When we offer our private Masses each day, we are praying for your intentions. I hope you are praying a prayer of spiritual communion often, and that you are comforted by the constant presence of our Lord even when you cannot re-ceive him physically. In addition to the impact on our spiritual lives, the crisis is having significant financial and eco-nomic impacts on us all. Our inability to gather each week at Mass also means your parish is unable to receive your offertory gift there, and I cannot stress to you how vital this support is to your parish and the people who work there. Parish and parochial-school operating budgets depend on this reve-nue to pay employees and all the other monthly expenses associated with running the church. Most parishes don’t have large sums in reserve. Your continued support of your parish is crucial now.
