services to stop hiv and other blood-borne infections
(hepatitis) from spreading among IDU´s
The service center for hiv-patients was opened in
2000 due to an alarming increase in blood-borne
infections among injection drug users (IDU´s) during
the end of ´90s in the Helsinki capital area the objective of the
services is to enhange the well-being of hiv-positive persons ,and to prevent
the spread of hiv infections

Service center for hiv-positive drug-abusers 247 hiv-positive drug-abusers middle age 45 years 30% women 76 died ( pneumony , trauma , overdose liver cirrhosis,AIDS on 4 patients) all are using drugs intravenously , 35% opiates and 65% amphetamin 65 on maintenance therapy with methadon 136 on antiretrovirus therapy
