Penkside Issue 36 - August 2014 Congratulations are in order as we have been delivering this community newsletter to the Penkside area for the past 3 years. We could never have imagined that it would last this long, but we now see how it is being more and more accepted by the community. I would ask anyone who has any snippet of information that could be news to others to get in touch and have it printed in the newsletter. It may be something that is happening in your street or an event you are organising or a small home based business you want to tell everyone about. This is your community newsletter and we want it to reflect your views. Once again a big thank you for your continued support and heres to the next 3 years. Our annual community event, Have a Field Daywas held on Saturday 9th August and what a great day it was too. The weather stayed fine and crowds of local people came out into Meadow Road Park to support the event. A big thank you to everyone who supported us on the day. www.penkside.btck.co.uk email [email protected]

Meadowcroft Park Estate Update An open meeting was held on Thursday 31 July 2014 involving representatives from Stafford Borough Council, Staffordshire County Council, Persimmon Homes, Severn Trent Water and Amey with around 125 residents attending. The key points from the meeting are:-

Open spaces will be adopted by September 2014 at which point Stafford Borough Council will be responsible for upkeep and maintenance

Work on Tarragona Drive will be completed by mid-August 2014; Landstone Road will then be closed and work will commence there

Tarragona Drive and the portion of road to the left of the roundabout (as you come onto the estate) will be reinstated

A two-way traffic flow will be put in place into/out of Tarragona Drive (with no requirement for traffic lights) with appropriate calming measures to ensure safety

Persimmon Homes will start carrying out remedial works to the highways on the rest of the estate mid-August 2014

The estate will be placed on a 6-month maintenance contract

Adoption of the highways by the County Council will take place when all works have been completed in March 2015

Barnardo’s and Staffordshire County Council have created a new service aimed at supporting the emotional well being of young people between the ages of eleven and eighteen – www.upsideonline.co.uk This is in response to the number of young people experiencing issues such as bullying, cyber bullying, eating disorders, bereavement and loss, family separation, fear and worries, anger management etc.

Young people can use the anonymous and confidential service in three ways. They can log on to Upside to gain access to fact sheets or be signposted to other websites. They can also email in specific questions and have a reply with 48 hours. Alternatively, they can access a live chat room between the hours of 6.00pm and 11.00pm. Penkside in the Past Radford Bank is known to most people and these photos show how much it has changed over the years. The old Trumpet Inn, sited next to the canal ,where now stands the Radford Bank Pub, was demolished to make way for widening of

the road. I think I prefer it as it was but they would say that’s progress. The white walls are where the canal goes under the road. If you have any old photos of the Penkside area, that you could share with us, then please get in touch. email [email protected] or contact Stewart on 01785 356112 or mobile 07738 729889

Working with the Community

SUMMER WORDSEARCH

A big thank you

to everyone who supported our Big Cuppa event on Tuesday 24th June

We raised £31.00 to be donated to Katharine House Hospice. Every little helps for such a worthwhile cause.

Kind Donation from B & Q

B & Q Stafford have kindly donated a few flowers for our community garden situated in Meadow Road Park. More work is being planned for this area with more flower beds being introduced over the next few months.

Re-cycle your old Inkjet printer cartridges and mobile phones.

We are able to take any old inkjet printer cartridges or toner cartridges plus all those old mobile phones knocking around in your drawers at home. Sort

them out and give us a call on 01785 356112 or 07738 729889 and we can collect them from you.
