NON-AGRICULTURAL USE REQUIREMENTSThe requirements in this box apply to uses ofthis product that are NOT within the scope ofthe Worker Protection Standard for agriculturalpesticides (40 CFR Par t 170). The WPSapplies when this product is used to produceagricultural plants on farms, forests, nurseries,or greenhouses.

Reentry Statement: Do not enter or allowpeople (or pets) to enter the treated area untilsprays have dried.

1. Spray Drift Management1.1 For Ornamental Turfgrass SitesIt is the responsibility of the applicator to avoidspray drift at the application site. Do not allow theherbicide solution to mist, drip, drift, or splash fromtreated areas onto desirable broadleaf plants, assmall amounts of this product can damage sensitive plants near the treated area. If desirableplants are accidentally sprayed, immediatelyrinsing leaves with water may reduce or eliminateplant damage.

1.2 For Agricultural and Non-Cropland SitesWhen this product is used in “commercial sodproduction,” the following Best ManagementPractices for reducing spray drift apply.

A variety of factors including weather conditions(e.g., wind direction, wind speed, temperature, relative humidity) and method of ground applica-tion can influence pesticide drift. The applicatormust evaluate all factors and make appropriateadjustments when applying this product.

Droplet SizeWhen applying sprays that contain 2,4-D as thesole active ingredient, or when applying spraysthat contain 2,4-D mixed with active ingredientsthat require a Coarse or coarser spray, apply onlyas a Coarse or coarser spray (ASAE standard572) or a volume mean diameter of 385 microns orgreater for spinning atomizer nozzles.

When applying sprays that contain 2,4-D mixedwith other active ingredients that require a Mediumor more fine spray, apply only as a Medium orcoarser spray (ASAE standard 572) or a volumemean diameter of 300 microns or greater for spinning atomizer nozzles.

Wind SpeedDo not apply at wind speeds greater than 15 mph.Only apply this product if the wind direction favorson target deposition and there are not sensitiveareas (including, but not limited to, bodies of water, known habitat for nontarget species, nontarget crops) within 250 feet downwind. Ifapplying a Medium spray, leave one swathunsprayed at the downwind edge of the treatedfield.

Temperature InversionsIf applying at wind speeds less than 3 mph, theapplicator must determine if: a) conditions oftemperature inversion exist, or b) stable atmos-pheric conditions exist at or below nozzle height.Do not make applications into areas of tempera-ture inversions or stable atmospheric conditions.

Susceptible PlantsDo not apply under circumstances where spraydrift may occur to food, forage, or other plantingsthat might be damaged or crops thereof renderedunfit for sale, use or consumption. Susceptiblecrops include, but are not limited to, cotton, okra, flowers, grapes (in growing stage), fruit trees(foliage), soybeans (vegetative stage), ornamen-tals, sunflowers, tomatoes, beans, and othervegetables, or tobacco. Small amounts of spraydrift that might not be visible may injure suscep-tible broadleaf plants.

Other State and Local RequirementsApplicators must follow all state and local pesticidedrift requirements regarding application of 2,4-Dherbicides. Where states have more stringentregulations, they must be observed.

EquipmentAll ground application equipment must be properlymaintained and calibrated using appropriate

carriers or surrogates. Additional requirements forground boom application: Do not apply with anozzle height greater than 4 feet above the cropcanopy.

2. Product DescriptionDesigned for turfgrass applications, non-crop, and IVM (Industrial Vegetation Management)applications, this product contains four activeingredients.

(1) Triclopyr provides broad-spectrum weed controlfor some of the tough broadleaf weeds such as wild violet, ground ivy, oxalis and wild blackberry.

(2) Su l fen t razone causes des icca t ion andyellowing of plant tissue on emerged, suscep-tible weeds. Sulfentrazone is in the aryl tr iazolinone family and inhibits protopor-phyrinogen oxidase (Protox), a pivotal enzymein chlorophyll production. Without this keyenzyme, a build-up of peroxide-like compoundsoccurs, thus causing the plant cell membranesof weeds to rupture. Sulfentrazone providespost emergent weed control for common weedspecies in turfgrass such as spurge and thistlesand suppression of yellow nutsedge.

(3) 2,4-D is an auxin-type herbicide, which is aclass of plant growth regulators. It is absorbedthrough the leaves and is translocated to thegrowing points of the plant, causing weedstems cur l and twis t , leaf cupping and withering, and eventual plant death.

(4) Dicamba is absorbed through the leaves androots and has multiples modes of actions forhard-to-kill broadleaf weeds.

Combining these herbicides provides a very widespectrum of weed control for tough and suscep-tible weeds. FOUNDATION TURF HERBICIDEcontrols weeds by affecting multiple sites withinthe broadleaf weeds. The symptoms of susceptiblebroadleaf weeds include leaf and stem curl ortwisting, and weed yellowing.

These combined herbicides provide l imitedresidual activity.

FOUNDATION TURF HERBICIDE offers theseadvantages:• Excellent postemergent activity with provenperformance.• This product exhibits improved cool-weatherperformance compared to standard “3-wayamines”.• High selectivity (turfgrass safety) in establishedcool-season turfgrass.• Sulfentrazone combinations provide rapid andeffective weed control for common and trouble-some ( tough) weed species in tur fgrass, including: dandelion, spurge and white clover.• The speed of action (rate of weed phytotoxicity)and the early weed symptoms are features ofsulfentrazone combinations compared to stan-dard “3-way amines”. Often, the weed injurysymptoms can be noticed within hours of theapplication and plant death can occur within 10to 14 days.• Triclopyr combinations broaden the weed controlspectrum to include many woody and hard-to-control species.• This product is generally rainfast in as little as 6 hours.

3. Spray Preparation and Tank Mixtures

In certain applications, liquid fertilizer may replacepart of the water.

Mixing with water:Add one-half the required amount of water to thespray tank, then add FOUNDATION TURF HERBICIDE slowly with agitation, and completefilling the tank with water. Mix thoroughly andcontinue agitation while spraying.

When this product is left standing for extendedperiods of time, re-agitate to assure uniformity ofthe spray mixture.

Do not use tank additives that alter the pH of thespray solution below pH 5 or above pH 8. Buffer

the spray solution to alter the pH range as appropriate.

Mixing with liquid fertilizers:Use suitable sources and rates of fertilizer basedupon recommendations of your fertilizer supplier orState Extension Service Specialist.

Verify physical compatibility with a jar test: Alwaysperform a jar test for compatibility before largescale mixing. The jar test can be conducted bymixing all components in a small container inproportionate quantities. If the mixture separatesafter standing and can be mixed readily byshaking, then the mixture can be used and appliedwith spray equipment providing continuous agita-tion. If large flakes, sludge, gels or other precipi-tates form, or if a separate oily layer or oil globulesappear, then the herbicide and the liquid fertilizermust not be prepared as a tank mixture.

Liquid fertilizers are either solutions (true fluids) orsuspensions. Mixing this product with suspensionsor N-P-K solutions may not be satisfactory (maybe marginal) without pre-mixing this product withwater. Premixing this product with 2 parts waterwill ensure that the emulsifiers are activatedenabling the herbicide to be suspended in the fertilizer.

Adjuvants and spray additives:Adjuvants (such as surfactants, spreaders,spreader-stickers, spray thickeners, foamingagents, activators, detergents, and drift reducingagents) combined with this product can damagethe leaf tissue of turfgrass. If any discoloration orcosmetic effects are objectionable or would beunacceptable, then adjuvant(s) combined withFOUNDATION TURF HERBICIDE would not berecommended. Do not use adjuvants and sprayadditive tank-mix combinations, unless your experience indicates that the tank mixture will notresult in turf injury. When an adjuvant is used withthis product, Wilbur-Ellis recommends the use ofan adjuvant certified by the Council of Producersand Distributors of Agrotechnology (CPDA).

4. Ground EquipmentSpray distribution: The accuracy and uniformity ofthe herbicide distribution is the sole responsibilityof the applicator. Power sprayers fitted with a boomor spray wand/gun may be used for broadcastapplications and spot treatments. Boom sprayersequipped with appropriate nozzles, tips, andscreens are suitable for broadcast applications. For best spray distribution and coverage, select aspray volume and delivery system that will ensureaccurate and uniform coverage.

Spray volumes of 10 to 220 gallons per acre withspray pressures adjusted to between 20 to 40 psi.Use higher spray volumes for dense weed popula-tions (up to 220 gallons per acre or 5 gallons per1,000 square feet).• Calibration and proper application are essentialwhen using this product.• Over-application or rates above those specifiedon this label can cause turf injury.• Hand-held technique: Wands fitted with flat fannozzle tips may be used with the appropriatetechnique. Flat fan nozzles should not be wavedin a back-and-forth motion, or in a side-to-sidemotion, or in a swinging arm motion. Instead, thenozzle should be held stationary at the properheight. Side-to-side motion results in unevencoverage.

Hand operated sprayers including backpacksprayers, and compression sprayers are appro-priate for small turfgrass areas.

After using this product, clean sprayer with soap ordetergent and water, or an approved spray tankcleaner and rinse thoroughly before applying otherpesticides.

SPOT TREATMENT:WITH HAND OPERATED SPRAYERS(INCLUDING BACKPACK SPRAYERS ANDPUMP-UP TYPE SPRAYERS):• Apply any time the emerged broadleaf weeds areactively growing.• Calibration and proper application are essentialwhen using this product.• Uniform applications are essential when usingthis product. Over application or rates abovethose specified on this label including excessiveoverlaps of this product can cause turf injury.• Hand-held techniques: Wands fitted with flat fannozzle tips may be used with the appropriatetechnique. Flat fan nozzles should not be wavedin a back-and-forth motion, or in a side-to-sidemotion, or in a swinging arm motion. Instead, thenozzle should be held stationary at the properheight. Side-to-side motion results in unevencoverage.• Follow-up applications as spot treatments arerecommended for more mature weeds, for denseinfestations, and for adverse environmentalconditions. Wait 30 days before making a follow-up application. • For cool-season turfgrass listed in Table 1:Mix 1.2 to 1.5 fl. oz. of this product per 1 gallon ofwater for treatment of approximately 1,000 sq. ft.of turfgrass. Apply any t ime the emergedbroadleaf weeds are susceptible.

8. Cultural TipsIrrigation:• Do not apply this product through any type of irrigation system.• Rainfast in as little as 6 hours. Do not apply thisproduct immediately before rainfall or irrigation.• If possible, do not irrigate or water the turfgrasswithin 6 to 24 hours after application.• If dry conditions exist, a scheduled irrigation orwatering 24 hours before and 24 hours afterapplication is recommended.

Mowing:• For optimum results, delay mowing 2 days beforeand until 2 days after the application of thisproduct.

10. For Use In Non-Cropland: BrushAnd Weed Control

High volume foliar applications (100 to 400 gallons per acre):Apply 0.5 to 2.0 gallons of product per acre withadequate water or apply a 0.5 to 2.0% vol/volspray solution as a full cover spray with highvolume equipment. Use the lower spray concentra-tions in the range for susceptible species and usethe higher spray concentrations within the rangefor hard-to-control species, for mature plantsduring the late summer or under adverse environ-mental conditions (e.g. drought).

Spray broadleaf weeds, woody plants or mixedbrush uniformly and thoroughly by wetting allleaves, stems, bark and root collars. The total

volume of spray solution required for adequatecoverage of solid stands of mixed brush can rangefrom 100 to 400 gallons of spray solution pertreated acre. The spray preparation for applicationson a spray-to-wet basis is shown below in Table 3.
