Holy Trinity
Weekly Collection
June 14, 2020
Hello everyone, I am glad to be joining you here in Fort Dodge. My name is Zach Jones and I just finished my fourth year in seminary for the diocese of Sioux City. I was born and raised in Okoboji and went to college in Sioux Falls at Augustana (yes, the Lutherans helped get me to seminary). I am the youngest of three kids with one brother and one sister. Both of my siblings are now married and my brother has two sons (being an uncle is the best). In high school I played several sports and was a part of the jazz band and then in college I ran track (I used to hurdle but I doubt if I could get over one now). I did my first two years of seminary in St. Louis at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary and my last two years have been in Rome at the North American College. I am a Minnesota sports fan (Twins, Vikings, Twolves) so I have been through many trials and sufferings, but there is always hope, I am really missing the MLB season right now. A few of my favorite saints are St. John Bosco and Bl. Karl Leisner (if you don't know who they are google them or I would love to tell you all
about them). I never really thought about the priesthood until late in high school when my pastor mentioned it to me and didn't really open myself to listen to Christ calling me until I was in college, but now my four years in formation have been a huge blessing and I really look forward to serving the diocese as a priest.
"Hello friends of Holy Trinity Parish, my name is Tommy Kollasch and I am a first-year seminarian for the Sioux City Diocese. I come from Bancroft, Iowa, and I am a proud alumnus of Bishop Garrigan High School. After graduating from there, I at-tended the University of Iowa for two years where I became very involved with the Newman Catholic Student Center and the Fellowship of Catholic University Stu-dents as a campus missionary disciple. My proudest accomplishment during my time at the University of Iowa was winning the Billiards Intramural tournament in back to back years. I love long-distance running, playing hackysack, going golfing, and listening to vinyl records on my turntable. My newest hobbies are woodworking and bird watching. My favorite saint is John the Baptist because my home parish in Bancroft is dedicated to him and I love the Gospel story of him leaping for joy at the presence of Jesus while he was still in Elizabeth's womb.
Thank you all for your kind and welcoming words on social media so far. I am super excited to be of service here in Fort Dodge for this summer, and I look forward to meeting many of you."
Hi everyone! For those of you who I haven’t met yet, my name is Peter Pham. I am from Vietnam, but I am studying for Sioux City, Iowa. I finished philosophy study at Conception Seminary College in western Missouri last year, and I have finished my first year of theology at Kenrick – Glennon Seminary. This summer, I am assigned at your Parish this year, and I am blessed and delighted to be here with you.
I first thought of being a priest when I was in middle school. However, instead of do-ing God’s will, I tried to do what I wanted. After graduating from Universities, I taught in a college for nine years. I really enjoyed teaching, but I soon recognized that it was not what God wanted me to do for my whole life. I took a spiritual exercise re-treat, and felt that God was calling me to priesthood. Thus, I applied for priestly for-mation at the seminary. My inspired saints are Sts. Peter and John Paul II.
At Seminary we need to embrace fully the Priestly Formation Program that is centered on Four Pillars: hu-man, spiritual, intellectual and pastoral. For a High School student who wants to become a seminarian, he needs to take eight years of formation (including four years studying philosophy and four years studying the-ology.) For Students who already have a college Decree, formation will take six years (two years for philoso-phy and four years for theology). I would like you to pray and follow God’s will if He calls you to priesthood.
I like would like to drink black coffee and play ping pong with any of you.
Meet the Seminarians!
This summer we will have four seminarians with us learning how a parish works. Here are the three that be-
gan this week. Next week will introduce Jack, who will be here soon. Please welcome them when you see
them!
