PEND OREILLE COUNTYDevelopmental Disabilities Advisory Council Meeting Minutes November 5, 2018 @ 105 South Garden Avenue Newport, WA 99156
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by David Odell at 12:04 p.m. ROLL CALL AND INTRODUCTIONS: Board Members: ☒Mary Sterling ☐Denise Masters ☐Ramona Mateer☐Renee Masters ☒Judy Malby ☒David OdellSupport: Annabelle Payne, Kelly Alliger, Jim Chermak, Jennifer Stout, Rob Thompson Public: Ty Lingo (Ability), Paul Voss (Compass), Keelee McGhee, Susan Eggleston, Amy Eggleston, Steve and Angela Moore – all public attendees left by 1:30pm Excused: Renee Masters, Denise Masters Unexcused: Ramona Mateer
Review of Minutes from May and August: Minutes were reviewed, Judy approved, and David seconded the motion.
NORTH COUNTY MEETING: Cusick is mid-way Mary suggested twice a year North and twice a year in Newport. David feels we need to have the meeting at least once in Metaline to get the word out. Ione Community Center – usually no charge for non-profits
o Try here first and Cutter as second choice It was decided to hold a picnic in the park on May 20th. Carpool from Newport
MEMBER REAPPOINTMENTS: Mary Sterling said she couldn’t commit to 3 years, but could do a year. Check with current members to confirm their interest. New member interest discussed – potential new members would like an Orientation/Interest Packet.
o Information they would like included: What does the Board do? How long has the Board existed? How does the Board serve the community? How do people contribute? What are the community needs? What are the Board members roles?
o Could it be available at the next meeting?
REPORT OUTS: DDA
o Two new case managers – Shannon Kaiser and Kevin Youngo Case Managers coordinate services within the administration and coordinate individual providers for
personal care and respite.o Birth to 3-years – most from here are managed through Spokane.
After age-out they need to reapply for services.o Community member, Susan Eggleston, commented on the need and lack of services. Her family is
wanting to open a Community Center for respite services, high school self-care classes, etc. Finding an affordable location is difficult since it must be a dedicated space.
POCCSo We represent the county.o With Jim retiring, we are looking at subcontracting both individual employment and community
inclusion. Ability Employment Services – Ty Lingo
Currently supporting employment for Spokane, Pend Oreille, and Stevens Counties.o Provide DVR services for both Pend Oreille and Stevens Counties – Linda White
Experienced staff with little to no turn over Approved DVR provider in all counties east of the Cascades WOTC credits for employers Haven’t provided community inclusion since Career Path days. Unsubsidized employment/job coaching Minimum caseloads?? Pre-ETS
Compass Career Solutions – Paul Voss Provide supportive employment and community inclusion Heavy focus on rural communities Offer classes – day respite Don’t have minimums Video presentations on their website – Tonya at karaoke Build relationships/friendships in community Would look at vans for transportation No DVR at this time Community Protection Services Have staff that will do day respite in Newport – Jackie
o Subcontracting would bring DVR services hereo Need to have both vendors complete RFP type applications asapo Would like to meet the staff that would be working with us.
