    Dear Families, May 25, 2011

Welcome to Lakeshores Pee Wee Program!

My name is Angela LoGalbo Foll and I am very excited to join Lakeshore Sport and Fitness as the Pee

Wee Program Director. Prior to working at Lakeshore I taught for five years at Immaculate Conception

School in Chicago. I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor Degree in Education

and hold an Illinois teaching certificate. During my time as a teacher, I coached basketball and cross-

country. In addition, I developed several programs for children including a fine arts program and

    summer camp.

We have many new and exciting changes in place for the summer session. Please take the time to read

through all of the attached information to become familiar with the new policies and programming to

start in the summer. As an overview, the Pee Wee Program is going to provide many opportunities for

growth and learning in accordance with our new philosophy, which is included in our attached Parent

Handbook. Each day will provide an opportunity for learning time. During this time, students will

explore fine art, music, Spanish, drama, dance, as well as literature and math activities to prepare for

kindergarten. The children will also spend time everyday exploring and playing in learning centers.

Finally, students will swim everyday and have outside playtime weather permitting. This approach will

help your child grow and learn in a creative and supportive setting.

I look forward to meeting everyone and getting to know you and your family. I will work with you inany way that I can to make the transition to our program an enjoyable one for your child. I am

dedicated to education and want to help your child develop a lifelong passion for learning.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns about the program.

    Sincerely,

    Angela LoGalbo Foll

    General Information

    Lakeshore Sport and Fitness Facility

Lakeshore Sport and Fitness has over 185,000 square feet of space. The program will utilize the Pee

Wee Classroom which has recently been updated. The room includes new furniture and toys as well as

an inviting corner for circle time and a new imaginative play center. The program will also make use of

the new playground equipment on the roof and the childrens pool upstairs.

    Philosophy

Our philosophy is to provide creative learning experiences for young children. Daily schedules will

provide opportunities for children to explore fine art, music, foreign language skills, gross motor

activities, imaginative play, and literature and math experiences to prepare for kindergarten. Young

children learn in unique ways, which is why we believe in providing a variety of learning opportunities

early on. We believe in the creative process and want children to grow and flourish in that setting. We

believe in helping the child grow as a whole person.

    Discipline Policy

The Pee Wee Program follows a positive reinforcement system. This system allows children to feel

proud of their accomplishments and learn new ways to interact and communicate with others. If a

child needs time away from his or her peers, the child will always be accompanied by a caring staffmember. Children will never be placed in time-out or left alone.

    Special Needs Policy

We will work with you to meet the needs of your child physically, emotionally, intellectually, and

socially within our abilities based on our staffing and resources. We will work with families to make

necessary plans to accommodate your child in our program.

    Classroom Information

    What to Bring

Each child should bring a back-pack that they can carry each day. The back-pack should include a swim

suit, diapers/swim diapers, wipes, and a spare change of clothes. If your child needs a Sippy cup for

snack time, please send one. All items MUST be labeled. Please limit any excess belongings. The Pee

Wee Program is not responsible for lost or misplaced items.

    What to Wear

Children should wear comfortable play clothes. Please pay close attention to the weather, as outdoor

play is included in the daily schedule. Children should wear gym shoes or other comfortable shoes that

are easy to take on and off. Crocs and flip flops are not allowed.

Pee Wee Staff QualificationsAll Pee Wee Program Staff Members are teachers and/or education students or other college and

graduate students with relevant education or recreation experience. The Pee Wee Program is also

fortunate to have access to Lakeshores skilled training and athletic staff including swim instructors,

lifeguards, trainers, and teachers. All staff members must complete Lakeshores Training Program

along with CPR and First Aid Training.

    Toilet Training Policy

The Pee Wee Program will work together with parents during the toilet training process. If you have

any concerns or questions, please alert a member of our staff. Your child should be accident free for

two weeks before wearing regular underwear to our program. Your child also must be able to

articulate to the staff that they need to use the bathroom; otherwise, they should remain in diapers or

    pull-ups while attending the program.

Drop Off and Pick Up Policy

Upon arrival, please sign your name and leave a phone number that you can be reached at during the

day. You should also have appropriate ID with you during drop off and pick up. When you pick up your

child at the end of the day, you must also sign them out.Pick-up will always be in the main classroom.

It is very important that you sign your child in and out each day even if you pick them up early.

We will only release your child to people on the authorized pick-up list. Everyone on the list should be

aware that they will need to present ID for pick-up.

The morning is a very important time for children to develop routines. Please be sure to drop off your

child at our start time so they can take advantage of center time. Additionally, when your child arrives,

please help them hang up their backpack and then allow them to join an activity during center time.

We understand that some children will have difficulty with acclimating to the new environment. Our

staff is prepared and trained for such instances. You are more than welcome to stay and observe while

    they begin center time.

Parents who would like to take advantage of Lakeshores fitness classes that start at 8:45 have the

option of bringing their child to the Playroom for the 15 minute interim. Parents will be responsible forthe costs associated with using the Playroom. A member of the Pee Wee Program staff will pick up

your child from the Playroom so that you will not have to leave your fitness class. Parents will be

required to sign-in their child in the Pee Wee room prior to the start of the fitness class.

    Health

    Snacks

We will offer a variety of snacks each day. Please do not send food with your child. This is for the safety

of all children, in case of food allergies. If your child needs a Sippy cup for drinking, please send one

each day. If your child has special food requirements, please inform the Program Director beforetheir first day in the program.

    Sick Policy

It is the goal of the Pee Wee Program to provide a safe and healthy environment for your child. While

we pride ourselves on adhering to proper hand washing and sanitizing procedures, germs are still

spread. With the help of parents keeping their sick children at home, we can help prevent the spread

of even more germs and illnesses in our program.

When is your child too sick to attend The Pee Wee Program? When they are displaying one of the

    following symptoms:

    Fever

    Diarrhea

    Vomiting

    Undiagnosed rash

    Red eyes with discharge

Nose with colored discharge that requires constant wiping

Cannot participate in daily lessons and activities of the program

If your child develops any of these symptoms during attendance at The Pee Wee Program, you will be

contacted and asked to pick up your child immediately. If you cannot be reached within one hour, we

will call one of the approved contacts. Your child may return to our program when she or he is

symptom free for 24 hours or has received treatment for the appropriate time determined by your

    childs pediatrician.

    Policy on Dispensing Medication

Only medication prescribed by a doctor will be dispensed in our program. It must be signed in and then

locked in the appropriate storage area. All medication must be in its original container with the childs

full name and dosage written on it. A designated member of the staff will dispense the medication at

an agreed upon time. This policy applies to inhalers and Epi Pens as well. Children with severe

allergies will be sent home if their Epi Pen is not brought and signed in each day.

All medicine must be properly signed in on the medication form in order to be dispensed. Failure to

properly sign in medicine will force our staff NOT to dispense the medicine to your child. Please write

your childs name, prescription name, dosage, time to be given, and your signature on the medication

form each day. Please take all medicines home at the end of the day.
