Baby Bottle Blessing 2021 … Sunrise Women's Clinic
This fundraiser will run through June 20 and the display is located on the information desk in the commons area here at Pella. If you haven’t picked up a bottle there is still time. Your support gives the patients a safe, welcoming place to go for a pregnancy test, where they can find someone who cares and is willing to listen, who opens up new options for the patients to consider and offers to pray with them before they leave. Remember, please return your bottles by Sunday, June 20.

Hello, Sadie here this month …
I’m just happy to be here. Lots of you probably know that I wasn’t feeling well over the winter, and Eric and Audrey took me to the Vet doctor. They checked me out and said that I had something called diabetes. I don’t know what that is except that I now have to eat the exact same kind and amount of food twice a day and get stuck with a needle full of something after I eat. It doesn’t hurt, except when Eric does it sometimes … he’s not very good at it. Anyway, I don’t get any treats or table scraps anymore. That’s the bad part. Eric and Audrey tell me if they didn’t do this that I would die. So I live with it. As a matter of fact, I feel really a lot better. I can run and play and chase tennis balls and trot through the fields like I never used to be able to do!
I’ve heard them talk though. Apparently, all this special treatment costs some money and they have to do this every day at the same time or I could die, or at least feel very bad. I kind of feel bad that I’m such a bother and a burden on them. But, then they talk to me. I don’t really understand everything they say, but they tell me that they love me and that I’m special, so the little extra money and the time is no burden because they love me. That makes me feel very special. I don’t know what this word “love” means, but I know it makes me feel wanted and protected and special, so I think I love them back.
I consider myself a very lucky dog to have people that take such good care of me just because of this thing called love. I wonder if people treat each other the same way too? I hear talk that there are people who think they are a burden on others and that it would be better to just die. Some, I hear, have to live in places that people can take care of them and it can cost a lot of money. I hear some of these people who need this care worry about costs and if it isn’t a waste of money. I sure hope they all have people, like mine, who remind them how special they are and they are worth every penny it takes to make them comfortable. That would be a wonderful thing, wouldn’t it?
‘Til next time,
Sadie
May 11, 2021 Council Minutes Summary
The meeting was called to order by Bill Nankivel, president.
The minutes from the April meeting were approved as read.
Lance Averett, treasurer, gave the financial report. General fund income was $30,905.59 and expenses were $19,400.50. The Set Free/Future Repairs Fund currently has $28,038.10.
Committee Reports:
Christian Education - Kaci Dean noted that Senior Recognition Sunday is May 16 with approximately 14 High School Seniors being recognized.
Property and Grounds - David Christensen reported that Prairie Electric has checked out the lights in the Fellowship Hall and a new module has been ordered. All the outlets in the Sanctuary are working now. The lawns have been sprayed and the Methodist youth will resume caring for the south parsonage lawn. The north parsonage has had a leak in the upstairs bathroom which drained down into the downstairs bathroom. This has caused mold and water damage; the sheet rock will need to be replaced. RestorX will handle the dry-out, and then the sheet rock can be installed.
Pella Pantry - Cindy Irigoin reported that no meeting has been held, however volunteers are really needed for the fair this year.
Worship Committee - Ruthann Hillesland noted the meetings will move to the beginning of the month so all members can be present. (Next meeting - July 5 at 5:30 p.m.)
OLD BUSINESS - None.
NEW BUSINESS - Communion - Pastor has been getting inquiries about returning to weekly communion from members. Council agrees Pella Lutheran Church can resume weekly communion in June.
In closing the Lord’s Prayer was recited.
Next Council meeting will be on Tuesday, June 8 at 7:00 p.m.

Pella Lutheran Ambassador
Whew! May was a busy month. Pella started the month with eight young people affirming their baptism. The very next week Pella blessed more than 250 quilts which were boxed and ready for shipping the following Tuesday to Lutheran World Relief. Without slowing down, the next Sunday 11 High School Seniors were given a
blessing along with a quilt and study Bible. These have all been grand celebrations, and — after 14 months of the pandemic — it has been exciting for the sanctuary to feel full for worship. Familiar faces and new faces have gathered for these celebrations; gathered being the opportune word.
Despite popular thought, our faith is more communal than individual. We know this by the teaching of Jesus. When Jesus taught us to pray using the Lord’s Prayer, he taught “Our Father.” When we profess our faith with the words of the Nicene Creed we begin with the all-important “we.” Finally, we hear in 1 Corinthians 11:33 “so then, my brothers and sisters, when you come together to eat (referring to the Lord’s supper), wait for one another.” This faith God gives us is all about coming together to celebrate what God gives and is doing for us.
Having a community to celebrate all the milestones has been special. It is marvelous so many have worshiped as part of these celebrations. Remember, though, every worship is a celebration. Each Sunday we celebrate what Jesus has accomplished for us on the cross and through the resurrection. Each worship service is a time to celebrate God being with us in the week to come.
Beginning in June we will resume celebrating God’s feast at the Lord’s table every time we gather. After all, worship should be considered a celebration which would encourage the whole community to turn out and proclaim “Christ is risen!” God desires to hear all of the voices in unity giving thanks and praise.
Now that Pella’s milestone celebrations (or “cake season”) are over, I hope that you will continue to celebrate in weekly worship. It is good to see you and hear our voices together again. It is how God calls us to hear the Good News and grow in faith; the many as one.
In Christ,
Pastor Audrey
