SCIENTIFIC NAME

The scientific name for a penguin is a Spheniscidae.

HABITAT Penguin’s live in a cold and snowy

environment. They tend to stay near rivers that are

rich in the nutrients that are in need of.

DIET On a penguin’s diet, they eat krill,

squid, and a variety of fish. How they catch their prey is with their

bills and as soon as that catch their prey, they swallow it hole.

Physical Description

One of the most largest penguins is the emperor penguin. The emperor penguin is standing at 1.1 m ( 3.7ft) and weighing 27 to 41 kg ( 60- 90lb.).The smallest of the penguins is the fairy penguin, standing just 41 cm ( 16in) and weighing about 1 kg ( 2.2 lb.).

BREEDING INFORMATION

Most penguin’s lay two eggs in a clutch although the two largest species, the Emperor and the king penguin’s lay only one. Penguin’s eggs are smaller than any other bird.

SPECIAL BEHAVIORS

Penguins may swim and feed in groups , but some maybe solitary when diving for food. During the breeding seas on penguins come ashore and nest in huge colonies called rookies.

Interesting Facts

The name ‘’Penguin’’ was originally given to a bird that is now called the Great Auk. Under the Endangered Species Act, the penguin which is most at risk is the Galapagos penguin.
