    Founded in 1898, Peking University was originally known as the Imperial University of Peking. It was the first national university covering comprehensive disciplines in China, and has been a leading institution of higher education in China since its establishment. In 1912, the university adopted its present name. At the end of the 20th century, the Chinese government put Peking University at the top of its agenda for promoting higher education, with the aim to build a world-class university in the 21st Century. Peking University has continually played the essential role of pioneers in the course of China's modernization. The university's traditional emphasis on patriotism, progress, democracy, and science, together with its educational standards of diligence, precision, factualism, and innovation, have been passed down from generation to generation.

    Embassy/ Consulate prior to arrival in China. Health Insurance: All students are required to be medically insured throughout their entire planned

    period of study. Students must be insured with at least Accidental Injuries and Hospitalization medical coverage. Students who do not have a valid medical insurance/health plan are not allowed to register.

    Students are required to purchase the Comprehensive Insurance Plan of Foreign Students provided by Ping An insurance company on the day of registration, which has been recognized and recommended by the Chinese Ministry of Education.

    Housing Options: On-campus housing at the Shaoyuan Student Dormitory will be available to students

    on the day of registration. But please note that the number of on-campus dorms is limited. Other options are ZhongGuanYuan Global Village (http://www.pkugv.com/) or private accommodation.

    Course Information Recommended Credit Load:

    12 14 credits Maximum = 16 credits

    Credits per course: 2 5 credit per course Transfer of credits: 2 credits = 1 SMU credit

    4 credits will accumulate 2 SMU credits 5 credits will accumulate 2.5 SMU credits IMPORTANT: Law students going to PKU will be allowed to accumulate credits, up to a maximum of 5 SMU credits. On the worksheet you would list the courses as 1 SMU credit unit. Email OGLs Academic Advisor to adjust the credits before confirming courses for credit transfer

    Courses available: Exchange students are ONLY allowed to take courses in Mandarin. No
