BACKGROUND STUFF: Since graduating from Camberwell

College with a First Class Honours degree in Graphic Design, I

have been specialising in multimedia and web work.

From August 1996 to October 1997, I was responsible for the

design of the Snickers Megakick football website which has

been acknowledged as one of the most successful web sites

ever produced in Europe. The site won many on-line awards and

my work on this project was featured in the 1997 D&AD Annual.

Since then, I have designed sites for major clients such as

NCR, Virgin Radio, TFiFriday, Capital Radio, XFM, zoggle.com,

BBC, Direct Connection, Morgan Stanley, I Have Moved and

Zenith Films.

My web design consultancy services have been used by the

BBC, British Council, firstlook.com, InForm, WebMedia, 4i,

 Axon, Clickmusic, Hyperinteractive, amongst others.

I have worked extensively in the US, working as creative director

for New York-based community site, zoggle.com, and San

Francisco multimedia site, firstlook.com.

In June 2000, I was on the cover of Internet Magazine as one of

the '50 most influential people in the UK web industry'.

Other work includes book covers, music CD illustrations ( 'Acid

City' on Sony) and art directing CD-Rom presentations. I have

recently been approached by a major art publisher to author a

web design book, with a tentative release date of May 2001.

PROFESSIONAL STUFF: I've been fortunate enough to have

been asked to judge on several international design awards,

including the London International Advertising Awards, the 1999

D&AD Interactive Design Awards and the first ever BBC2

 Awards, 2000.

I have lectured at Brighton Univer sity for two years and regularly

chair web-related discussion forums at institutes such as the

ICA, the University of Exeter, Camberwell School of Art and

South Bank University. I was also the focus of a 1999 BBC2Education program about webskil ls.

I write for the UK's biggest Net magazine, Internet Magazine (as

their resident 'Web Expert' and software reviewer) and have

contributed to online magazines and mainstream publications

such as the New Statesman, Daily Telegraph and Independent.

Photography is very important to both my commercial and

personal work and examples of my personal work may be seen

here.

URBAN75 EZINE: The urban75 website is my own personalproject which has been on-line for five years. Initially starting life

as a paper based venture, I quickly learnt that the internet could

provide a quicker, cheaper and more efficient means of

publishing my words and images with the potential to reach a

far wider readership.

In April and May 2000 it was listed by top9.com as the most

popular lifestyle/culture website on the web, attracting over half

a million unique users per month. Despite many lucrative offers,

urban75 remains s taunchly non commercial and carries no

advertising or product endorsements.

urban75 has received a huge amount of press attention with

both national and international reviews in MTV, Radio One, ITV,

BBC, Channel Four, US Newsweek, The Times, Time Out,

Billboard, Guardian, Observer etc, while mainstream media like

the Electronic Telegraph regularly link to the news section for

alternative reports on underground events. A full listing of

urban75's press can be seen here.

In March 1999 I was flown out to Chicago to appear on the

national 'Jenny Jones Show' and talk about urban75 - which was

somewhat bizarre!

The site has won many on-line and magazine awards and has

been described as "the most relevant, innovative site of the

nineties"  by Internet Magazine and "probably the finest and

best-designed independent site in Britain" by the Daily

Telegraph.

In 2010 the ‘pen picture’ on jonathanbishop.com of me read as follows:

Jonathan Bishop is a leading public figure in the socio-legal, info-scientific and economic

solutions to issues affecting techno-cultural communities, both organic and virtual. A

pioneer in educational technology and online community development, the achievements

of Jonathan Bishop includes the Circle of Friends social networking technology and the

PARLE e-learning system. He is committed to making further significant contributions to

society

One might argue that using the word ‘leading’ is puffery. This is the case, as it is called a ‘mere

puff ’. It is perfectly legal to use words like ‘leading’ as it is generally accepted they are used for

marketing purposes only.

Pioneer is also a technical term, simply used to refer to someone who has taken a particular area

forward. Anyone whose degree dissertation finds out something new is a pioneer. Some might argue

that to be a pioneer others have to following your work. So equally a degree dissertation with a

new finding that is cited could be pioneering.

I was described by Mike Slocombe, who runs the Urban75.net forum as the ‘deeply irritating,

 puffed up, Jonathan Bishop.’

In 2010, the profile of me on jonathanbishop.com was:

You have reached the Official Website of Jonathan Bishop. I am an information technology

executive, writer and researcher. I am an IT polymath, in that I have a number of degrees and

publications in a number of diverse areas relating to the study of multimedia and information

systems.

I make it my purpose to seek out new ways to make society fairer through application of

knowledge in the fields of information technology, the arts, law and sciences. I have a

number of specific and competences as a result of doing so.

My website serves first and foremost to help people form an accurate 'truth' about me,

through providing access to nearly everything I have written or communicated in durable

form since gaining my first degree in 2002. The different sections serve the following

purposes in order to show how my different beliefs have changed over time:

My weblog and blog aim to reconcile my personal beliefs with all the others.

My letters and op-eds aim to create debate in the public sphere around these discussions

My notice board and policies aim to present my best reconciliation that supports my values

and beliefs while recognising and allowing others as well.

My publications aim to present a theoretical grounding of my understanding of the world,

and evidence to inform the development of my ever changing and developing set of beliefs.
