Seminars and Events

PEMC Seminar Series

The PEMC Group holds regular seminars, providing researchers, students and visitors with an

opportunity to share their work.

10th April 2018 - a recent seminar was held in advance of PEMD 2018 and the following

presentations were given:

• Fatma Khera: New modulation scheme for bidirectional quasi z-source modular multilevel

converters

• Ahmed Fares: Optimising the structure of a cascaded modular battery system for enhancing

the performance of battery packs

• Linglin Chen: Model predictive control for Active-Bridge-Active-Clamp (ABAC) converter

PGR Showcase

Every year the Faculty of Engineering holds a Post Graduate Showcase, where PhD students from all

years give presentations or produce posters about their work. The Showcase highlights and rewards

the best research across the Faculty.

On 27th March The PEMC Group held an internal competition to choose the best presentations to

put forward to the Showcase. Huge thanks to everyone who took part and to the judges for choosing

the winners. The winners took part in the overall Faculty Showcase in May. Results from the internal

PEMC competition were:

Marc Grenville-Cleave Memorial Lecture

Early in 2018, a second year Engineering student, Marc Grenville-Cleave, sadly died. In his memory,

the Department established the Marc Grenville-Cleave Memorial Lecture. The inaugural lecture took

place on 1st May and the presentation, “How to Program a Quantum Computer”, was given by

Robert Smith, a world-leading computer programmer, who had been a good friend and mentor to

Marc for a number of years. The lecture was attended by over 200 guests, including members of the

PEMC Research Group.

Presentations by Visitors

We welcome national and international visitors to the group. The following visitors recently gave

presentations to the PEMC Group about their research:

20th April 2018 - Dr Alecksey Anuchin, Moscow Power Engineering Institute. "Self-sensing control of

the homopolar synchronous motor traction drives"
