Students begin with a diagnostic assessment aligned to the competencies of the Texas College & Career Readiness Standards or TSI Standards. Following the initial diagnostic, students are presented with a personalized Learning Path. Proven Remediation and Personalized Instruction Students can get started in MyFoundationsLab by taking a Path Builder diagnostic test, designed to cover the Texas College & Career Readiness Standards or the TSI Math and English competencies.

Based on their Path Builder results, students receive a personal set of content modules, in a format called the Learning Path. Students receive individualized support through topic-level recommendations that continuously adapt based on work they have already done. Students receive targeted instruction and more practice where they need it the most. Instruction is supported with multimedia tutorials, video-based lectures, animations, and multiple practice and apply opportunities followed by mastery-based assessments to ensure students move seamlessly from literal comprehension to critical application, challenging them to use higher-level thinking to apply their skills. The overarching goal is to help all students successfully transition to credit-bearing postsecondary coursework, certificate programs, and the workplace.

MyFoundationsLab for GED® Prep This course empowers test candidates to target their efforts and build requisite skills to successfully pass each of 2014 GED® tests – Reasoning through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Social Studies, and Science – on their first attempt. This solution includes additional support for the new writing requirement of the GED 2014. Student Support Services

Since 1999, no other online tutoring company has partnered with more institutions to help students reach their educational goals than Smarthinking. Smarthinking’s online tutoring services focus on the unique needs of each student. MySkillsLab®

MySkillsLab has been the leading choice for remediation of integrated reading and writing, and schools utilizing MySkillsLab have seen improved results. Students who have used MySkillsLab have seen improved readiness scores measured by a variety of post-tests and have been more likely to pursue credit-bearing coursework upon entering college. It has been used so successfully in a wide variety of formats because it provides a rich and flexible set of course materials – tutorial and assessment tools, as well as textbook and video resources – that can be easily customized. - Reading. MySkillsLab includes up to 26 reading skills across four levels of difficulty; improve comprehension through the Lexile® framework.

- Writing. MySkillsLab develops independent writing skills from sentence-level through essay development. Adaptive Learning & Acceleration in MySkillsLab Students begin each module with a pretest to check their understanding of the learning objectives covered in that module. After the pretest, options for personalized practice and assessment can be used alone or in conjunction with one another: Personalized Learning Path High-level Path Builder diagnostics determine individual student proficiencies at a given level and, more importantly, identify areas for remediation, which are then mapped out in a Learning Path for the student to work through towards mastery.

Adaptive Learning As each student progresses through the course, the MyLab evaluates that student’s results on each assessment and recommends new topics for study. When students work in the Learning Path, MySkillsLab adapts its recommendations based on their most recent performance. If you create assignments, the MyLab has your next assignment in mind and adapts its recommendations to help each student build toward that next assignment. Enhanced Reporting The digital solution offers a flexible and convenient option for implementation and provides real-time, detailed reporting and analytics that allows students, educators, and administrators to easily monitor students’ progress. Content Options in MySkillsLab and in Print The wide variety of author franchises available in MySkillsLab gives instructors the flexibility of choice in pedagogy and content. MySkillsLab is available as a stand-alone solution, and there are also text-specific versions that integrate the text’s resources (eText, exercises, multimedia resources, etc.). Pearson can provide flexible digital and print content to align with the Texas College & Career Readiness Standards and TSI to help prepare high school students for college with a number of different author programs. In Texas, the following Pearson authors are most widely used and have eTexts available within MySkillsLab.

McWhorter Series These texts integrate reading and writing, and are supported by MySkillsLab with text-specific exercises within the Learning Path, which feed into the Gradebook.

Crossroads: Integrated Reading and Writing Dusenberry/Moore’s Crossroads, Second Edition, demonstrates how reading and writing are interrelated processes, weaving them together to prepare students for the critical reading, critical thinking, and writing expectations of college. Recognizing the widely-accepted principle—and growing trend in classroom practice—that strong reading skills beget better writing and vice versa.

The Effective Reader/Writer D.J. Henry’s The Effective Reader/Writer offers a balanced approach to literacy by bringing instruction for reading and writing together in one textbook. Emphasis on reading and writing as processes is embedded in instruction throughout. The reading, writing, and reading/writing processes are introduced and illustrated (utilizing Dorling-Kindersley design) in Unit 1 with two-page full-color graphics that explain and visually represent these processes individually and then show how they work together. Appropriate process icons appear throughout the textbook as signals to guide students through the reading and writing process of particular assignments (in the eText and in the MySkillsLab book-specific module, these icons launch videos and interactive media that help broaden student understanding).

Introductory level (grade 9-10) In Harmony begins with separate overviews of the reading and writing processes and then offers two full chapters on vocabulary. Each chapter becomes progressively more integrated so students consistently combine basic reading skills with sentence level and paragraph level writing. A brief grammar handbook and ESL guide for non-native speakers appear at the back.

Intermediate level (grade 11-12) In Concert correlates to the intermediate developmental reading level and the paragraph to essay developmental writing level. This begins with separate overviews of the reading and writing processes and then each chapter becomes progressively more integrated so students consistently combine reading and writing skills. Adaptive Study Plan Assignments Students are required to earn mastery points for each objective covered in a study plan assignment. Practice exercises with learning aids are available, but students are required to complete an exercise in quiz mode (without learning aids) to earn a mastery point.

The Bittinger author team recognizes that math hasn’t changed, but students—and the way they learn math—have. Bittinger was one of the first authors to emphasize objective-based, guided learning in math, and the author team integrates timely updates to the proven pedagogy with each new edition.
