AMBASSADORS WANTED Donna Issenmann,

239.431.6524 [email protected]

The Pelican Bay Women’s League is an organization specifically founded to enhance the quality of life for women residents of Pelican Bay. We provide a way for women to come together to enjoy common interests, be entertained or educated. Critical to our mission is the process of finding each other. Toward that end, we have created PBWL Ambassadors. It is our hope that the a member will choose to represent the League in her community, seeking out and welcoming new members, providing information on upcoming events and generally being the League’s “Welcome Wagon”. Over the years, we’ve been so pleased to see members effectively step into this role and really enjoy the experience of connecting with others. This group of women volunteers is well supported in their tasks by Board of Directors in general and, more specifically, an Ambassador Coordinator. With the advent of our recently entering the computer age with much success, we’ve found that some we’d thought were serving in this capacity had actually left PB or retired to do other things…and we weren’t aware. We then began a thorough check to be sure that all members’ communities were being fully represented in the League. Our new list of communities, therefore, became a bit more impressive than we had imagined.

I invite you to join us and become one of a group of welcoming women who let other Pelican Bay women know what the League can contribute to their experience here in the bay

The following communities need Ambassadors:

Avalon Barrington Club Bay Villas Brighton Chanteclair Contessa Crescent Glenview Grand Bay Heron Hyde Park Jamestown L’Ambiance Laurel Oaks Mansion Las Palmas Pelican Bay Woods Pointe 2 Serendipity St. Maarten Stratford Villas of Pelican Bay Valencia If you would like to join this group, please be in touch with me and I can tell you more about it.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH GROUPS

OPEN TO ALL WOMEN RESIDENTS OF PELICAN BAY COMMUNITY OUTREACH is our designation for some of the PBWL former Interest Groups whose purpose is to reach outside of Pelican Bay. Their activity positively impacts the greater Naples community and beyond. We’re very happy to have them represent the League in these important ways. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

PB KNEEDLERS Jeannette O'Connor, 594-8179; Lois Sabatino, 598-2369, [email protected]; Hallie Devlin (593-1353) It’s our 10th Anniversary year, beginning in April! The League-supported Pelican Bay Kneedlers, always welcome others to join this creative and satisfying group. If you are accomplished, that's wonderful, but don't worry if you can't knit or crochet. We have patient master craftspeople who love to teach! Just come to the Community Center on Thursdays between 10AM and noon to join this good-natured group who enjoy helping others. We knit, crochet and quilt wheelchair blankets for our Wounded Warriors recuperating in VA hospitals

throughout the country, having given these deserving men and women more than 3,000 so far. While this is

our major patriotic goal, we also make prayer blankets and shawls for nursing homes and hospitalized patients,

and for outpatients undergoing dialysis in Naples. We have fun creating finger puppets and other toys for

needy children and knit and crochet hats, mittens and scarves for youngsters. We recently created these

items for the more than 200 children whose town was leveled by a tornado as winter set in. Chemo patients

appreciate hats we give them, and we make other items as needs arise. One member also knits tiny white

burial sets for babies who die in the hospital.

DONATIONS OF YARN, NEEDLES AND PATTERN BOOKS ARE VERY WELCOME AND NEEDED. The need is great, so please help. We also welcome your handiwork or your friends’ or clubs’ handiwork, mailed to us off season. Please stop in at the Community Center on Thursdays and we will give you directions and instructions for blankets, shawls, and cuddly toys, along with free yarn, needles and other supplies, made possible from PBWL grants and other donations. Please mail your finished off-season creations to Lois Sabatino, 505 Tierra Mar Lane West, Napes 34108. THANK YOU! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

PBWL SPEAKER SERIES, WOMEN MAKING A DIFFERENCE, Nancy Colodny, [email protected].

The PBWL Speaker Series “Women Making a Difference” will conclude its seventh season with Judy Rothman describing her experiences in Viet Nam as a “Donut Dolly”. The season saw an ever increasing and enthusiastic audience who appreciated the efforts of each speaker. Special thanks should be given not only to the presenters, but to Beverly Wernette, the Co-Chair of the series, Cathy Stenza, our President who handled the introductions; Lynn Libman who so ably created the fabulous weekly flyers; Donna Owen who was in charge of the refreshments; Donna Issenmann, whose Ambassadors spread the word; Ann Marie Ahrens, who was our door greeter; Sandy Lane who helped with publicity; Kevin Condon who set the room up for us, complete with coffee and Gwen Rasiwala, our expert techie who helped prevent audio/visual mishaps. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

SONGBIRDS Pat Pollok, [email protected]; Dianne Russell, 325-8749, [email protected]

This season, the Songbirds of Pelican Bay performed concerts at Heritage Health Care, Manor Care, the Care Club of Collier, The Carlisle and Harbor Chase. We also presented a “Thank You Concert” at Chateaumere, which has graciously given us rehearsal space free of charge.

Our final concert of the season will be on April 6, at Juniper Village Memory Care. Songbirds rehearse weekly and sing a variety of songs in two and three part harmony. Rehearsals are held every Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 in the Party Room of the Chateaumere Royale at 6000 Pelican Bay Boulevard. We offer sincere thanks to our new Music Director, Doug Williams, for a wonderful, fun and music filled season, and a look forward to another beginning in November. New member who like to sing are always welcome.

Youth Haven is Southwest Florida’s only 24-hour residential emergency shelter for boys and girls ages 6-17 who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. Children coming to Youth Haven are severely traumatized and in crisis. Youth Haven is an immediate lifeline of safety, love and compassion for innocent children in crisis and first step in a long journey back to trust, confidence and joy. We will tour the campus, see the cottages the children live in and get to meet some of them. The director will give us an overview of the programs and then we'll have lunch in their gathering space.

The PB Kneedlers have generously offered to donate 20 of the dolls that they make for us to bring.

THANK YOU, PB KNEEDLERS!

Ladies, since the tour is only a week away, please call or email Barbara by March 24th,

if you would like to attend and haven't registered yet.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN CARPOOLING PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

To register: Make your check payable to PBWL and mail to: Barbara Wall; 700 Nathan Hale Drive; Naples, FL 34108

Please note “Youth Haven” on your check. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MAH JONGG Arlene Subin, 593-6874, [email protected]; Diane Hahn, 593-4246, [email protected] PBWL MEMBERS ONLY
