All participants have the opportunity to be a team leader in case-based scenarios of children in shock, respiratory and cardiac arrest. Prerequisites: Prior to attending this course, participants need to have completed: AHA BLS Provider skills. Online PALS Pre-course Self-Assessment. PALS Renewal Course The renewal course is for individuals who have taken PALS previously and incorporate PALS algorithms and ideology in their everyday work practice. Those whose work does not incorporate daily use of PALS algorithms should consider taking the initial course as a renewal.

Objectives Following the program, the participant will be able to:

• Describe the timely recognition and interventions required to prevent respiratory and cardiac arrest in any pediatric patient.

• Describe the systematic approach to pediatric evaluation by using the initial impression, primary and secondary assessments, and diagnostic tests.

• Describe priorities and specific interventions for infants and children with respiratory and/or circulatory emergencies.

• Explain the importance of effective team dynamics during a pediatric resuscitation.

• Describe the key elements of post-resuscitation management.

• Perform high-quality CPR. • Perform effective respiratory management within

your scope of practice. • Select and apply appropriate cardiorespiratory

monitoring. • Select and administer appropriate medications and

electrical therapies when presented with arrhythmia scenario.

• Establish rapid vascular access to administer fluid medications.

• Demonstrate effective communication and team dynamics both as a team member and as a team leader.

This continuing education activity is approved by the American Heart Association, a CSCBEMS accredited organization CECBEMS Provider number: AMHA0013

Course Completion Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a PALS Provider Course Completion Card, which is valid for two years.

Target Audience The PALS Course is for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies involving infants and children. These include personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, paramedics and others who need a PALS course completion card for their job or other requirements.

Course Description Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is a classroom-based, instructor-led course that uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics.
