HAPPY BIRTHDAY PEG’S!
Today is a very special day at Peg's Creek Primary!
Our amazing school officially turned 40 years old
today!
The day began with a special assembly where we
heard from the founding Principal, Mr Bob Bader, Mr
Peter Martinson a former Deputy Principal, Mr Allan
Dunne a former teacher and Mrs Jenny Courthope-
Scott a former canteen manager.
The special guests recounted some very special
memories of their time at our school.
Mrs Danielle Watson, a former student, opened up
the Time Capsule that was buried in our Play Pod.
The P&C presented every student with a
commemorative medallion.
Mrs Werchon carefully baked and decorated
cupcakes for everyone!
There will be more celebrations tonight at the P&C's
Sundowner from 5-7pm.
THANK YOU
A huge thankyou to our amazing P&C organizing
committee for all they have done to ensure our 40th
Anniversary is a special event in the ongoing history
of Peg’s Creek. Special mention to Mrs Natalie
Richards. Nat has also been working hard to develop
a display of as much memorabilia as she could
access in our Library. Make sure you take a look!
We also look forward to the Twilight Fete on
Saturday from 3.00 – 7.00pm. Make sure you bring
your families along to celebrate what a wonderful
school community we have.

STAFFING UPDATE
It was with great sadness that we farewelled Mrs
Janet Gethin at the end of last term. Janet leaves our
school to take on the position of Pilbara Engagement
Coach. She is very much looking forward to her new
challenge but is sad to leave Peg's Creek. Janet has
taught at Peg's Creek since the beginning of 2011. I
thank her for her ongoing involvement and
contribution in numerus roles within our school such
as: Board, Finance Committee, Curriculum Forum,
Cost Centre Management and English Leader. Janet
will certainly missed amongst the staff, students and
parents, and we all wish her all the very best and look
forward to hearing about her new role.
Sadly we also farewell our Chaplain, Mrs Janette
Cooke. Janette has built some strong relationships
with students, parents and staff and will be missed at
Peg’s Creek. We wish her and her family all the very
best. Her final day will be Friday 27th July.
We welcome Mr Wayne Ritzema to our staff to teach
in TA 11. Wayne has spent the first week at school
completing handover and Induction. He is looking
forward to getting to know his new students.
We also welcome Miss Jacqui Webster to Peg's
Creek. Jacqui has recently been appointed as an
Engagement Coach and will support our school plus
other schools in the Karratha and Karijini Networks.

EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AND LEARNING
LAPATHON
Our Lapathon raised an amazing $1283 this year! So
stay tuned for the painted games we plan to add to
our playground! Thank you to all parents for their
amazing contributions!
YEAR 6 BUSINESS EXPO
This term in business and economics, the Year 6
students have been learning about consumer
choices. With this information students created a
product which they sold to Peg’s Creek students.
The Year 6’s sold these products on Tuesday 24
July during recess. There was a range of different
items, including dream catchers, pet rocks, stress
balls, slime, bracelets, loom bands and oobleck.
Each group created a poster to advertise their
product and catch the eye of their target audience.
All monies raised are going towards the Leavers
Lunch in term 4.
SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM
From next Wednesday 1 August, we are introducing
'Wrap Free Wednesday' which is about reducing the
waste at Peg's Creek. We recently conducted an
experiment, collecting how much package waste
comes from children's lunch boxes at lunch time. We
collected 3 large rubbish bags. We would like to
reduce this by encouraging children to be active
participants by have less packaged waste products
in their lunch boxes and more reusable and
recyclable packages.
BURRUP BOUNCER UPDATE
Our Burrup Bouncers have been busy preparing for
their up coming performances.
On Saturday 4 August they will be performing at
11.00am on the main stage at the annual
FeNaCLING Festival. And on Tuesday 14 August we
see our Burrup Bouncers travel all over Karratha,
visiting schools, on their “Jump Off”.
These events highlight the importance of maintaining
physical fitness and promotes skipping as a part of a
healthy lifestyle. Remember our Burrup Bouncers
are sponsored by The National Heart Foundation.
We are very proud of our Bouncers, who have been
bouncing for 30 years this year. We would also like
to thank Mrs Newton Cearns, Miss Oakley and Miss
Munns for their dedication to prepare the team to the
highest standard.
CHOOSE MATHS Our school has been part of the CHOOSE Maths project for the last two years. Our teachers have been able to have work alongside Jacinta Blencowe who acts in a consultancy role. Jacinta visits our school twice a term and provides valuable support and ongoing advice to be able to raise confidence of our staff in teaching mathematics and to enrich the learning of students. An agreement linked to this partnership is that there is a small element of research which occurs in the Year 5/6 classes. A letter will be sent home with more information shortly.
SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
NAIDOC
Our NAIDOC activities late last term were a huge
success. This Year’s theme, ‘Because of her We
Can” will be an ongoing focus in our school after the
development of the beautiful artwork now located
outside the front office. Every student contributed to
this piece of artwork.
Students were also able to learn about native dance
and hear stories from local elders as they rotated
around a range of different activities. A huge thank
you to the organising committee for ensuring that our
students are given opportunities to learn about the
history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Straight
Islanders.
The free dress day also raised $90 which we will
proudly send to the Women’s Refuge on behalf of our
school community.
PERSISTENCE
Persistence is the ability to stick with something. If
you practice the violin for over a year in order to play
"Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" perfectly, that's
persistence!
Persistence is one of the main keys to success at
Peg's Creek. From Kindy to Year 6, students are
taught about persistence as a lifelong learning tool.
Students around the school will use their persistence
key this term to keep trying in the classroom,
specialist classes and playground.
NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT
Last week there was much excitement as we
christened our new, long awaited playground for our
Year 3 - 6 students and our individual components of
Junior equipment in the Year 1 - 2 playground. A
huge thanks to our amazing P&C for their $35,000
contribution and Karratha Lions for their $10,000
contribution.
This project has taken 2 years of fundraising and
planning, with a total cost of $57,000.00
As you can see the students LOVE it!

OPEN NIGHT
Our annual Open Night will be held on Wednesday 8
August from 5.30-7.00pm.
All classrooms will be open with an opportunity to see
how your children are progressing at school. Open
Night is a time to quickly touch base with staff, but if
you would like to meet for a more informative
conversation, we ask you to make an appointment
through the school. We look forward to seeing you
there!
Peg’s Creek Primary School will be introducing Connect, initially to the Year 5/6 students and families.
Connect is a secure online environment developed by the Department of Education for staff, students and parents in public schools. For you, Connect provides easy access to information relevant to your child’s classes and learning such as class calendars, teacher feedback and attendance data.
Schools can use Connect to keep you updated with important information. Things like up-coming events, excursions, classroom activities and school reports can be sent to you via email or, if you prefer, via a push notification on your phone. This can be done by downloading the Connect Now from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
How do I find out more? Check out the short video clip on Connect at https://vimeo.com/connectwa/welcome

school proud.

ATTENDANCE We are celebrating are attendance rate for Semester
1 which has reached 70% regular attendance. It has
surpassed our Business Plan goal. This achievement
has also been recognised by our Pilbara Education

the school of the reasons for your child being absent
and planning holidays during the term breaks.
